“Hello, class monitor and comrades. My name is Deng Hai, and I’m from Xiangnan. I’m 176 centimeters tall and weigh 135 kilograms. As for my sexual orientation, I prefer women.” Deng Hai, the impolite recruit who had taken off his shoes first, introduced himself.

“Hello, class monitor and fellow comrades. My name is Song Yuejin…” The next three introductions were much swifter.

Wang Ye was the sixth to introduce himself.

“Good day, class monitor and fellow comrades. I’m Wang Ye, also from Xiangnan. I’m nineteen years old, 1.78 meters tall, weigh 126 pounds, and have a high school diploma. My hobbies are simple; I enjoy spending time online. I came to the military because I wanted to serve my country.”

Wang Ye refrained from disclosing that he was coerced by his family into quitting his internet addiction, which was the case with the original owner of his body. He reminded himself that he was reborn and that he had willingly come here.

“Very well. Do your best!” The class monitor did not utter any more words after the formalities. He gave a casual remark and immediately called out, “Next!”

Wang Ye did not take offense. He never anticipated that he could accomplish his mission of the system during the self-introduction phase. While he desired to do so, he knew it was unlikely.

He could have announced that his family had a net worth of tens of millions of dollars and that he was addicted to the Internet. His father forced him to join the military, threatening to disinherit him if he didn’t comply.

Suddenly, there was a loud cheer from outside, thanking the instructor. Everyone listened intently, but the class monitor, Ye Sanshi, remained calm. “Alright, no need to look. It’s just the instructor bringing in some people to greet us. Other classes will follow suit. Let’s continue soaking our feet. If you don’t want to soak, you can stand up!”

As the class monitor spoke, the recruits quickly lifted their legs and prepared to wipe their feet. However, no one had time to pour water. After washing up, they stood in the dormitory and waited by the bed under the class monitor’s signal.

A couple of moments later, a few officers walked in, led by the first lieutenant who had gone to Wang Ye’s hometown to receive soldiers.

“You’ve already washed your feet! Why didn’t you soak them for a little longer?” The instructor, also the first lieutenant, entered with a smile that he had not shown the day before. He appeared very amiable.

“Hello, instructor!” The new recruits saluted together under Ye Sanshi’s lead.

“Yes,” Kang Hua nodded and returned the greeting. He looked at the recruits standing straight in front of their beds on both sides with a smile. “How are you all doing? Are you getting used to it? Your class monitor has been treating you well, hasn’t he?”

“Hehe, instructor, our class monitor is very kind. He even helped us get hot water to wash our feet just now!” one of the recruits exclaimed.

“Yes, yes! Instructor, our class monitor is amazing!” added another.

At the instructor’s inquiry, all the recruits smiled and spoke up for their squad leader.

“Haha! I’m glad to hear that I haven’t mistreated you”

Kang Hua chuckled. “You are all new comrades. Today is your first night in our army, and you’re likely missing home. So, I’m leaving a phone here for you. Although it’s late, you can still try to contact your family and let them know that you’re safe.”

“Oh, how smart. How very smart!” Wang Ye exclaimed inwardly.

The army was really scheming. No wonder everyone had been treated so well earlier. They were just biding time.

After getting out of the car, they beat the drums and gongs, enthusiastically helped to carry the bags, and even had the class monitor bring water for the recruits to soak their feet in.

How could they tell their families that the army was mistreating them? Oh, how devious indeed.
