Chapter 905: Black Dog King
He moved straight toward the two-headed black dog, his entire body bathed in the sinister glow of his black flames, a sight like a devil descending from the darkness itself.
And just as Max had suspected, the moment those flames flared fully, the two-headed black dog visibly recoiled. Its dual heads lowered slightly, its snarls more defensive than aggressive. It hesitated, its instincts warning it of the danger it now faced.
A grim smile tugged at Maxâs lips. âSo itâs true⊠my black flames restrain you.â
But suddenlyâ
âRoarâ!â
The sound tore through the abyss like a thunderclap, echoing off every wall, making the ground itself tremble. The two-headed black dog in front of Max raised both heads high and let out a howl so fierce it seemed to shake the very air. It wasnât just a howl of angerâit was a summons, a call to arms.
Almost instantly, the rest of the pack joined in.
âWoof! Woof! Woof!â
The chorus of barks, growls, and howls swept through the Black Dog Abyss like a tide, deafening and oppressive. It wasnât just noiseâit was power, the combined fury of dozens of predators announcing their intent to kill.
Maxâs expression stiffened, his pupils shrinking slightly. Oh no⊠itâs calling reinforcements. His grip tightened around the Blue Dragon Sword, knuckles whitening as realization struck him. The big two-headed black dog wasnât just attacking blindly. It was smartâdangerously smart. Seeing that it couldnât take him down alone, it had chosen to call its kin.
âHateful!â Max spat through clenched teeth, irritation flaring into rage. He crouched slightly, ready to launch forward and break free before the reinforcements arrived. But then, his eyes caught movementâshadows rippling along the stone walls behind him.
A moment later, from deeper in the abyss, they appeared.
Dozens, then hundreds, then thousands of black dogs poured into the narrowing space like a flood of living darkness. Their eyes gleamed faintly with murderous light, their pitch-black coats almost blending with the abyss itself. Each one was larger than an ordinary wolf, muscles taut and jaws snapping, their very presence exuding killing intent.
Among them were over a dozen two-headed black dogs, their power radiating far beyond the others. Maxâs sharp senses quickly gauged themâthese were monsters at the ninth and even tenth levels of Legend Rank. His face turned grim.
âThatâs⊠too many.â
Yet before he could even plan his escape, something happened that made his blood run cold.
All at once, the black dogs stopped. Every single one of them. The sea of canines split down the middle, retreating to either side of the abyss, their claws scraping the rock as they crouched low to the ground. Their postures shifted into one of submission, their heads lowered, forelegs bent. It wasnât a hunting stance. It was reverence.
Even the two-headed black dog that had been leading the chase, its dark eyes filled with cunning moments ago, had now lowered itself, both heads bowing deeply toward the deeper shadows behind it.
âBang⊠bang⊠bangâŠâ
A deep, rhythmic sound shook the ground. Each step was heavy, deliberate, like the beating of a war drum announcing a kingâs arrival. Slowly, from the deepest darkness, a massive shadow emergedâso large it made the already formidable two-headed black dog look small.
It stepped fully into view, and Maxâs breath caught in his throat.
The beast was terrifying. Its body was ten feet long and three times the size of the big two-headed dog. Its fur was a pitch black so deep it seemed to devour light, and each of its two heads was massive, each maw lined with fangs like ivory daggers. Its muscles rippled with every movement, and its eyes glowed with a dark crimson light that sent an instinctive chill down Maxâs spine.
The aura it radiated was suffocatingâheavier and sharper than anything he had felt from the other dogs. This wasnât just a leader. This was the king.
âThe Black Dog KingâŠâ
The words slipped from Maxâs mouth before he could stop them, his voice tight with disbelief.
He had fought countless beasts, including those at the peak of Legend Rank, but this was different. Even though its aura was on par with the peak of Legend Rank, the sheer pressure it exerted felt beyond thatâcloser to the terrifying realm of Mythic Rank beings.
Maxâs heart sank, his mind racing. âIf it were just a dozen peak Legend Rank black dogs, I could still break through with my full strength⊠but thisâŠâ
âMax, this Black Dog King is a mutated one. Its strength has far surpassed others of its kind. If Iâm not mistaken, this beast has subdued all the black dogs in the Black Dog Abyss and rules as their undisputed king. Its strength⊠it has already stepped into the Mythic Rank. You are no match for it.â
Blobâs voice rang solemnly in Maxâs mind, carrying a weight that made Maxâs heart tighten.
âFuckâŠâ Max muttered under his breath, eyes wide in disbelief. He had expected danger coming into this abyss, but not thisâa Mythic Rank monster, intelligent enough to rule and mutated to surpass its kind.
âRoar!â
The Black Dog King lowered its two massive heads, its glossy, obsidian eyes locking directly onto Max. There was no emotion in those eyes, only predatory dominance and chilling intent.
Its roar exploded like thunder, shaking the very earth, the sound carrying not just volume but oppressive force, a sound that made the bones in Maxâs body hum painfully.
Immediately, the thousands of black dogs on either side surged forward, a tide of deathly darkness. The strongest among them, over a dozen two-headed black dogs at the peak of Legend Rank, rushed at the front like living siege weapons. Their maws opened, spitting out thick clouds of black air, each wave like an ocean current trying to drown Max in pure Yin energy.
The air trembled violently, the surrounding rocks cracked and fell apart, and the entire abyss seemed to be collapsing inward. The oppressive momentum slammed into Max like a storm wall. His scalp went numb and his heart pounded like a war drum.
