Chapter 744: Chapter 743: Arrogant Bet
Wufu said she couldnāt play chess, and Ah Jiu regarded this claim with skepticism, but it didnāt take long for him to believe her; she made her moves with extreme speed, yet they were utterly disordered, making it hard for anyone to discern any skill in her gameplay.
However, it was precisely this disorder that disrupted Ah Jiuās original strategy. Watching the chessboard no longer follow his game plan, Ah Jiu frowned deeply, holding a chess piece and taking even longer to think.
"This is boring, Iām not playing anymore." With a ādingā, Wufu tossed the black chess piece she was holding back into the pot, causing a sharp clink.
This sound startled Ah Jiu, who looked up at the young girl who now appeared impatient.
"You can keep playing; I wonāt accompany you any longer!" Wufu waved her hand and walked out of the room with her hands behind her back.
A twitch appeared at the corner of Ah Jiuās mouth. Looking at the chessboard in front of him, he too found it dull and set down the chess piece, following her outābut not without making sure the board remained undisturbed, as he intended to return to it later.
Wufu heard the noise from the deck and couldnāt help walking over to investigate.
She saw quite a crowd standing on the deck: Su Luo, Hoo Die, Bai Xiaobai, and others, and at the forefront, a boatsman was spreading his net with a swing of his arms.
"What is happening here?"
Jadeite greeted her with a bow and said with a smile, "Miss, we are catching fish with a net. The fish in this river are especially fresh and sweet."
"Oh?" Wufuās interest was piqued as she looked on.
People at the front bowed and smiled at her, then greeted Ah Jiu who was following behind her.
"Others are using nets, what about you? Using a fish spear?" Wufu asked Hoo Die, "Can it be done?"
Hoo Die was holding a large fish spear, his eyes fixed intently on the surface of the river. Upon hearing the question, he turned and glared at her, retorting, "I might not, but can you?"
"Of course I can!" Wufu declared.
"What bravado," Hoo Die scoffed.
Wufu narrowed her eyes, "Someone, bring me a fish spear."
"Right away."
Immediately, someone handed Wufu another fish spear, and she looked at Hoo Die, "Shall we compete?"
"How should we do it?"
"Within half an hour, whoever catches more fish wins. As for the wager, one hundred taels."
Such boasting and swagger irritated Hoo Die, but he didnāt have any silver!
Wufu looked at him slantwise, "If you donāt have silver pieces, I can lend them to you."
Damn it, a gentleman can be killed but not humiliated, Hoo Die thought heatedly, "Fine, weāll compete. I, a grand man, am not afraid of a little girl like you!"
"Everybody should bear witness!" Wufu immediately said with a grin, "Feel free to place your bets."
"Iām betting on my miss," Jadeite chuckled, pulling out a silver piece.
Hoo Die looked back at his brothers expectantly.
But one by one, as more people placed bets on Wufuās side, Hoo Dieās face darkened, "Are you guys even my brothers?"
"So be it, Iāll bet on Brother Hoo," finally, a young guard reluctantly placed his bet on Hoo Dieās side.
Hoo Die was pleased and looked at Yuan Ye, Xiao Li, and the others, saying, "Think about it, if we win, weāll divide more silver pieces, and remember, Brother Hooās Kung Fu."
Some thought about it and then placed their bets on Hoo Die as well.
Ah Jiu smiled and also staked one hundred taels on Hoo Dieās side.
"Are you sure?" Wufu raised an eyebrow at him.
Ah Jiu smiled and said, "Canāt help it, heās one of our own; Iāve got to back him up."
Hoo Die immediately beamed, giving him a thumbs-up, "Youāve got the best eye, unlike some people." With that, he glanced at Su Luo and others.
But Ah Jiu added, "Just donāt let me lose all my money, or else..."
Hearing the implied threat, Hoo Dieās smile stiffened, and the corner of his mouth twitched as he huffed and turned his head away.
