Jamie â Drifting Between Light and Darkness
The world felt weightless.
Jamie floated in a void between consciousness and oblivion, her body suspended in a dreamlike haze. Voices echoed around herâdistant, muffled, like whispers carried by the wind.
ââŠher vitals are stabilizing.â
ââŠbut she lost a lot of blood.â
ââŠwe need to keep monitoring her.â
Pain anchored her back to reality. A sharp, burning sensation spread across her chest, forcing a weak gasp from her lips.
Then, a hand gripped hersâfirm, warm. A voice broke through the haze.
âJamie⊠itâs me, Ryan. If you can hear me, squeeze my hand.â
She tried. It was barely a twitch, but it was enough.
Ryanâs relieved laugh mixed with a choked sob. âYouâre still with us.â
Her eyes fluttered open. The bright hospital lights forced her to blink, and the sterile scent of antiseptics filled her lungs. Slowly, Jamie turned her head. Ryan was there, his face pale and exhausted, his eyes red from sleepless nights.
Beyond him, David Lancaster stood near the window, his back straight, his expression unreadable. And sitting across the room, arms crossed, was Solomon Kane, watching her like a hawk.
She was alive.
But something in the air felt⊠off.

The World Reacts
The Battle of the USS Liberty had been broadcast globally. The images of towering Grey Hound mechs rampaging through the fleet, the last desperate defense, and finally, Jamie Lancaster being shot by Victoria Langley had become the most replayed footage in modern history.
In Washington, the White House was in damage control. While the public celebrated Victoriaâs presumed death, high-ranking officials worried about what her attack meant. The fact that a rogue military faction had fielded mechs so soon after the Antarctica War was deeply unsettling.
News networks debated endlessly.
âFirst, the Elven War in Antarctica⊠now a mech attack on a US carrier. Are we entering a new age of warfare?â
âWho authorized the creation of these Grey Hounds? Was Victoria really working alone?â
âAnd most importantlyâwhat happens now?â
But one topic stood out above the rest.
Jamie Lancaster.
The girl who stood against both the elves and human warlords.
The girl who nearly died stopping Victoria Langley.
Some called her a hero. Others, a symbol of reckless military escalation. But no matter which side they took, one thing was clearâJamie had become the face of the worldâs future.
And Henry Lancaster knew it.

Henry Lancaster â Crafting the Saviourâs Image
Inside a high-security bunker beneath Lancaster Tower, Henry Lancaster studied the political landscape unfolding before him. Around him, his most trusted advisors and intelligence officers provided updates.
David Lancaster stood at his side, arms crossed. âThey want to take her.â
Henry barely looked up. âOf course they do.â
âThe US government sees Jamie as an asset. Theyâll try to recruit her or, worse, put her under permanent surveillance.â
âThey wonât get the chance,â Henry said firmly.
One of the intelligence officers cleared his throat. âSir, we intercepted discussions from multiple agencies. The Pentagon is split. Some believe she should be honored, while others want her to be controlled. They fear she could become a dangerous figure if left unchecked.â
Henry smirked. âThatâs exactly why weâll move first.â
David frowned. âYouâre going to use her?â
âIâm going to protect her.â
David exhaled, pinching the bridge of his nose. âYouâre making her the symbol of humanityâs resilience.â
âIâm giving her an identity that no government would dare touch.â
Henry tapped a control panel. A massive screen lit up, displaying a press release draft. The headline read:
âJamie Lancaster: The Saviour of Humanityâ
âShe doesnât just represent the victory over Victoria,â Henry continued. âShe represents the people who fought against the elves. The people who bled for this worldâs survival. The moment she wakes up, she wonât just be my granddaughterâsheâll be the hope of an entire generation.â
David clenched his jaw. âAnd if she doesnât want that?â
Henryâs expression softened, just for a moment. âThen Iâll protect her another way.â
Solomon Kane, who had been silent until now, chuckled. âSmart move, old man. Make her untouchable.â
Henry nodded. âExactly.â

Jamie â Awakening to a New Reality
A few days later, Jamie sat up in her hospital bed, wincing as pain flared through her chest. Her body was still recovering, but her mind was sharp.
Ryan sat beside her, helping her adjust her pillows. âHow are you feeling?â
âLike I got shot in the chest,â she muttered.
Ryan laughed softly. âWell⊠you did.â
She looked around. The hospital suite was luxuriousâfar too extravagant for a normal recovery room. That only meant one thing.
âMy grandfatherâs pulling something, isnât he?â
Ryan hesitated. âHeâs⊠protecting you.â
Jamie narrowed her eyes. âRyan.â
He sighed, rubbing his neck. âThe world saw what happened. Youâre everywhere. The news, social media⊠Theyâre calling you the Saviour of Humanity.â
Jamieâs stomach twisted. âWhat?â
Ryan nodded. âHenryâs making sure no one can touch you. The government canât turn you into a pawn if the people already see you as a hero.â
Jamie exhaled, staring at the ceiling. She never asked for this. She never wanted to be some grand symbol.
But after everything sheâd fought forâafter nearly dying to stop Victoria Langleyâdid she have a choice?
She clenched her fists.
No.
She didnât.
If she let others decide her fate, sheâd just be another tool in a war she had no control over.
But if she played this rightâŠ
She could control her own future.
Her grandfather wasnât the only one who knew how to play the game.
She looked at Ryan. âFine. If the world thinks Iâm their saviour⊠letâs make sure I actually am.â
Ryan blinked in surprise, then grinned. âYou really are a Lancaster.â
Jamie smirked. âDamn right I am.â
And with that, she embraced the path before her.
The path of humanityâs chosen defender.
The war wasnât over.
And she had a role to play.

Reunion
Ryan cleared his throat, softening his tone. âBeth and Sophia have been handling things while you were out. Theyâre giving interviews on different news channels, telling your story and making sure the world sees you in a positive light.â
Jamie blinked. âWait⊠Beth and Sophia? Doing interviews?â
Ryan grinned. âI know, right? Bethâs been handling it like a pro, and Sophiaâs been making sure no one twists your story. Honestly, theyâre doing a damn good job.â
Jamie shook her head, half amused, half impressed.
Ryan continued. âAnd Carlosâheâs here in the States now. Admiral Henry brought him over, gave him a job. Heâs working directly under him now.â
Jamieâs eyes widened. âSeriously?â
Ryan nodded. âYeah. His kids are finally getting a proper education, and his family has access to real healthcare. Heâs happy, Jamie. After everything heâs been through, he finally has a shot at a better life.â
A warmth spread through Jamieâs chestânot just from relief, but from something deeper. The people she fought for, the ones who stood by her, were safe.
As Ryan continued talking about everything that had happened while she was in a coma, the door suddenly swung open.
Beth stormed in, her face red with emotion, and before Jamie could react, she was pulled into a tight hug.
âYou idiot,â Beth whispered, her voice trembling. âYou scared the hell out of us.â
Jamie felt a lump in her throat but managed a weak smile. âMissed you too, Beth.â
Behind her, Sophia stood at the doorway, watching with a soft smile. âShe wouldnât stop pacing. I told her youâd wake up soon.â
Jamie smirked. âGuess you were right.â
Sophia chuckled and stepped forward, greeting Ryan with a nod. âLooks like the gangâs back together.â
Jamie glanced around the roomâat Bethâs teary eyes, at Sophiaâs calm reassurance, at Ryanâs relieved expression.
For the first time in a long while, she felt like she was home.
