Hunted in the Streets
Jamie Lancaster after being held captive by the elves and going from one hand to another had promised herself to never run from a fight again, but as she slipped into the back seat of a blacked-out SUV, she knew that survival now meant evasion. The once-celebrated military genius, hailed as a visionary, was now branded as a pariah. The coordinated smear campaign had taken full effect, and the streets were no longer safe for her.
She had already been forced to
abandon two safe houses
in the past forty-eight hours.
Mobs had gathered outside
âsome were
angry citizens
, fueled by media-fed propaganda; others were
planted operatives
, trained to blend in and
escalate protests into riots
. And in every crowd, there were
assassins
waiting for their moment.
As the SUV sped through the narrow streets, she glanced at Solomon, who was gripping his sidearm, scanning every shadow with lethal precision.
They werenât just running from public outrageâthey were being hunted.
âNext location is compromised,â
their driver said through the radio.
âNew hideoutâs been secured, but we have to move now. The last one almost got breached.â
Jamie clenched her fists.
They were running out of places to hide.
A Guardâs Loyalty
Inside the Green Guardian cockpit,
Flight Lieutenant Arjun Rathore
was stationed near the safe house perimeter, watching the chaotic streets through his mechâs augmented vision. He had always admired Jamie Lancasterâfrom her fearless advancements in mechanized warfare to her refusal to be controlled by corrupt powers. But now, seeing
how she was being betrayed
, he felt a deep sense of injustice.
His radio crackled.
âLieutenant, youâre being reassigned. Lancasterâs security team is rotating personnel.â
His orders were clear.
Step back. Stop guarding her. Let the government handle it.
But Arjun made his decision the moment he saw the
hatred in the eyes of the crowd
, the way
agents disguised as civilians tried to push toward the safe house
, how
Jamie and Solomon were forced to flee like criminals
. He couldnât follow orders.
He needed help.
And there was only one man who could provide it.
An Appeal to Power
Colonel Vikram Rathore
of the Indian Army was a man of
pragmatism and strategy
, not emotions. When Arjun burst into his office unannounced, the Colonel
did not look up immediately
. He simply finished reading his document, set it aside, and then locked eyes with his cousin.
âYou broke protocol coming here, Arjun,â
Vikram said, voice calm but firm.
âWhat is so urgent that you risk your career?â
Arjun took a deep breath.
âItâs about Jamie Lancaster.â
A flicker of recognition passed through the Colonelâs eyes, but he remained impassive.
âShe is no longer our concern. She is compromised.â
âThatâs a lie!â
Arjun shot back.
âEverything theyâre saying about her is fabricated. Itâs a coordinated attack by China, Russia, and Iran. Theyâre trying to erase her!â
Vikram raised an eyebrow.
âAnd why does that concern us?â
Arjun stepped forward.
âBecause she is a hero. You donât see what Iâve seen, Vikram. She fights not for personal power but for something bigger. Iâve been guarding her, Iâve seen how she never panicked, never waveredâeven when the world turned against her.â
Vikram sighed.
âArjunââ
âAnd then thereâs Solomon Kane.â
Arjun interrupted.âHeâs a monster, Vikram. Not in a bad way, but in the way a warrior should be.
The man is a natural predator in battle, a genius in the cockpit.
You put him in a mech, and he moves like he was born inside one. Heâs someone we want on our side, not against us.â
That finally made Vikram pause.
The best soldiers respected power. And Solomon Kane, from what little he had seen, was raw power.
Arjun continued, voice lower now, but
deadly serious
.
âAnd then thereâs Henry Lancaster.â
The weight of the name alone sent a ripple of tension through the room.
âA man who controls fleets, commands respect from the highest military brass in the United States. Do you think the world will remain the same after this? No. War is coming, Vikram. A real war. And when it does, having Jamie Lancaster as a friend is a hell of a lot better than having her as an enemy.â
Silence stretched between them.
Finally, Vikram exhaled and sat back in his chair.
âYouâre asking me to commit political suicide for a woman the entire world is turning against.â
Arjunâs jaw tightened.
âIâm asking you to make a choice. Do we follow the crowd like fools? Or do we recognize that we are witnessing the rise of someone who will change history?â
Vikram slowly rubbed his temples.
Then he reached for his encrypted comms device.
âWhat do you need?â
A Powerful Gamble
That night, Jamie and Solomon were once again forced to
abandon another safe house
as operatives disguised as protestors
attempted to breach the perimeter.
But just when things seemed their most desperateâ
A
military convoy arrived.
Indian soldiers
in unmarked uniforms
quickly secured the area, creating a protected perimeter. Within moments, Jamie was
escorted to an armored transport
, away from the hostile streets.
Inside the transport,
Colonel Vikram Rathore was waiting.
Jamie studied him for a long moment before speaking.
âYouâre not doing this out of charity. What do you want?â
Vikram smirked.
âI think you already know.â
Jamie narrowed her eyes.
âAn alliance?â
Vikram nodded.
âThe world is changing, Lancaster. I intend to be on the right side of history. You, Admiral Henry, and even Solomon Kaneâyou are people worth winning over.â
Jamie folded her arms.
âAnd what convinced you?â
Vikram chuckled.
ââ
Vikram smiled slightly. "Because I donât follow blind orders. And because my cousin happens to be the pilot of the Green Guardian assigned to Ms. Lancaster."
Jamieâs eyebrows raised slightly.
"Your cousin?"
Vikram nodded." Your pilot. Arjun. He made a damn good argument. He told me what you did back there. How you risked your life, how you fought like a warrior. He was impressedâso was I. He convinced me that youâre worth backing. And Iâve decided heâs right."
Solomon chuckled. "So you're not here out of pure goodwill. You're thinking ahead."
Vikram smirked. "Of course. India's survival depends on making the right allies. And letâs be honestâSolomon Kane, you are monster who learns too fast for anyoneâs comfort. Heâll be a nightmare for our enemies, and you, Ms. Lancaster⊠youâre too brilliant to be discarded."
Jamie turned toward Solomon, who smirked slightly but said nothing.
She
extended her hand to Vikram.
âThen letâs make history.â
They shook hands.
The first true counterstrike against Project Specter had just begun.
