Chapter 311: Chapter 304: Running Far Away (Third Update)
In an upscale apartment complex, Li Lan sat anxiously on the sofa making phone calls.
"How about it? Do you have any news... No? Okay, got it..."
Dejectedly hanging up the phone, Li Lan bit her finger, feeling increasingly uneasy.
Wu Jingjing had been missing for several days. During this time, she had been searching relentlessly, employing the help of all friends who could assist, but to no avail. She dared not make a fuss, fearing Wu Chengzu would find out. Although she was supposedly raising Wu Jingjing, in reality, she was using the money Wu Chengzu intended for Wu Jingjing to support herself.
Wu Chengzu was generous, and each time he gave money it was a significant amount. Moreover, as long as she asked for money in Wu Jingjingâs name, Wu Chengzu would provide it without hesitation, giving as much as she requested.
However, ultimately all that money was spent on herself.
Given his perpetual busyness, although no one knew exactly what Wu Chengzu did, he was evidently rich. He rarely inquired about Wu Jingjing, and apart from giving money, there was basically no interaction between him and his daughter.
Li Lan saw this as an opportunity, deliberately defaming Wu Jingjing in front of Wu Chengzu, causing the father-daughter relationship to deteriorate to the point that the only link between them was her, the aunt.
Moreover, she had those photos, which made her even more fearless. After all, Wu Jingjing was just a thirteen-year-old girl, easily frightened.
The sound of a game filled the air, and Li Lan turned to see her boyfriend lounging on the sofa, playing a mobile game. This man had beautiful hands; it was these hands that first attracted Li Lan to him. She loved this man, and even though she knew of the atrocious things he did to Wu Jingjing, she still didnât want to leave him.
After all, Wu Jingjing was just a useless child. With this child, she could not only extract money from Wu Chengzu but also use the child to bind her boyfriend to her. And so Li Lan continued living a vain, satisfying, and twisted life day by day.
It wasnât until Wu Jingjing went missing that Li Lan began to panic. She was really afraid of what would happen if Wu Chengzu found out.
"How can you still play games at a time like this?" Li Lan kicked her boyfriend.
Her boyfriend frowned, "What are you worried about? Her dad doesnât visit her for ten days or even half a month at times, the longest being half a year..."
Li Lan thought about it and realized he was right. But even so, she couldnât just ignore Wu Jingjing. If something happened to Wu Jingjing outside, where would she find a daughter to return to Wu Chengzu?
As these thoughts ran through her mind and she was just about to speak, her boyfriend continued, "You arenât really planning to take care of that girl forever, are you? Sooner or later, weâre going to get married. Although the little girl isnât all bad, she is still a surplus."
Hearing her boyfriend talk about marriage, Li Lanâs eyes began to shine, quietly listening to the rest of his words.
"I say, why donât we take advantage of the fact that Wu Chengzu is still in the dark about this, and ask him for a large sum of money in Wu Jingjingâs name? Then we can take the money and run, and by then, who can do anything to us far away?"
Her boyfriendâs words lit up Li Lanâs eyes, making perfect sense to her. She had long detested Wu Jingjing, the wretched child, and if not for the money and binding her boyfriend, she wouldnât have endured for so long. Now that her boyfriend suggested it, Li Lan was certainly willing.
Ding-dong!
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Still immersed in her boyfriendâs proposal, Li Lan opened the door without asking who was outside, only to find Wu Chengzu standing elegantly at the entrance, a smile playing on his lips.
