Chapter 1817: Chapter 1817: I Don’t Want to Do This

As soon as he arrived, Little Yu puffed up indignantly, “King, why did you also assign me to do this, I want to hunt! To hunt!”

Bai Xing didn’t even look at him, “You’ve gone out hunting so many times, but have you ever made a catch? You’re just a drag and nearly got snatched away to be eaten by another tribe. It’s better for you to do this instead. If you don’t do anything at all, Beastmen will start calling you useless.”

“But they are all females, I’m the only male…” Little Yu grumbled, “You might as well let me go foraging! There are males and females in foraging, as well as the old, weak, sick, and disabled. Didn’t you say I was weak? Then let me go forage. I don’t want to do this.”

Xue Ganggang, getting the gist, laughed, “Doesn’t this just show you aren’t that weak after all?”

Little Yu was stunned, then happily said, “Right!”

Bai Xing just found it amusing.

...

Only then did Xue Ganggang ask, “Are you weeding? What’s the weeding for?”

Little Yu responded, “Oh, the King wants our tribe to try and see if we can grow wild vegetables on our own, so that way we won’t need to have Beastmen always going around gathering wild vegetables and fruits.”

Although Xue Ganggang knew that Bai Xing’s mind was already considered very sharp in the Beast World, and his thoughts far-sighted, she still gave a side glance at Bai Xing’s profile upon hearing this, and then she asked further, “Do you have seeds?”

Little Yu replied, “Yeah, the King has been planning this for two or three years now. Regarding those edible wild vegetables and fruits, we left some unharvested, having some Beastmen specifically watch over them and note their growth cycles, when they sprout and when they can be eaten, as well as which environments they thrive best in. They also identified which part of the plant holds the seeds, harvested them, and we’ve got a special cave to store them… anyway, after roughly figuring it out, this year we can start experimenting with planting. That’s why we need to weed and prepare the ground for planting.”

“This…” To be honest, she was quite impressed with Bai Xing.

She couldn’t help but look at Bai Xing again.

Little Yu continued, “Elder sister, look, those few fruit trees over there were discovered by the King in a place a bit far from the tribe. Then he uprooted them and planted them there. That was when the King had just become king, and now they’ve grown so big. Every year they bear a lot of fruit. Sometimes when the tribe’s foraging team goes out, they don’t need to gather much because they can just pick from those trees. Anyway, the Beastmen in the tribe all think it’s convenient and good, so everyone is very supportive of the King’s plan to grow seeds within the tribe’s territory, believing that it will be the same as those transplanted trees that survived. If we really can grow our own, that would be great. Sometimes the foraging team can’t gather enough, and if they go too far, it’s dangerous. My grandfather says that as long as we listen to the King, we can’t go wrong.”

Although Little Yu was actually quite afraid of Bai Xing, he also admired the King immensely, so he couldn’t help but show off a little towards the end.

Bai Xing shook his head, not paying attention to the youngster. This young one couldn’t be allowed outside, too naive and easily tricked into saying too much.

Meanwhile, Xue Ganggang followed the direction of Little Yu’s pointing and noticed several fruit trees indeed planted at the edge of the tribe, spaced quite far apart from each other. Since there was distance between the fruit trees and there were teams to gather wild vegetables and fruits, she thought that this place was so undeveloped that they still didn’t know how to cultivate, and so naturally assumed that the few wild fruit trees had always grown there, never considering they were actually transplanted.

While she didn’t agree that everything Bai Xing said was correct, she had to admit that what he was doing was indeed not wrong, but very correct.
