âThe reason we were able to infiltrate Dragon Horse Planet Seventy-Six and Celestial Dragon Planet was because I have a shapeshifting ability that allows me to take on various forms and conceal my aura. Once we arrived on Celestial Dragon Planet and began collecting information, I started thinking about how to help the Federation recover its lossesâat the very least, to avoid a war. So, we made a trip to Celestial Dragon City, the capital of Celestial Dragon Planet. I took the remaining liquid that we had brought from Planet Seventy-Six and poured it out in Celestial Dragon City. That liquid continuously evaporates and can't be stored in any containerâit would disappear sooner or later. But once released, it emits strong spatial fluctuations unique to that liquid. Then, we ran back. Celestial Dragon City is in a bit of chaos now.â
Yan Xinghe listened to Lan Xuanyuâs account in stunned silence before asking in shock, âYou mean⊠you framed Celestial Dragon Planet for the explosion on Planet Seventy-Six?â
Lan Xuanyu nodded. âTheoretically speaking, yes.â
Yan Xinghe said, âWhy didnât you send the sample back immediately?â
Lan Xuanyu gave a bitter smile. âThere was no time, Captain. The Spaceborne Clan was chasing us from behind, obviously heading toward our fleet. If I had fled in this direction, they would have caught us for sure. I had to take a detour. But by the time I returned, the liquid would have evaporated. So, instead of letting it go to waste, I used it. And now, as you see, the Spaceborne Clan fleet is goneâmost likely off to seek justice in Celestial Dragon City.â
His explanation was nine parts truth and one part fabricationâenough to be believable. Even if they searched his storage soul device, he wasnât worried. The "Space Worm" wasnât in the storage device at all. In fact, there wasnât even an insideâthanks to the Treasure Seeking Beast, concealing things was all too easy.
Yan Xingheâs expression changed slightly. âThis is a very important piece of information. I need to report it immediately. Is there any other significant intel?â
Lan Xuanyu shook his head. âNo other major information. But I did bring back some items from Celestial Dragon Planet that I plan to hand over as a way to make up for my mistakes. Would you like to see them now or later?â
âIâll report this first. Wait here.â With that, Yan Xinghe quickly left. He knew full well the significance of Lan Xuanyuâs tactic of redirecting the blameâif successful, it could mean everything to the Federation. There was a lot of maneuvering to be done, including how to leverage this opportunity, which was entirely different from before.
Lan Xuanyu waited two full hours. When Yan Xinghe returned, Lan Xuanyu had fallen asleep on the desk.
Knock knock knock!
The vibration on the desk woke Lan Xuanyu. He groggily looked up at Yan Xinghe standing in front of him. âCaptain, how did it go?â
Yan Xinghe had a smile on his face again. âPretty well. This information is of great value to the Federation. A few days ago, during negotiations with the mother planet, Tianlong suddenly leftâwe didnât know why. Now we do. Currently, Tianma is handling the negotiations alone. This gives us more leverage and time. The internal strife on Celestial Dragon Planet has created more opportunities for us. The fleet has already received orders to continue seizing resources. Your actions earned us ten extra days. The commander has already filed for a merit-based pardon on your behalf. Though you werenât officially punished, your record still carries a blemish. Hopefully, this achievement can offset that.â
Lan Xuanyu let out a breath of relief. The Federation had no shortage of strategistsâpeople much more capable than him. It was now their job to figure out how to maximize the benefits from this situation.
âNow, show me what you brought back.â
Lan Xuanyu raised his hand, and one book after another emerged from the Ring of Fate, landing on the desk in a growing pile.
âThese were all purchased from bookstores on Celestial Dragon Planet. Mostly history, biography, and geography booksâinformation about Celestial Steeds, Celestial Dragons, and other planets and races within the Dragon Horse Galaxy. They should help us better understand the region.â
Seeing the books, Yan Xinghe was dumbfounded. His first reaction: So Celestial Dragon Planet was using paper, and still recordedb information this way. The Douluo Federation mostly relied on advanced soul guidance technology nowâpaper books were very rare.
There was no doubt that this wealth of written material had extraordinary value for the Federation in understanding not just Celestial Dragon Planet, but the entire Dragon Horse Galaxy.
The war between the Douluo Federation and the Dragon Horse Galaxy was bound to continueânot just militarily, but also in other forms. Pure combat couldnât solve everything. There would be a battle of wits and strategy, and whoever came out on top in that arena would likely win overall dominance of both galaxies.
The Federation, in particular, had a pressing need for the Dragon Horse Galaxyâs resources. Technological progress was fast, but resources were lagging behind. On the other hand, the Dragon Horse Galaxy just needed to hold their ground. With their advantage in resources, time was on their side.
Despite the Federationâs continuous efforts to gather intelâespecially through the criminal planetâthe results were limited. After all, the Dragon Horse Galaxy was more powerful overall, and most interstellar smugglers dared not leak any information.
Tianlong and Tianma had long issued a joint declaration: any organization or individual that leaked information about the Dragon Horse Galaxy would be considered a mortal enemy.
Even though they didnât yet know the full content of Lan Xuanyuâs findings, the value was already apparent from his explanation.
These items might not be resources, but they were far more important than resources.
âExcellent. If this material proves useful, it will be a major contribution. But what Iâm more curious about is how you managed to enter Celestial Dragon Planet and acquire all of this. Thatâs a question both I and the military will ask. After all, the origin of these materials is as important as their value.â
Lan Xuanyu nodded slightly in understanding. âCaptain, I have a soul spirit. It has no offensive power, but its shapeshifting ability rivals that of a god-level being. I acquired it accidentally on Senluo Planet. If you need proof, the King of Soul Beasts thereâthe Titan Giant Apeâcan vouch for me. What youâre about to see now is its power.â
As he spoke, a faint light flashed over Lan Xuanyu, and his entire form transformedâtaking on the appearance of a Blue Sea Clan member.
Yan Xinghe, a powerful soul master himself, was astonished. Not only did Lan Xuanyu change his appearance, but his aura changed as well. In an instant, it was as if Lan Xuanyu had completely vanished, replaced by a totally ordinary Blue Sea Clan member with the energy of a mere three-ring soul master.
In the next moment, Lan Xuanyu transformed again. Spatial elements stirred around him as he shifted into a Spaceborne Clan memberâan elite one at thatâradiating god-level energy. Yan Xinghe was stunned once more.
