Chapter 1973: Extra: A Brand New Life 88 (Jiang Yue and Xue Yan) Chapter 1973: Extra: A Brand New Life 88 (Jiang Yue and Xue Yan) “He couldn’t see his mother for the last time while she was alive, but after her death… Si Yan’s father still wanted Si Yan to see his mother’s face for one last time, so, even though Si Yan had been kidnapped for many days, Si Yan’s father had never cremated Si Yan’s mother.”

“Si Yan saw the body of his mother for the last time, and after she was cremated, he told me, ‘Let’s break up. I don’t want to see you again.'”

“He was kidnapped by my father and even had his legs broken, yet he never thought about breaking up with me. But his mother’s death was a hurdle he couldn’t get over, and neither could I. Such a kind person…”, she trailed off.

At this point, though Jiang Yue couldn’t see, Qin Zi’s tears still fell.

“She had said that once Si Yan and I got married and had children, she wanted to help take care of the kids. But such a person… just gone like that…”

After wiping her tears, Qin Zi continued, “When the police rescued Si Yan and me, my father and those people were so scared they ran away. Those people were all caught, but my father, while trying to escape, fell into a sewage pond filled with toxic water. He had only fallen in for two minutes, and before he could even be pulled out, he was gone. I guess that’s karma.”

In conclusion, Qin Zi summarized, “The thing that always came between me and Si Yan wasn’t his legs; it was the life of his mother, Madam Tao. Every time he saw me, he would remember my father, remember how his mother died.”

Then, she added simply, “Yu Xiao and I were University classmates, but at that time I didn’t know her well and barely spoke to her. It was only after I got together with Si Yan that I found out she also liked him.”

Having heard everything, Jiang Yue finally understood why her friend didn’t want her to have a good life.

She guessed that Si Yan hadn’t treated his legs before perhaps because he didn’t want himself to have a good life either.

Because that way, it’d make them feel a little better inside, feeling they were somewhat worthy of Madam Tao.

However…

“That’s a bit strange,” Jiang Yue remarked. “Is your father really that foolish? Even if he loves gambling, lacks money, and is muddled, you and Si Yan were dating. He never asked you to get money from Si Yan; he just went straight to risking a kidnapping.”

Qin Zi replied, “When I was tied up in the old building, I asked my dad that question. He just said he needed money. Those still in prison owed huge debts too. The interrogation confirmed that, with no disputes—it was just a need for money that led to Si Yan’s kidnapping.”

Since Mr. Qin was dead and those who had kidnapped Si Yan with him attested to the same motive, Jiang Yue could only respond with a “Hmm,” acknowledging she understood, with nothing more to say.

Later, Qin Zi also told Xu Yi and the others.

Xu Yi and the rest were aware, and there was no need for Jiang Yue to speak of it, as Xue Yan also knew about these matters. Nonetheless, they would never bring it up in front of Qin Zi.

It wasn’t something worth mentioning.

Unless there was no other choice and it was necessary, then it might be brought up.

Time flies, and before you know it, Si Yan could stand up and walk a few steps on his own. He had been in the hospital for almost half a year. After another check-up, the results showed that he was recovering well. As long as he continued with his rehabilitation, he would eventually make a full recovery.

Yu Yaolan had been discharged from the hospital much earlier. However, she wasn’t at the company but at home, where she was recuperating while dealing with corporate affairs that required the president’s personal attention.

Si Yan was able to leave the hospital and was now recuperating at home. Naturally, his rehabilitation was carried out at home. In the hospital, even while lying down, Si Yan was never idle, and now that he was back home, it was inevitable that even more corporate affairs were brought before him, as everyone could imagine.
