Chapter 616: Chapter 615: Unchanged Tone
In the cold winter night, some found it hard to sleep while others slumbered deeply. The chilly northern wind had howled all night, and as dawn broke faintly, Wufu got up at the appointed time.
Jadeite, who had been on night duty outside, hurried in upon hearing the movement. Seeing Wufu sit up, she said, "Miss, are you getting up now? Itâs still early. Why donât you sleep a bit more? It looks to be colder today."
"No more sleep, fetch some water. I want to go and exercise," Wufu yawned as she reached for her clothes nearby to dress herself.
Jadeite, aware of her routine, quickly left to carry out her task, and shortly after, Hongyu came in with Wufuâs martial arts attire.
By the time Jadeite brought the hot water, Purple Jade also arrived. Using the chance while Wufu was washing her face, she told her about the trouble Zhou Xiuer had caused the night before.
"I just went to see her, and Miss Zhouâs fever has subsided, but her complexion looks pale and unhealthy, and she seems listless," Purple Jade commented.
Wufu dried her face and hands, tossing the handkerchief into the basin with a cold laugh, "If she wants to act up and torment herself to such an extent, how can she not look pale? Isnât that the effect she desired?"
Purple Jade asked, "Should we still prepare the carriage?"
Wufu gave her a sideways glance, "When have I ever changed my mind once Iâve said something?"
"But what about Madam?"
"Thereâs no need to worry about Madam either. However, you will accompany them back today. Make sure you personally escort the siblings back home," said Wufu as she sat at the vanity table, scooping up a dab of cream and rubbing it onto her face. "As for yesterdayâs incident, we must inform the Old Zhou family to prevent them from distorting the truth. You know what to do."
"I understand!" Purple Jade bowed in assent.
Wufu nodded, then added, "Wozi Village isnât too far nor too close. If the road becomes difficult to travel, donât push yourself to return. You can stay overnight in the town or at the Ping Family Hollow estate and come back tomorrow. Safety first."
The estate in Ping Family Hollow was conveniently located between Wozi Village and the county town.
Purple Jade felt warmth in her heart and smiled, "With the carriage, when would the journey be difficult? Donât worry, Miss, I know how to handle things."
"Hmm. You make the decisions yourself. I have enough people to attend to me, so giving you a day off wonât matter," Wufu said.
Purple Jade curtseyed, "I will go and make the arrangements right away."
Wufu nodded, and after a moment, she added, "As for Zhou Xuennian and his wife, I am determined to deal with them. See what the Old Zhou family has to say." She then recounted the story of Zhou Xuennianâs imprisonment, how she had intervened to get him out, and how the Old Zhou family had promised to respond at that time.
"Iâm telling you this so youâre informed and know how to handle the situation, whatever their response may be."
"Donât worry, Miss, I understand," Purple Jade replied.
Only then did Wufu stand up to go to the garden to exercise.
Purple Jade saw her out, then called for Jadeite and Hongyu, giving them careful instructions on what they should do in her absence.
"Miss tends to like the cool, but you canât indulge her. Make sure to add clothing in time and ensure she drinks a bowl of birdâs nest in the morning and evening," Purple Jade whispered.
Jadeite giggled, "Donât worry, Sister Zi Yu, I will make sure to look after Miss well."
Purple Jade laughed reprovingly, "You, girl, just donât go along with Missâs wild ideas, and all will be well."
Hongyu covered her mouth and chuckled while Jadeite stomped her feet, saying, "Iâll go accompany Miss." With that, she ran off like a shot.
Purple Jade shook her head and gave Hongyu a few more instructions, making sure everything was taken care of; she then went to Madam Zhou to convey Wufuâs intentions.
