Chapter 842: Chapter 841: Great Misfortune Begets Future Blessings
Wufu and Jin Yu walked out of Jin Lanās room and stood at the Beautyās rest in the corridor. She looked at Jin Yuās face, then her gaze fell on his right hand, and she pursed her lips.
Jin Yu noticed her gaze and instinctively hid his bandaged right hand behind his back, forcing a faint smile.
"Are you okay? You donāt look well either. Why donāt you rest a bit more?" Wufu said, looking at his haggard face.
Jin Yu gave a bitter smile and said, "Hearing that my sister is sick, how could I possibly rest easy?"
"But you also need to take care of yourself. Sheās already sick, and if you fall ill, wonāt she worry even more? She wonāt recover so easily, and how will you take care of her then?" Wufu said, pursing her lips. "Her only dependence is on you, her elder brother."
Jin Yu let out a sound of acknowledgment.
Both of them remained silent for a moment.
"Jin Yu, Iām sorry," Wufu suddenly said.
Jin Yu looked over, surprised, "Why are you suddenly apologizing? What did you do to wrong me?"
"This voyage caused heavy losses. All the people around Jin Lan are gone, and your hand..." Wufu pursed her lips.
Jin Yu frowned, his face darkening, and said, "Wufu, these words are too distant. How could this be related to you?"
"Or are you apologizing on behalf of Ninth Master? Thereās no need for that either. This time at sea, no one was at fault; it was simply bad luck. Who can we blame for that?" Jin Yu said, "If anything, I should be grateful to you. I know that when I was rescued, I had no breath or heartbeat. It was you and Ninth Master who snatched me back from King Yama. And my sister and I, even without this experience at sea, if we hadnāt met you, we would likely already be lonely souls on Gobi Beach."
"But your hand..."
"This hand?" Jin Yu raised his hand, pretending to be nonchalant. "Itās nothing. Iām not on the path of the imperial examinations. Iām just a merchantās son. Itās no big deal if my hand is crippled; I wasnāt planning on becoming an official anyway."
A disability would have barred him from official positions, but Jin Yu wasnāt an Imperial Examination Candidate. Losing use of two fingers was at most an inconvenience and a mark of disability, but it was not a major issue.
"You canāt carve anymore!" Wufu shook her head and said, "You have a talent for it, what a pity."
"Thereās nothing to pity. Itās destiny. If Iām destined not to carve anymore, so be it. Itās not how I make a living anyway!" Jin Yu shrugged, as if it were unintentional.
"No. You still have your left hand. If you are willing, you can train your left hand, though it will be more arduous. I hope you donāt give up. Even if it takes ten or twenty years, at worst, consider yourself a baby just learning to hold chopsticks. Start from the beginning again."
"Start from the beginning again?" Jin Yu raised his left hand.
Wufu nodded and said, "Wonāt you not give up, okay? As the saying goes, great misfortunes do not bring death. For every misfortune there is blessing. You survived Gobi Beach, and again this sea voyage. I believe Heaven will surely favor you in the future!"
Jin Yu laughed, "This is the first time Iāve heard you comfort someone this way, Wufu."
"Then..."
"Alright!" Jin Yu nodded and said, "I also want to see if, after all this, Heaven will show me some mercy!"
"I believe in you!" Wufu placed her hand on his arm.
Jin Yu looked at her, "Wufu, thank you."
She had saved his life, and also salvaged his spirit.
