58 -58: Running Wild Again
Ah Jiu lay on the pile of firewood with his eyes closed, recuperating.
Since that girl had left today, her mother had only brought him food once and hadnât approached the firewood room again.
She hadnât even lingered outside; it was so quiet it seemed as if he was the only person in this house.
As footsteps neared, the door opened from the outside, and his eyes instantly snapped open.
When he saw Wufu, the wariness in his expression eased.
âWhat took you so long?â Ah Jiu struggled to sit up, pulling at his wound, and winced slightly.
âGot held up with something.
Donât worry, your message has been delivered to the bookshop.â Wufu reached out and handed over some pastries.
âHungry, arenât you?
Eat something to fill your stomach first.â
Ah Jiu glanced at the small treats in her hand, took them, and started nibbling.
He was indeed hungry.
âAfter dinner, Iâll take you up the mountain,â said Wufu, raising an eyebrow at his elegant eating manners.
âAlright!â
Wufu was pleased with his cooperative attitude, but just as she was about to say something more, she heard shouting from outside.
Her brows furrowed, and she said, âYou stay here.â
Ah Jiu had clearly heard the noisy sounds too and nodded in agreement.
Wufu quickly stepped out of the firewood room and before she could see what was happening, she heard the sound of porcelain breaking and screams of shock.
Following the sound, she saw that the large water tank in the courtyard had been shattered, water spilling everywhere.
In front of the broken tank stood several peopleâher mother, Madam Lu, and her daughter.
âWhat is this all about?â Wufu asked sternly, her icy gaze fixed on Zhou Xiuer standing behind Madam Lu.
They arrived swiftly.
Was this a game of calling for an adult when they canât win on their own?
Zhou Xiuer shrank back to avoid her stare and hid behind her mother, Madam Lu.
Wufu snorted coldly and strode over in just a few steps.
Seeing the large hole in the water tank, which made it unusable, her face grew even darker.
Their house didnât have a well, and in order to get water, they had to carry it back bucket by bucket from the mountain stream to fill the tank, so this water tank was used for storing water.
Now it had been broken with a stone.
âIâve said before, if you come to make trouble again, youâll end up just like that broken jar.
Have you forgotten?â Wufuâs gaze darkened as she glared at Madam Lu.
Madam Lu shivered under her intense stare, swallowed hard, and attempted to sound calm, âIf it wasnât for your bullying, would I even come here?
Unlucky for me!â
Madam Zhou had already started crying and said, âSister-in-law, letâs talk things out.
Why resort to smashing the water tank with a stone?â What would they do for water?
âTsk!
Smashing the water tank is me being lenient.
Your Wufu, she twisted our Xiuerâs fingers until they turned purple.â Madam Lu dragged her daughter over, showing her hand, âLook at this, see what your daughter has done.
Itâs time we settle this account; how do you want to handle it?â
Madam Zhou looked and indeed saw Ying Meiâs delicate fingers bruised.
She turned to Wufu, wondering what trouble she had caused this time.
Wufu had seen it too; indeed, she was responsible, but what of it?
âAunt, did you ever ask why your precious daughter received such a lesson?â Wufu sneered.
âHer mouth is filthy.
Twisting her fingers was me being gentle.
If it were someone else, theyâd have swollen her mouth for it, which would have been well-deserved.
Want to try?â
She stepped forward menacingly, her face full of ferocity, causing Madam Lu and her daughter to take two steps back in fear.
âYou, youâŠâ Madam Lu pointed at Wufu, unable to say anything definite, and turned to the weak Madam Zhou, shouting, âAlright then, your wings have grown stiff; you donât want to live here anymore.
Go on, pack your bags and get out right now!â
She couldnât believe itâif it came to being thrown out of the family, Zhou Yingmei would still hold up so defiantly!
