Chapter 609: Chapter 608 Tricks Without Technical Content
Zhou Xiuer put on quite a show of authority, but of course, she couldnât fool Wufuâs eyes and ears. Upon hearing her request, Wufu let out a cold laugh.
A bath at this time?
Donât let her fool you to death, she must be plotting something!
"Miss, Li Zi is still waiting outside for instructions, what about the hot water?" Purple Jade asked softly.
Wufu reclined on the divan, holding a book of strange tales from the countryside as she read, and said, "Didnât Li Zi say it herself, the kitchen has already closed for the night; we surely canât go through the trouble of relighting the fire just for her, a guest from outside."
That meant they shouldnât bother with it.
Purple Jade gave a bow and went off to instruct Li Zi.
When Li Zi received the instruction, she went back to Zhou Xiuer and relayed Wufuâs words, which infuriated Zhou Xiuer so much she nearly jumped up and down in anger.
Wufu, judging people with her dogâs eyes!
Zhou Xiuer didnât actually want to take a bath. She was just trying to play the martyr, to make herself sick from the cold, confident that her aunt wouldnât have the heart to send her away.
Unable to get hot water for a bath, Zhou Xiuer clenched her teeth, opened a crack in the window, stripped down to her undergarments, and then sat by the window, exposing herself to the cold breeze.
The winter in Huayang was no joke. In less than one Shichen Chinese Time, Zhou Xiuerâs face turned pale with lips blue from cold, shivering uncontrollably and sneezing repeatedly.
After another Shichen Chinese Time, she felt her head burning hot and finally got dressed with satisfaction. She waited a while before pushing the door open to leave.
It was the end of the Hai Hour at night by then; the mansion was quiet, with only snowflakes dancing in the air.
"Miss, why arenât you sleeping? What are you doing out here?" Li Zi came over from the next room, yawning and wrapped up tightly.
Zhou Xiuerâs teeth chatteringly trembled as she said hoarsely, "I had a nightmare. I want to see my aunt. Lead the way."
Li Zi frowned upon hearing the hoarse voice and looked at Zhou Xiuer.
"Did you hear what I said? I want to see my aunt," Zhou Xiuer scolded.
"Miss, itâs late at night, and Madam has already retired," Li Zi said with a frown, suggesting, "Why donât you return to your room first? I will go and inform Madam?"
"You lowly maid..." Zhou Xiuer staggered, nearly collapsing.
Li Zi hastily reached out to support her, and upon touching her skin, she was shocked at the feverish heat.
"Miss, you are burning up. Please go back to your room, and I will report to Madam right away," Li Zi insisted, not allowing Zhou Xiuer to refuse. With her considerable strength, she half-carried, half-supported Zhou Xiuer back to bed, pulling up the covers over her.
Zhou Xiuerâs teeth kept chattering, "Aunt, I want to see... "
Seeing this, Li Zi didnât dare delay any further and immediately went to report the matter, starting with Wufu, of course.
Wufu had just laid down when she heard Purple Jadeâs words and couldnât help but sneer, "I thought she was up to something, but it turns out sheâs resorting to the âsuffering strategy.â"
Purple Jade was also quite speechless.
"Purple Jade, does she think Iâm soft-hearted? That by feigning illness in my house, Iâll agree to let her stay?" Wufu laughed sarcastically, "Does she think Iâm naĂŻve, or is it her own wishful thinking?"
Children will be children, using such low-level tactics on me, utterly laughable.
"Miss, her real target isnât you but Madam," Purple Jade chuckled lightly.
Wufu snorted lightly and lay back down.
"Arenât you going to see her?" Purple Jade asked, surprised.
Wufu replied, "See what? Is she worth me going over in person to watch her? No matter how sick she gets, it wonât change my decision. First thing tomorrow, Iâll send her away. You go handle her side of things."
Purple Jade bowed, blew out the candle, and withdrew.
