Chapter 1007: [1007] An uninvited guest
It is for this very reason that even though Nie Jiamin had given her his phone number, Xie Wanying would not dare to call and disturb the professor unless it was absolutely necessary.
âUnderstood, senior brother.â Xie Wanying acknowledged.
Sitting in the car, Xie Wanying reflected: Did Teacher Lu come to the conference today? She remembered that, after Teacher Luâs grandson Zhang Shuping expressed a keen interest in the conference that evening, Teacher Lu said he would bring his grandson to see it. Could it be that they would come tomorrow if not today?
What if Teacher Lu doesnât come tomorrow either? Xie Wanying frowned at the thought.
She called the department and was told by a senior colleague not to come back to the hospital and instead to go to school to rest. The next day, she rose early and hurried to the hospital. It was said that yesterday afternoon, the cardiothoracic surgery team had their final pre-operative discussion with the department, discussing the specific details of the collaboration between the two departments during the surgery. Since she had not attended, she was unsure what issues were raised during the meeting and hoped she could ask a colleague about it.
It was just past six oâclock, and today was bound to be the busiest day in the department. Three surgical demonstrations were to be live-streamed, and the doctors involved in the event needed to return to the department early to prepare.
The nurses were busy from early morning, making pre-operative preparations for the patients to be transferred to the surgery room downstairs. The overnight doctor on duty seemed to be asleep and had not gotten up.
The departmentâs corridors were quiet, likely because most of the doctors had not yet arrived.
As she turned into the doctorsâ office to get the patientsâ medical records and look through the pre-operative discussion notes, Xie Wanying halted abruptly at the door, wondering if she was seeing things, and a hesitant voice squeezed out of her lips: âTeacher Lu?â
Teacher Lu was indeed the epitome of a teacher, walking his medical student grandson Zhang Shuping through the doctorsâ office, saying as they toured, âHepatobiliary Surgery, our hospitalâs most renowned and prestigious department. Donât touch anything on the desk; theyâll complain about your hands being dirty.â
âEh?â Zhang Shuping let out a puzzled sound.
âNot that your hands are literally dirty, but the people here fear infectious diseases. Hepatitis B is not a laughing matter. Theyâre afraid of getting infected by you, and also afraid that you might infect them.â
Doctors are much more aware of the fearsomeness of diseases and thus pay more mind to these trivial matters.
âBut isnât the main transmission route of hepatitis B through blood?â
âHepatitis B can also be transmitted through other bodily fluids,â Teacher Lu turned back, as if ready to tap his grandsonâs head with the Teaching Whip, âThis place is different from the outside world; there are many patients with hepatitis B here, with hidden sources of infection everywhere. Who knows whether someone has properly disinfected? One must always be cautious of others.â
After listening to his grandmotherâs words, Zhang Shupingâs face revealed a tense expression, and his gaze around him shifted as if he had suddenly found himself in a minefield, muttering, âGrandma, you didnât mention this when Grandpa was hospitalized here.â
âBack then, you were just a family member, and you left after visiting your grandpa. Your situation is different now; youâre going to be a doctor one day, and you need to have this kind of preventative awareness.â
Teacher Lu always spoke bluntly. Xie Wanying recalled her first day in the Hepatobiliary Surgery department, how the words of education given to her by her seniors were much more obscure; perhaps it wasnât appropriate to speak frankly in front of patients. Teachers each have their own style, and Teacher Luâs straightforward approach was undoubtedly warmly welcomed by students. Thinking about it, all her fellow junior and senior colleagues liked Teacher Lu very much.
âYouâre here? Why didnât you make a sound?â Turning around, Teacher Lu eventually noticed Xie Wanying standing at the doorway and asked.
