Chapter 23: Slaying the Crocodile Demon

Wei Fan wasn’t just standing around watching the show—the E Shen Bang had too many people. If he didn’t step in, these officers were doomed.

Besides, even a mosquito’s meat counts. Slaughtering one could power harvest a few months—better than nothing.

He set foot into Flowing Cloud Chasing Wind Step, his body leaving afterimages everywhere—each time an afterimage flashed, someone was killed by him.

In just a few breaths, seven or eight souls were sent to the underworld by his blade.

And that was because he was keeping an eye on Hu Qing, who’d charged first. Otherwise, using a Sword Gang move, one sweep and they’d all be dead.

"They’re really killing us!"

"I surrender!"

"Didn’t they say no way the government office would really kill people?"

Now, the remaining few suddenly realized what was happening—fear took over. Word was, the officers wouldn’t dare actually kill anyone.

This wasn’t "won’t dare"—they were going savage with the killing.

"Drop the knife! You drop the knife, you live!"

Wei Fan roared, True Qi surging within his voice, shaking their minds blank—they couldn’t even remember to surrender.

By the time they got ahold of themselves, only two or three were left alive.

"Stop!"

A thunderous bellow roared out, loud as a tiger’s roar.

"A real expert is here!"

Hu Qing’s face changed; she quickly spun towards the voice. A figure flashed forward—while charging, he unleashed a blast of Sword Qi.

Wei Fan stayed cool. One blade carved down the last man; only then did he turn, swinging his saber to shatter the oncoming Sword Qi.

"True Qi Seventh Layer!"

Being able to release Sword Qi meant he was at True Qi Seventh Layer—with his True Qi emitting power.

"Attacking government officers—you’re basically begging for death."

Wei Fan’s figure flickered. Before his opponent could react, he stabbed clean through the guy’s chest with a single slash.

He’d killed True Realm Great Demons before. Martial Artists at True Qi Seventh Layer were no different than First Layer fodder to him.

"You dare kill me? My uncle’s the Clerk..."

Lu Mingjie’s body froze. He looked down at the blade skewering his chest, disbelief plain in his eyes.

Didn’t the East District officers know about his connection to the Clerk?

"Your uncle’s the Clerk? Why the hell didn’t you mention that sooner?"

Wei Fan yanked out the blade, booting Lu Mingjie onto his back.

[Lu Mingjie slain. Power harvested: Seven Years!]

Pathetic.

What the hell am I supposed to do with that tiny bit of power?

"He actually one-shotted Lu Mingjie, who’s True Qi Seventh Layer!"

Hu Qing had been paralyzed with shock for ages.

In a delayed flash of realization, she saw that maybe Wei Fan didn’t have some master pulling strings behind him—the master was him.

Sure, he killed Zhang Huaiyu from the Fierce Tiger Gang with one slash, too, but that was a sneak attack—he’d struck just as Zhang was about to surrender.

This time was different. It was head-on. She saw the whole process, clear as day.

"Lu Mingjie’s dead—all of E Shen Bang is wiped out!"

Luo Wen, who’d rushed here out of worry, saw Lu Mingjie get killed and nearly blacked out on the spot.

He knew Wei Fan was ruthless, but he never dreamed he’d kill Lu Mingjie too. Getting Zhou Qi and the others thrashed was one thing—did they really need to completely piss off the Clerk?

He hadn’t realized Wei Fan never even gave Lu Mingjie a chance to reveal his identity—the moment Lu showed up, Wei Fan went straight for the kill.

Other people killing Lu Mingjie would just bring trouble. Wei Fan killing him? Power harvest.

So long as you colluded with demons, Wei Fan would cut you down without a flicker of hesitation.

"Wei Fan, you’re just lawless!"

Luo Wen shouted—this time, for real, he was angry.

Lu Mingjie dead, Clerk bound to go berserk. As squad leader, Luo Wen would be dragged into it—besides, the Clerk had already told him to mind Lu Mingjie’s business.

"Bastard, do I have to drag you out myself?"

Luo Wen’s roaring got nothing out of Wei Fan. He just gripped his blade, staring at a certain room in the courtyard.

Boom—the room exploded. Out strode a hulking, bald brute, muscles bulging. Black Qi oozed out of him, and his hands and feet were freakishly big and equally thick, way out of proportion.

"You could spot me from that far away?"

"All I had to do was catch a whiff of that dead rat stink on you."

In Wei Fan’s eyes, his status panel flickered:

[Crocodile Demon: Ninth Grade of the Initial Realm. Shapeshifted into human form. Eats people.]

[Kill it. Power harvest: Thirty Years!]

A demon fiend that could mimic a human!

Hu Qing and the others instantly changed expressions, going into full alert. Even Luo Wen forgot about Lu Mingjie’s death, face draining in horror.

In Yun City, lots of gangs colluded with demon fiends, but almost none dared bring them into the city.

If discovered, the whole city would panic—the City Lord wouldn’t even be able to play dead.

A regular demon fiend wouldn’t dare enter either. If exposed, they’d be facing the Demon Suppression Bureau, not some rando officers.

Any demon fiend bold enough to invade a human city—Demon Suppression Bureau always brought bloody iron-fisted justice.

"Lu Family’s finished. Hell, even the Clerk might get dragged down!"

Years in government—Luo Wen knew what happened when demon fiends invaded. If any of them survived today, the City Lord’s people would hunt them down.

If the City Lord wanted to keep his job, he’d be forced to act.

Doesn’t matter how corrupt things are—they had to maintain appearances.

The Crocodile Demon licked blood-red lips with his tongue, eyes on Wei Fan. "Pretty good cultivation. If I eat you, and them, I could become a True Realm Great Demon."

As he spoke, he bent down, snatched up an amputated arm, and bit into it heartily. Everyone recoiled, trying not to puke.

Luo Wen yelled, "Damn demon fiend! You dare cause trouble in Yun City? Aren’t you scared the Demon Suppression Bureau will nail you?"

The Crocodile Demon showed no fear. "If I eat all of you, nobody will know I was ever here. Was planning to sneak-eat a few victims, but you idiots showed up to die right on schedule."

He hadn’t planned to expose himself either—who would’ve guessed someone daring enough to come here and kill the East District Clerk’s wife and nephew?

Luo Wen’s face changed. He hadn’t brought any real experts—being squad leader was a desk job. Sure, he secretly trained in Martial Arts, but he was only True Qi Third Layer.

This demon’s going for a cleanup—zero witnesses.

Wei Fan said, "That all your bullshitting done? Good. Get ready for me to power harvest!"

As he spoke, he exploded True Qi beneath his feet, his whole body turning into a streak of light rushing the Crocodile Demon.

Before he even arrived, a ferocious wind gusted so hard it made the Crocodile Demon’s clothes snap like flags. The demon’s face shifted. He tossed aside his snack in a panic.

His five fingers stretched longer, razor-sharp claws sprouting. Pieces of scale armor surfaced on his limbs, spreading across his body.

Scared shitless—first thing he did was reveal his monster form.

"Sword Gang?"

"Celestial Spirit Burning Blood Saber, perfected?!"

Luo Wen and Hu Qing blurted out in shock, voices cracking at the same time.

A blade gang, two to three meters long, bristling with killing intent—momentum like a battering ram—split through the demon qi instantly, exposing the Crocodile Demon, transformation half-complete.

The Crocodile Demon was terrified. He threw his arms up to block, but in the blink of an eye, scales and all, both arms split, blue smoke curling out.

Didn’t even have time to scream—his horrified face froze in shock. His half-changed crocodile head shot off in a bloody arc.

Everyone was stunned. The demon lurking behind E Shen Bang, who’d been bragging about eating them all just moments ago, was butchered by Wei Fan in a single stroke.

His monster body crumbled like wet paper in front of the blade gang forged by the Celestial Spirit Burning Blood Saber.

"Lu Family brought this piece of garbage in and thought they could run wild in the East District?"

Wei Fan calmly stepped and squashed the Crocodile Demon’s head into pulp.

Not even a True Realm Great Demon, and it dared stir shit up in the East District?
