Chapter 950: The Strange Wizard Corey

Saul left Gorsa to rest well in the Chaos Realm. Only after completely recovering would he allow him to return to the wizard world with higher magical power and pollution concentrations.

Originally thinking that convincing Gorsa to stay put for several months to a year would be an arduous task, he unexpectedly agreed quite readily.

After leaving the Chaos Realm, Saul prepared to first go find Byron.

Byron’s last letter to the Borderland had been a year ago.

Although the communication frequency was somewhat low, for wizards who often experimented for months at a time, such communication was already quite frequent.

When Byron last wrote, he said he was visiting Corey’s place while learning about the Stargate Council’s recent situation. If there were any new discoveries, he would tell Saul.

But afterward, Byron never sent another letter, and it was unclear whether there were no new discoveries or if something had delayed him.

With his master’s matter settled for now, Saul decided to first go to the northwest corner of Iskaper to ask Corey about it.

Corey’s superior, Aurel, was a wizard who specialized in wood attributes and had harbored deep prejudices against Saul during their last meeting. But now Saul no longer needed to concern himself with this clown.

After traveling for two days, he arrived at the bay city where Corey was located. Before he could even approach, he saw people coming to meet him.

Saul deliberately hadn’t restrained his magical power, so naturally he was detected by the guard wizards.

“I’m here to find Wizard Corey. Is she still here?”

The two wizards who came up were merely first-rank true wizards. Seeing Saul, they nearly fell from the sky.

One wizard seemed to recognize Saul and became somewhat more composed. “Are you Lord Saul from the Borderland?”

After receiving an affirmative answer, the person quickly gave Saul directions. “I’ll take you to see Lady Corey. For these past two years, Lady Corey has been constantly experimenting and rarely goes out.”

Saul nodded, having the other lead the way.

Corey’s laboratory was in the mountain forest beside the bay city, where she could overlook the city while staying away from ordinary people’s bustle. It was a good place to find tranquility amid chaos.

But when Saul prepared to land, he suddenly sensed something strange, causing his landing motion to suddenly stop.

Little Algae emerged from Saul’s nape, sticking its tongue out at the castle standing in the deep forest ahead.

“You noticed the anomaly too?” Saul glanced at the rarely perceptive Little Algae. “Pollution concentration isn’t over the limit, magical power seems stable too. Could it be someone’s mental power having problems?”

The wizard leading the way saw Saul stop moving and was somewhat puzzled, yet didn’t dare say much, just standing on the ground looking up at Saul in mid-air.

“That strange feeling from just now seems to have disappeared again.”

Little Algae nodded vigorously nearby.

“Little Algae, go back first. If you discover anything again, immediately rush over. Let me see if what we discovered is the same target.”

Little Algae obediently returned to Saul’s nape.

Afterward, Saul continued descending, not explaining anything to the accompanying wizard, who naturally didn’t dare ask more questions. Seeing Saul finally land, he quickly said, “Lord Corey is working in the tower on the castle’s west side. Also, Lord Aurel mostly stays in the main castle building at the back.”

“I won’t see Aurel.” Saul waved his hand and walked directly through the castle gate.

The two first-rank wizards didn’t dare follow inside. A third-rank wizard’s territory was very dangerous for them—being able to escort him to the door already took considerable courage.

“Don’t we need to report first?” one wizard asked.

“Do you think our reporting would be faster, or Wizard Saul finding Lord Corey?” the other asked disdainfully.

Now the first had nothing to say.

“So this is a third-rank wizard? Really impressive. His aura feels even more terrifying than the stern Wizard Aurel. I didn’t even dare look directly at him.”

“Do you want to die? Stop talking nonsense and continue patrolling. Wizard Corey has been constantly reminding us to patrol seriously and report any anomalies immediately.”

“Wizard Corey has always seemed very tense these past two years, but clearly nothing special has happened in the city recently.”

“Just listen to orders. Why are you so troublesome?”

The two first-rank wizards gradually moved away, unaware that their conversation had been completely overheard by Saul.

The castle was empty, as if other wizards weren’t allowed to enter—it was just the private territory of two high-rank wizards.

Following the guide wizard’s directions, Saul quickly found the west tower where Corey was located.

“Knock knock knock.”

“Who’s there?” Corey was sitting at her desk writing a letter when the sudden knocking made her very nervous.

“Pardon the intrusion, I’m Saul.”

Corey’s face showed enormous delight. She stood up with a “whoosh,” quickly circled around her desk, and ran toward the door.

She seemed to forget her wizard identity, running hurriedly and stumbling. Her face showed both surprise and relief, as if Saul’s sudden arrival wasn’t abrupt at all but a pleasant surprise.

But as Corey gradually approached the door, that trace of relief on her face suddenly disappeared, and her steps gradually slowed.

By the time she opened the door, her expression had returned to calm.

“Long time no see, Lord Saul. It was truly regrettable that I couldn’t invite you in to sit last time.”

Saul touched his chin. He seemed to have just heard the sound of a body hitting a table corner—such hurried movement was quite different from the composed and calm person before him.

However, there were too many people who became nervous upon seeing Saul now. He didn’t think much of it, just considering it Wizard Corey’s stoic persistence.

Saul entered Corey’s study at her invitation, casually sitting on the sofa prepared for guests.

“It doesn’t matter. I’m here today, aren’t I? The Stargate Council is here and can’t run away anyway.”

Saul first responded to Corey’s earlier pleasantries, then got to the point. “A year ago, my friend Byron should have visited you here, but I haven’t received any letters from him since. Do you know where Byron is now?”

“Byron?” Corey recalled for a moment. “Oh, that very beautiful wizard.”

“I heard he was your friend and originally wanted to invite him to stay here for a while. But after he met Wizard Aurel… he suddenly… took his leave.”

Corey’s voice suddenly became hacked, like a brain freeze.

Saul immediately stared intently at Corey, but strangely, he didn’t detect any anomalies.

It was as if Corey had simply spaced out.

Already beautiful and wearing a court ball gown, Corey looked even more like a doll.

Corey suddenly looked at Saul, frowned, and her pressed-together lips moved as if wanting to say something, but ultimately said nothing.

“Corey, are you alright?”

“I’m fine.” Corey shook her head, and that dazed, interrupted state disappeared again. “I’ve probably been too absorbed in research lately and often space out.”

She showed an extremely faint smile. “Before Wizard Byron left, he said he might go to the Stargate Council. I can help you contact them to see if Wizard Byron is there.”

“Forget it, no need.” Saul didn’t want Byron to be noticed by the Stargate Council, especially since he still had a half-elf in his body. “I just came to check on him.”

Since Byron wasn’t here, Saul didn’t plan to stay long. “Thank you. Since he’s not here, I won’t stay longer.”

“Alright, then goodbye.”

Corey saw Saul to the door, then slowly closed it.

The moment the door was completely shut, Corey’s face suddenly showed a dejected expression.

“Failed to get the message out again.”
