Chapter 1425: Chapter 1363: Scapegoat
Wu Yining returned to the Wu Residence, lost in thought, after leaving Prince Weiâs Manor. As she reached her own courtyard, a young maid came up to greet her.
"Young Miss!"
With a sharp little face, apricot eyes, peach blossom cheeks, and a red mole between her brows â this was the person Wufu and others were looking for, one of Wu Yiningâs second-class maidservants, Xing Er.
"Young Miss, the plan failed." Xing Er spoke anxiously.
Wu Yining shouted with a delicate voice, "Silence! What are you panicking for? Get inside and stay put."
The Commandery Princess was right; this Xing Er couldnât handle things. If she got caught and confessed, what face would be left?
She must be dealt with!
Wu Yiningâs heart sank slightly, but she pulled a smile and said, "Go inside and pack your things. Iâll arrange for you to stay at the estate for a couple of days. Once this matter blows over, Iâll bring you back!"
Xing Erâs heart chilled slightly, her body stiffened, but she was pushed away by Jin Shu.
Watching Xing Er walk away, Wu Yining turned and headed to Madam Wangâs courtyard. She couldnât handle this matter; she needed her motherâs assistance.
Upon hearing Wu Yiningâs words, Madam Wang, filled with anger, slapped her across the face: "I told you not to provoke her, but you just wouldnât listen!"
Wu Yining cried, "I was only trying to win the favor of the Commandery Princess. Who wouldâve thought it would turn out like this..."
"You dare speak!" Madam Wang gritted her teeth, "In trying to win favor, you get yourself into trouble? Are you foolish? Now youâve become the scapegoat!"
Wu Yining pouted, tugging at Madam Wangâs sleeve, "Mother, I was also doing it for the Wu familyâs good. Didnât you also tell me to try to catch the eye of the Princess Consort and the others?"
"But I didnât tell you to be so stupid!" Madam Wang shouted.
"But things have already turned out like this!"
Madam Wang glared at her with hatred. Things had indeed turned this way, just as the Commandery Princess predicted. They had to be dealt with, and the blame had to be shifted onto that maid. Ningning must not be implicated in this matter.
"Nanny Wei, personally escort that maid to the estate!" Madam Wang looked at the wet nurse, a sharp gleam flashing in her eyes, and said meaningfully, "Make sure thereâs no accident!"
Nanny Weiâs heart skipped a beat, and she bowed her head.
"Hurry up and go!"
Nanny Wei could only leave reluctantly, stepping out of the main courtyardâs door. Even under the sun, she felt a chill down her spine.
As the number of lives affected grows, will there be retribution?
After Nanny Wei had left, Madam Wang asked, "Who else knows?"
"Jin Shu knows!" Wu Yining replied timidly, "Mother, Jin Shu is loyal to me. She wonât say anything!"
"Remember, this matter was entirely that maidâs decision. She acted because Wufu slapped you twice, and she wanted to defend you. You know nothing about it, understand?" Madam Wang said coldly.
Wu Yiningâs heart quivered slightly, and she nodded weakly.
"That maid even has such a righteous brother. Now even the Crown Prince is backing them!" Madam Wang increasingly found Wufu hard to deal with and couldnât help but feel a strong jealousy. She said, "Iâll say it once more, do not provoke her again; otherwise, next time, I wonât be able to cover for you!"
Wu Yining answered with a hum.
"Donât go out these next few days, stay in the courtyard; weâll talk once this buzz dies down," Madam Wang instructed.
Wu Yining agreed, and upon returning to her own courtyard, she learned that Xing Er had already been escorted away by Nanny Wei. She stood there for a moment before going inside.
Shortly after, sharp screams and the sound of porcelain shattering came from within.
In another boudoir, Wu Yilin heard about this incident and squinted her eyes: "It seems this illegitimate sister is even more formidable than I imagined! To have so many supporters!"
