“What’s going on?” Mother Lin called out again, and Sun Rongfang looked to Director Wu, puzzled, seeking an explanation.

Director Wu just gave a bitter smile. Students from the Guoxie Eight-Year Program—their Xuanwu Hospital would probably not be able to recruit them. Those graduates were medical graduates whom hospitals all over the country could not manage to snatch up even if they tried.

As the train stopped at a temporary station, an ambulance arrived, and Aunt Fang accompanied Uncle Fang, who had already woken up, off the train. As the couple passed by Xie Wanying, they repeatedly said, “Xie Xie, Xie Xie!!”

“No need to thank me, it’s my duty,” Xie Wanying said.

“I believe in you, you’ll definitely become a good doctor in the future, much better than her. In the future, my old man and I will only go to you for our medical needs,” Aunt Fang said as she held Xie Wanying’s hand.

Sun Rongfang just rolled her eyes upon witnessing this. Before, this couple had looked down upon her daughter becoming a doctor as if it were the worst thing, and now they had completely changed their tune.

Director Wu glanced at his watch, then looked over at Lin Liqiong and her daughter, who had slipped to the back of the crowd, and shook his head, saying, “When we return to the hospital, I’ll discuss your case with the head of the medical education department.”

Upon hearing this, Lin Liqiong covered her face with her hands.

Mother Lin was stunned and exclaimed, “No, Director, what’s going on? Who are you telling my daughter to meet?”

Director Wu spread his hands and said, “Can you not tell? Your daughter has a pretty serious issue. For her to intern at our hospital and leave like this, we can’t face the public.”

Mother Lin let out a yelp of shock, and panicked, chased after Director Wu, “Director, director, director, listen to my explanation. My daughter isn’t usually like this; it’s all because this person kept competing with her… of course, at first, we didn’t know she was a student from Guoxie.”

Mother Lin sobbed, worrying about what would become of her daughter now. Could it be that she wouldn’t be able to graduate or become a doctor?

“Make a good change. Go back and study hard,” Director Wu said earnestly and motioned to Xie Wanying, “Come, let’s talk some more.”

Clearly, Director Wu thought that even if they couldn’t recruit students like Xie Wanying from the Guoxie Eight-Year Program in the future, this young lady’s humility and eagerness to learn was irresistible, and he couldn’t help but want to teach her. Because any teacher would want to teach a good student. Maybe in the future, Xie Wanying would remember him if she were to consider coming to Xuanwu Hospital.

Director Wu even invited them both to the dining car for lunch. The train conductor, grateful that Xie Wanying and her companions had saved a passenger and averted a crisis on the train, offered them a free lunch for three.

As her daughter talked with Director Wu, Sun Rongfang listened with wide eyes, although she didn’t understand much of it.

“Where did you get all this medical knowledge from?” Director Wu asked Xie Wanying, “Does someone in your family practice medicine? Did someone teach you?”

“To be honest, Teacher Wu, when my mother was sent down to the countryside, she worked at a health center and wanted to become a doctor but never had the chance. Otherwise, my mother would also be a doctor whom I admire,” Xie Wanying earnestly shared her thoughts.
