Volume 12 - Yomi-no-kuni: Chapter 171 - Inside the Room...
âSister Shimizu!â Lily pushed her away gently, backing toward a wooden pillar, her cheeks flushed. âNo one can see us in here, but stillâwhatâs really going on? Shouldnât you explain everything to me?â
Shimizu showed no sign of disappointment. âYou can ask anything, but honestly, I donât fully understand it myself.â
âWhen I was badly hurt, everything went blank. I felt like my soul had left my bodyâand I couldnât tell which body was really mine. Both seemed to be drawing me in. After that, I donât remember much.â
âWhen I woke, the two bodies had fused. Itâs hard to describe, but the body of the Imperial Princess felt⊠innately familiar, like it had always been mine. I canât explain it, but Iâm certainâit was supposed to be mine all along.â
Lily stared at her, puzzled. âYou mean that body was yours from the beginning?â
âYes. I donât know why, but it felt like the Imperial Princess had been using a body that belonged to me.â
âThen who is she really? The Imperial Princess has lived in the Abyss for over a thousand years. How could she have your body? Youâve only remembered your life for less than twenty years, right?â Lily pressed.
Shimizu shook her head. âIf you want specifics, I donât have them. Itâs like a heartbeatâcan you explain why it beats? You just know it does.â As she spoke, Shimizu stepped closer and gently pressed a hand to Lilyâs chest.
âHuh? IâŠâ Lily was at a loss for words. She knew now wasnât the time for such questions, but her mind was blankâand it felt too awkward to push Shimizuâs hand away right then.
âHm?â Shimizu leaned in again, as if to take in Lilyâs scent.
âSister Shimizu, what are youââ
âAh, so this is the scent of a woman.â
Lily blushed and answered with a hint of awkward defiance, âIsnât that obvious? Weâre both women, arenât we?â
âHehe, you know exactly what I mean, Sister,â Shimizu teased, her hand sliding down from Lilyâs chest to her waist and lower abdomen.
âW-what are you doing?â Lily flinched and slipped around to the other side of the pillar.
âNo wonder the Imperial Princess was furious. Iâve told you everything I knowâso isnât it your turn now? Who is it?â Shimizu followed her around the pillar, a dark glint in her eyes.
âWhat do you mean? I donât know what youâre talking aboutâŠâ
âYou look like someone whoâs been through a passionate storm, but you still wonât admit it. Youâre differentâmore mature. Do you think Iâm as easy to fool as you?â Suddenly, Shimizu changed direction around the pillar and intercepted Lily, grabbing her waist and pinning her gently against the wood.
âTell me the truth. Was it Ayaka? Rei? No⊠it doesnât feel like either of them. Then who is it?â Shimizuâs voice trembled slightly, her eyes glistening with anxious tears. âWhat did you do with her?â
âThere isnât anyoneâŠâ Lily murmured, lowering her head, face flushed.
âNo? Do I need to examine you myself? You confessed in front of everyone that you gave yourself to your lover. And now you want to lie to me?â Shimizuâs tone turned uncomfortably intense.
Lily could only respond with guilt. âBut⊠you said you wouldnât mindâŠâ
âThen itâs trueâŠâ Shimizu clutched Lilyâs robe tightly, her gaze dark and uncertain. âBut I still donât know who it is. Who was it really?â
âJust tell her. What are you afraid of?â At that moment, the voice of Rinne echoed gently from the mirror, heard only by her.
âHuh?â Lilyâs eyes widened in surprise. âButâŠâ
âWhat is it? Who are you talking to?â Shimizu glanced around, seeing no one nearby, but Lilyâs voice and demeanor clearly felt off.
Trusting her instincts, Shimizu stepped closer and asked anxiously, âCould it be⊠her?â
Lily wasnât sure how to respond, but she didnât want to go against her senior sisterâs wishes. Embarrassed, she gave a small nod.
A trace of moisture flickered in Shimizuâs eyes. She turned her head aside briefly, then faced Lily again with a soft smile.
âWhere is she? Who is she, really?â
âSister Shimizu, please⊠I need some time. I donât know how to explain it yet.â Lily lowered her head, unable to meet her gaze. âCould I⊠clean up and change first?â Her undergarments were torn, and she was still wrapped in Ayakaâs coat.
âI understand. Go ahead,â Shimizu replied with a calm smile.
Lily quickly stepped into the private washroom connected to the wedding chamber and locked the door behind her. She undressed and used her spirit power to moisten a towel with water. As she began to wipe her body clean of the traces left from the previous night, a strange reluctance tugged at her heart.
âWhat am I even doingâŠ? This is all just an actâshouldnât I be focused on escaping? Why am I so caught up in thisâŠ?â
âLily, come here.â
âHuh? Senior sister?â
âCome in.â
Realizing the call came from the Mirror Dimension, Lily knelt down and sent her consciousness inward. All eight gates of the Mirror Dimension were closedâno one else could enter.
After everything that had happened, Lily finally saw her senior sister again. Though it had only been since that morning, it felt like an eternity. Her heart and soul ached with longing.
âSenior sister!â Lily rushed forward, dropped to her knees, and embraced Rinne around the waist. âIâm sorry⊠truly.â
The woman in white, identical in appearance to Lily but entirely different in presence, gently stroked her hair. âWhy are you apologizing to me?â
âSenior sister, ever since arriving in the Heian Dynasty, I tried to stay pure. I believed I was loyal and untainted⊠but I was so inexperienced. I was captured again and again. Though I kept my body untouched, the humiliation⊠it wore me down. I was mentally weak. Even with my sisters, there were⊠moments. I may have crossed some lines.â
âIâve always claimed that only you hold my heart. But I havenât been strong. Iâve made mistakesâeven if many were out of my control, some were due to my own weakness. Iâm truly⊠ashamed.â
âThatâs enough, Lily. You donât need to explain all that.â Rinne continued to caress her hair. âEven when I was dormant within the mirror, it wasnât because I didnât care. I lacked the soul energy to awakenâbut I saw everything. Youâve shared it with me before.â
âHuhâŠ?â Overwhelmed earlier, Lily hadnât realized. Now that she understood, her face turned even redder. âSenior sister, IâŠâ
âItâs alright. Given everything, I wonât dwell on the past. What matters now is thisâwhat are you going to do?â
âWhen you say now⊠you mean?â
âOh? Youâre really asking that? I see everything you see. Werenât you about to lie down with Sister Shimizu?â Rinne said softly, a faint smile in her eyes.
