"Are you Xie Wanying?"
Xie Wanying carefully identified the voice, confirming it was Sister Weng.
Her mother was right, the person indeed cherishes their life. As a doctor, due to professional ethics, one needs to leave a way out for others.
To love money but lose oneâs life equals having no blessing to enjoy; only a fool would do such a thing. Sister Weng must have figured it out to make this call.
"I apologize for my harsh tone during the call in the afternoon, Dr. Xie. Please forgive me. There have been too many personal issues for me lately." Sister Wengâs current attitude was like what Wu Lixuan described beforeâher good temper, compared to the fiery mood this afternoon.
"How is your health now?" Xie Wanying asked. The other party chose to call in the middle of the night, showing itâs not a good situation.
Surely, to drive this person to apologize indicates the patient realizes their condition isnât very good.
Sister Wengâs voice had long turned pale and fearful over the phone line: "Iâm bleeding more and more. Dr. Xie, do you think my situation might be an ectopic pregnancy?"
"How long have you been missing your menstrual period?" Diagnosing a patientâs condition over the phone isnât easy, so Xie Wanying first asked about the patientâs medical history.
"I donât quite remember. Iâm busy with work and have a lot going on, my periods are always irregular. Maybe my period hasnât come for one or two months?" Sister Weng said hesitantly.
Many patients, when nervous, claim they canât remember anything. In gynecology, female patients being unable to answer their accurate menstrual date is very common. Generally speaking, very few women can remember each month which day their period starts and ends. Unless they jot it down in a notebook monthly, which most donât. Mainly, few womenâs periods come on fixed dates each month. With fast-paced living, studying, and working, a few days delay or advance in womenâs periods is normal.
"Do you feel severe abdominal pain now?" Xie Wanying turned to ask about the patientâs current symptoms, which is also a very critical question. Since the patient suspects an ectopic pregnancy, itâs one of the most dangerous acute gynecological issues, with severe pain on the affected side during rupture and heavy bleeding as a key symptom.
"Itâs not very painful at the moment," Sister Weng said.
Xie Wanying gauged the patient wasnât in a heavy bleeding state, then asked, "How long have you been bleeding?"
"I initially thought it was my period coming, some blood, not much. Itâs been flowing more these past two days," Sister Weng answered.
"What color is the blood? Are there any other things in the blood?" Xie Wanying continued to inquire.
"There seems to be something in the blood, unclear what it is. My periods werenât good before, there were clots, the doctor said I have a weak cold constitution," Sister Weng recalled.
"How did you come to suspect you might be pregnant? Did you not initially notice your belly getting big, thinking you were gaining weight, only to realize your belly was large and then suspect pregnancy?"
"Yes." Sister Wengâs tone revealed a hint of surprise, at how a student could ask questions as if a seasoned doctor.
"Did you buy a pregnancy test strip yourself and find out the result?"
"Yes."
"What result?"
"Two lines." After answering, Sister Weng asked her again, "Am I having an ectopic pregnancy?"
"Itâs probably not an ectopic pregnancy, but the problem could still be serious," Xie Wanying said.
"If itâs not ectopic, could the problem be more severe?" Sister Weng expressed doubt about her statement.
