Chapter 535: Chapter 528: The Abyss
At the dining table, Cheng Shishi was as if sitting on pins and needles, not even daring to look Bai Yiran in the eyes.
"Shishi, whatās wrong with you? Youāre out of sorts since coming back from the bathroom. Eat something!" Xia Lian noticed her daughter hadnāt picked up her chopsticks and felt something was off. "What did you two sisters talk about in the bathroom? You were gone for so long and returned without speaking a word!"
Xia Lianās gaze flitted between Cheng Shishi and Bai Yiran. She had only recently reconciled with Cheng Gang, and the family life had just gotten back on track. If Cheng Shishi and Bai Yiran caused some conflict now, the household might be thrown into chaos once more.
It baffled Xia Lian how the two sisters, who used to get along so well, had come to this? Why were they frequently at odds?
Cheng Shishi glanced at Bai Yiran, but was startled by Bai Yiranās seemingly perceptive eyes and quickly diverted her gaze to the table. "Oh, Mom, donāt worry. My big sister and I are fine, right, sis?"
Bai Yiran stared at Cheng Shishi, and after a while, a slight smile formed. "Thatās right, aunt, Shishi and I are fine."
After speaking, she fell silent and continued eating.
Since the two sisters had said so, everyone thought nothing of it, attributing Bai Yiranās subdued mood to it being her motherās death anniversary today.
Only Leng Yichen looked deeply at Bai Yiran, his large hand grasping hers beneath the table.
Before long, the meal was finished. On such a day, no one felt like chatting or making small talk. Grandma and the children were waiting at home, having already called several times to ask when Bai Yiran would return.
Cheng Shishi followed Cheng Gang and Xia Lian home, sitting in her seat and gazing out the window.
Earlier, at the restaurant entrance, Bai Yiranās words of warning echoed in Cheng Shishiās mind.
"Shishi, donāt hold illusions about the wrong person, or youāll end up hurting yourself."
Currently, Bai Yiran didnāt know that Wu Chengzu could very well be the person with the snake-shaped birthmark on his ankle. If she knew, her warning wouldnāt have been so simple!
Cheng Shishi felt unsettled inside. She urgently needed to see Wu Chengzu to confirm this matter. Otherwise, she couldnāt have peace of mind.
Deep down, she still entertained the fantasy that perhaps she was too tired back then and saw wrong, and Wu Chengzu didnāt have that on his ankle.
Perhaps Wu Chengzu wasnāt a terrifying person like Nawa, and it was all just her overthinking...
"Dad, pull over ahead. I just remembered thereās something I need to do."
Cheng Gang glanced at Cheng Shishi through the rearview mirror. "What do you need to do?"
"I need to go to a classmateās house to get a book, a very important book." Cheng Shishi found that ever since she met Wu Chengzu, her ability to lie had improved significantly, reaching a point where she could do it with a straight face and calm heart.
After all, Cheng Gang wouldnāt gaze into her eyes like Bai Yiran does and probe into her heart.
Cheng Gang dropped Cheng Shishi off by the roadside and reminded her to come home early. Cheng Shishi readily agreed before disappearing into the crowd.
Watching Cheng Gangās car drive away, Cheng Shishi dialed Wu Chengzuās number, unsurprisingly receiving no answer. Clutching her phone tightly, she got into a taxi heading towards Wu Chengzuās place.
Unaware, this action would directly push her into the abyss.
At the Wu Family, Wu Jingjing was sitting on the couch playing games when the doorbell rang.

"Teacher Xiao Cheng?" Wu Jingjing was surprised to see Cheng Shishi at her doorstep. Lately, they had only been in contact via WeChat and hadnāt met face-to-face.
"Jingjing, is your dad home?" Cheng Shishiās expression wasnāt great, her face rather pale.
Wu Jingjing shook her head. "No, heās been quite busy lately."
"Okay." Cheng Shishi nodded. "Can I come in?"
