Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Wailing in Tears
"Do you have a girlfriend? Are you good to your girlfriend?" Bai Yiran propped her chin with one hand, looking at Leng Yichen in a manner that was irresistibly charming.
Leng Yichen looked at Bai Yiran. For some reason, he had an unusual patience for this girl he barely knew, a patience he had never shown to any woman before. "No, I donāt have a girlfriend!"
Bai Yiran blinked cutely, her drunkenness showing. "Youāre already this old and still donāt have a girlfriend! Donāt be too picky, just find someone whoās kindhearted and be together..."
"Okay." Leng Yichen smiled helplessly.
Bai Yiran, with the air of someone who had been through it all, patted Leng Yichen on the shoulder and, while he was not paying attention, picked up her glass and downed another drink. After this cup, Bai Yiran reached the peak of her drunkenness and started bawling her eyes out.
Leng Yichen felt somewhat awkward as people in the bar began to notice them. "Are you okay?"
Bai Yiran looked at Leng Yichen with tear-filled eyes, "Iām fine... Tell me, why are people so bad nowadays? Are all men naturally unfaithful?"
"No, not everything is absolute."
"How is it not? My dad brought home his mistress and their child just a week after my mother passed away. Uncle, do you know? I was only 8 years old at the time, and the mistressās child was also 8! That proves my dad got her pregnant soon after marrying my mom... The mistress didnāt like me, and neither did her child, so my biological father didnāt want me anymore and sent me to live with my grandma... Thatās my father! And my boyfriend, I thought weād be together forever. He said he wanted to go abroad, so I worked hard to earn money, and then today, he dumped me for another woman! Uncle, do you know who that woman is? Sheās the daughter of the mistress who took my dad away! Uncle, donāt you think Iām pitiful? Iām 23 years old, and both the men in my life have cheated; my father betrayed my mother, and my boyfriend betrayed me..."
Bai Yiran cried pitifully, holding her head in her hands, tears flowing like a faucet, her body trembling like a wounded little beast desperately in need of protection.
Leng Yichen felt a sudden urge to hold Bai Yiran in his arms and comfort her, yet he didnāt know what to say.
Yiran tried to pour herself another glass of wine, but at this point, she couldnāt even hold the bottle steadily. Leng Yichen quickly snatched the bottle from Bai Yiranās hands, and she, unsteady on her feet, fell directly into Leng Yichenās arms.
Bai Yiran looked up at Leng Yichenās chin, "So, you men are all bad... I will never trust men again, never fall in love again..."
"Where is your home? Iāll take you back." Leng Yichen looked at the girl in his arms, his voice soft.
"I donāt want to go home, not like this. Grandma would worry..." Bai Yiran nestled weakly in Leng Yichenās embrace, her consciousness starting to fade.
Bai Yiran absolutely refused to go home, so Leng Yichen had no choice but to charge the bottle of Louis XIII she drank to his own tab, then helped Bai Yiran back to his presidential suite. Fortunately, the suite had two bedrooms, so he could let Bai Yiran sleep in the other room.
After placing Bai Yiran on the bed, Leng Yichen laughed self-deprecatingly. He was not typically a meddlesome, kind-hearted person, and he had never taken care of a woman like this before. He didnāt know what was happening to him, but this girl made him inexplicably want to take care of her.
