Chapter 1297: Chapter 1295: The Fallen Wall
Madam Wang suddenly vomited blood, frightening Nanny Wei and the others. They screamed, calling for help.
Madam Wang, however, took out her handkerchief to wipe the corner of her mouth and said, trembling, "Nanny Wei, Iâm fine. Quickly, go and ask the elder master to summon an imperial physician to the Marquisâ residence, hurry."
Nanny Wei quickly agreed and stumbled away.
Madam Wang then supported Nanny Chen of her legitimate mother and said, "Nanny Chen, letâs go to Motherâs place."
Upon reaching the legitimate motherâs courtyard, they saw servants running around holding various items. One of them clutched the legitimate motherâs favorite plum vase. Madam Wang shook with anger, shouting, "Presumptuous! What are you carrying? Put them down, all of them."
The servant, seeing Madam Wang, flinched and immediately threw the plum vase to the ground before running away.
Watching the plumb vase shatter into pieces, Madam Wang was overwhelmed with anger but couldnât care about anything else. She tightly grasped Nanny Chenâs hand, saying, "Letâs check on Mother first."
Entering the legitimate motherâs bedroom, a foul smell wafted through. Madam Wang looked over to see the legitimate mother lying on the bed, unconscious, with a mess surrounding her, yet there was no one attending to her nearby.
Madam Wangâs eyes burned and swelled with pain as she called out, "Mother!" Then, she yelled sharply, "Where has everyone gone?"
Although the Old Madam of Marquis Yongan wasnât her birth mother, she had raised her by her side from a young age and had attached her name to hers. Moreover, after adopting her, she brought two legitimate sons to her legitimate mother, who cherished her just like a biological daughter.
Seeing the legitimate mother in such a state with no one attending, Madam Wang felt both heartbroken and distressed.
"Auntie." A maid entered with a copper basin, handkerchiefs, and other items. Upon seeing Madam Wang, her eyes reddened.
Nanny Chen had started cleaning up the mess, and Xi Que, the maid, wrung out the handkerchief to wipe the Old Madamâs face.
Madam Wang also took clothes from the cabinet to change the legitimate motherâs attire, softly calling out. If the legitimate mother werenât still breathing, she would have thought she was gone.
"Where are the family members, the elder master, and the madam? Are they all dead? Do they not know Mother has fainted?" Madam Wang asked angrily.
Nanny Chen wiped her tears aside, saying, "The Imperial Edict arrived suddenly, the house is full of officials, everything is in chaos."
"Hasnât anyone managed it?" Madam Wang asked, suppressing her heartache, "Canât anyone show basic respect?"
Nanny Chen shook her head, "When the wall falls, everyone pushes. Itâs fortunate they havenât insulted the women of the house; the money and belongings, however, canât be saved."
Madam Wang glanced at the chaotic legitimate motherâs room, gritting her teeth in hate, but could do nothing.
"Go get the elder master." Madam Wang wiped the corner of her eyes and said, "Ask him if he doesnât even care about Mother!"
Just as she spoke, she heard a soft moan, turning to see the Old Madam mechanically turning her head. When her eyes met Madam Wangâs, her pupils contracted, uttering a sound as saliva dribbled from her mouth.
Madam Wang cried out in shock, "Mother!"
The Old Madam groaned twice, unable to speak, her mouth twisted, and her eyes rolled back, filled with tears.
The elderly woman, overcome with emotion, couldnât utter a word before fainting again.
"Mother!" Madam Wang shouted, her heart racing, "The physician, why hasnât the physician come, hurry!"
However, no one heard her, or perhaps they did but chose to ignore it. After all, outside was tumultuous, and everyone was exploiting it to gain advantage; who cared if anyone in here lived or died?
