Chapter 220: Ascension and Magic Enervation
âSuch awe-inspiring power.â
Cassius couldnât help but sigh. Compared to the visions of progenitor dragons, even Tiamatâs fearsome form seemed to lack something vital.
But he guessed that the Dragon Queen might not have always been in her current form during the ancient times. How could the deity that once ruled the world possess merely ordinary, weak divinity?
This was just his speculation, though.
Cassius turned his attention back to the panel. Several new messages had appeared.
[You have slain ăWagner the Dragon Mad Black Mage (Challenge Rating: 16)ă, earning 15,000 XP.]
[You have slain ăCentaur Transformed by White Dragonă.]
[You have slain ăGnoll Transformed by White Dragonă.]
[You have slain ăWagnerâs Dragon Madness Spawn (Challenge Rating: 19)ă, earning 22,000 XP.]
Destroying the Polar Night Demon Tower had earned him an immense amount of experience, totaling fifty thousand XP. Combined with the twenty thousand XP gained from killing ăSolemâs Winter Avatară not long ago, it was enough to level up, with some to spare. Much of this experience came from Wagner and the monster he became, while the dragon-like monsters he slew along the way also added significantly to the tally.
Had Cassius been using a typical player template, with no level restrictions, these XP might have allowed him to level up to fifteen in one go.
[You choose to level ăTrue Dragon Sorcereră to level 12.]
[Due to your dragon lineage, your current caster level is: 15.]
Cassius licked his lips in anticipation, sulfur-scented smoke pouring from his nostrils.
A caster level of fifteen meant a significant milestone for a True Dragon Sorcererâit meant he could now cast eighth-tier spells without external assistance.
Delving into the eighth layer of the Weave was a feat that many wizards could not achieve even in their lifetime.
[Gained Extra Dragon Spell: ăMagic Enervationă]
ăMagic Enervationă
Eighth Tier Conjuration
[The dragon shoots an anti-magic ray from one of its raised claws. The dragon must make a ranged touch attack to hit a target creature. If successful, the ray dispels all spell, spell-like, or magical item effects affecting the target. Additionally, magical items held by the target are permanently de-enchanted unless they succeed on a Will save.]
Cassiusâs breathing suddenly quickened.
Anti-magic, removal of magical effects, and de-enchantment of magic items.
âIs this... the draconic version of Mordenkainenâs Disjunction?â
ăMordenkainenâs Disjunctionă was a famed spell from his past life. Once, a foolish wizard player had sneaked into a godâs temple and used Disjunction to turn a holy chalice into an ordinary cup, promptly triggering the deityâs curse.
The player had been hunted down by the churchâs legendary guardians over a hundred times before agreeing to a servitude contract, promising to work for three hundred years just to survive.
This spell was an exceptionally powerful tool for Cassius as well.
ăAntimagic Fieldă could only block spells below the fifth tier, which had long since been outpaced by his current level of battle.
He now faced enemies like Frost Giant Chieftains and Wagner, beings close to legendary levels, wielding countless abilities above the sixth tier. The addition of ăMagic Enervationă greatly elevated his anti-magic capabilities.
If he had had Magic Enervation earlier, there would have been no need for Langpuâs reconnaissance or careful schemingâhe could have simply flattened the Polar Night Demon Tower.
[Gained Extra Dragon Spell: ăEye of Omniscienceă]
ăOmniscience Eyeă
Fourth Tier Divination and Evocation
[The dragonâs eyes flash brightly for a brief moment, opening its mind to every object in the vicinity.
You gain a tremendous field of view, allowing you to see everything clearly in the surrounding area, and become immune to blinding effects.
Additionally, if you possess targeted vision, you can apply the Faerie Fire effect to any invisible creature or object in the area, although doing so will immediately end the Omniscience Eye.]
âA rather interesting spell, a combination of Divination and Evocation, although not very high-tier, its effects are evident.â
That was Cassiusâs evaluation.
As good as the Calamity Dragon Eye was, it was ultimately a seventh-tier spell. Given his current caster level, he could only use it twice a day. Omniscience Eye perfectly filled the gap, ideal for those âusing a sledgehammer to kill a mosquitoâ situations, allowing him to conserve his already limited spell slots.
With the new notifications, an abundance of arcane knowledge surged into Cassiusâs mind, causing his brain, which had just recovered from resisting Dragon Madness, to throb slightly.
While he had previously used the ăStorm Kingâs Eyeă to cast eighth and even ninth-tier spells, those feats had relied on an external artifact. He had been more like a secondary controller, using the Storm Kingâs Eye as a medium. But now, he had to control eighth-tier spells entirely by his own willâa difference as vast as night and day.
He had only just begun mastering seventh-tier spells a few months ago, making his rapid progress akin to a rocket soaring upward.
And as a Dragon Sorcerer, the number of spells he memorized far exceeded ordinary sorcerers.
Typical sorcerers specialized in only a few spells, operating more like magic cannons. While they just needed their innate confidence to channel magic, earning the nickname âbarbarians with staffsâ from wizards, their proficiency and understanding of spells was still essential.
Simply putâ
Cassius was finding himself intellectually overwhelmed.
Fortunately, at level twelve, he still had his once-every-four-levels attribute boost.
[Your character level has increased to 12. You may choose to increase 2 points of normal attributes, 1 point of special attributes (for attributes over 20), or gain an additional feat.]
[Choose to increase Intelligence to 16.]
As the intangible power flowed into his mind, Cassius felt a newfound clarity, with an improvement in memory, analytical ability, and logical thinking. His intelligence finally reachedâthe level of Langpu when he first began his journey seven years ago, albeit a little ironically.
His headache finally subsided a bit.
Cassius carefully examined the ăMagic Enervationă in his mind. This eighth-tier Dragon Spell was indeed similar to an Antimagic Field, but its complexity was exponentially greater.
He would probably need to spend several months mastering it fully.
After all, even a red dragon was considered a magical being. If he botched the spell and disenchanted himself with his own anti-magic ray, that would be a story to make Bahamut laughâa new red dragon joke spread among metallic dragons.
âPhew, itâs finally over.â
Having digested the basics of the new spells, the red dragon refocused and slowly opened his eyes.
He was startled to findâTinia had licked his forepaw completely clean, his long, slender claws gleaming, the rough texture of her tongue almost polishing them to a shine.
âRawr~â
The white dragon looked up at him innocently, her tongue still slightly exposed, tail wagging side to side, her eyes full of devotion.
Cassius: â...â
It seemed that wild white dragons truly lacked mannersâshe would need some thorough re-education!
