Chapter 222: Chapter 221: Almost Blew My Cover
Waking up from a nap, Lin Wanwan stared at the glass ceiling above and suddenly sat up, exclaiming, "Oh no!"
Lu Shouyue, who was sitting in the driverâs seat, closed his laptop and smiled, "Youâre awake? Whatâs wrong?"
Lin Wanwan took out her phone to check the time; it was almost four in the afternoon, which was six in the morning in the Great Tang. Without her sleeping beside it, little Qingyu might be half-asleep, half-awake, clinging to someone by now.
If Qingyu found Lin Wanwan, it would continue to snuggle up to her pillow and sleep for another hour. If no one was there, it would most likely wake up completely and start crying.
That would blow her cover!
"Mr. Lu, Iâm sorry, I fell asleep. Why didnât you wake me? I promised to treat you to lunch." Lin Wanwan felt a bit down but didnât want to blame him.
"You were sleeping so soundly, I couldnât bring myself to wake you. Havenât you been sleeping well recently? You have dark circles under your eyes." Lu Shouyue took the coat Lin Wanwan handed over, stretched, and placed it and his laptop in the back seat.
Lin Wanwan gave a helpless smile and said, "Itâs nothing, just been going to bed late these days, so Iâm a bit sleep-deprived. I promised to treat you to lunch, and now itâs almost dinner time."
Lu Shouyue laughed, "Thatâs perfect, Iâll treat you to dinner."
Lin Wanwan shook her head, "Sorry, Mr. Lu, I have something to do tonight, I need to rush back. Iâve taken up so much of your time, letâs reschedule another day."
After saying this, she was about to get off the car but found that the car door was locked.
Lu Shouyue started the car, sighed, and said, "Well, in that case, Iâll have to take you home first."
Lin Wanwan quickly waved her hand, "No, no, go have something to eat first, Iâm really sorry for taking up your whole afternoon, I can just get a cab."
With a slightly reproachful glance, Lu Shouyue said, "How could I just leave you like that?"
Before they knew it, the car smoothly exited the parking lot and headed in the direction of Lin Wanwanâs home.
Lin Wanwan said apologetically, "Then Iâll trouble you."
"Itâs okay, rest a bit more if youâre tired."
Lin Wanwan smiled and shook her head, "No need, Iâve slept for so long already."
On the way back, Lin Wanwan kept looking at her phone, anxious, and they happened to hit a traffic jam on the Outer Bund Bridge.
Seeing her distracted and frequently checking the time, Lu Shouyue silently showcased his driving skills, weaving through traffic, ignoring the curses from the car window, navigated through the most congested section, and stepped on the gas to deliver Lin Wanwan to the villa courtyard.
Lin Wanwan hopped out of the car, thanked him, "I wonât invite you in today since I have things to do, thank you, Mr. Lu. Next time I promise to treat you to a nice meal!"
Lu Shouyue smiled, "Alright, Iâll wait for you to invite me."
"Mr. Lu, as I mentioned before about the Ancient Zither, itâll be in my hands in a few days. Iâll show it to you then."
"Alright, thank you for thinking of me."
"Okay. Bye-bye, Iâm heading in now."
Lin Wanwan didnât continue exchanging pleasantries with Lu Shouyue. After speaking, she immediately turned around, scanned her fingerprint, and went inside. She needed to change her clothes and head to the Great Tang promptly.
Outside, Lu Shouyue watched as Lin Wanwan decisively closed the door, looking somewhat thoughtful.
Although he hadnât initiated any investigation into Lin Wanwanâs background, nor had he explored how she came to possess the Ancient Zither, paintings, and porcelain, he didnât do it himself, but someone else inevitably would. So, as long as he cared, he would eventually find out.
The main thing was that Lin Wanwan was somewhat of an online celebrity, and information about her naturally leaked out. In the era of big data, everything is transparent.
People like Ye Ying were not rare around Lin Wanwan. They might not know much, but they knew the basic information, which was bound to leak out at some point, mixed with all sorts of truth and lies online.
Lin Wanwanâs identity as an orphan was once dug up online, and it was Lu Shouyue who paid to suppress the news. This time, he also shielded her from inquiries about the music score.
Yet, his own curiosity kept growing. If it werenât so outlandish, he would have thought Lin Wanwanâs home might be connected to some underground palace.
Returning to the Great Tang, sure enough, little Qingyu, unable to find her, was already sitting up in bed, staring blankly at the empty bed. The next second, it would probably wail.
At that moment, Lin Wanwan pulled back the bed curtain, climbed onto the bed with a smile, and whispered, "Little Yuâer, youâre awake, come on, sleep a bit more with mommy."
Upon seeing Lin Wanwan, Qingyu closed its open mouth again and softly called out, "Mommy~"
"Yes, letâs sleep a bit more."
Lin Wanwan, holding little Qingyu, lay back on the bed. Qingyu snuggled its head against her shoulder, found a comfortable position, and indeed closed its eyes and continued sleeping.
If no one woke it up, it could sleep till eight in the morning without issue.
Even though Lin Wanwan was wide awake due to her earlier worries, at the seaside of Mao County, she didnât need to get up early. So, she lay there with little Qingyu, pretending to nap; if she could nap again, that would be the best.
After relaxing for a bit, Lin Wanwan fell asleep again and was awakened by the ringing "ding ding ding" from the school later.
Little Qingyu was already awake, just lying on the pillow, watching Lin Wanwan. As long as Lin Wanwan didnât get up, it could stay lying there too. Sleeping next to mommy, even time seemed to slow down.
Upon seeing Lin Wanwan open her eyes, little Qingyu mumbled in the next second, "Mommy, I need to pee."
"Go quickly," Lin Wanwan quickly replied.
The little one skillfully flipped over Lin Wanwan, climbed down from the bed, slipped on its cloth shoes, and circled around the bed to open the toilet lid and sit for its morning routine.
This ceramic toilet was something Lin Wanwan bought from modern times last winter. It was originally designed for pregnant women and the elderly or disabled, a mobile toilet with a hollow interior and a PP material portable inner bucket.
In the Great Tang, there were similar designs, but they were made of wood with covers. The ceramic toilet was much easier to clean, and Lin Wanwan chose one made of antibacterial material because she didnât want to compromise on comfort.
Since it was used in her own house, with one on each floor, only a few close servants knew about it, so she wasnât afraid of the information getting out.
When it came to living well, one should choose comfort whenever possible. Lin Wanwan was in the Great Tang to enjoy life, not to suffer. She found the wooden ones with covers truly inconvenient and felt they werenât clean, harboring many germs.
There were actually even more convenient mobile toilets designed for RVs, with separate tanks. The top could be flushed with a push, and the bottom had a degradable liquid, lasting four to five days with no odor.
But these were too advanced for the Great Tangâs technology. Lin Wanwan ultimately didnât choose them, worrying that her household servants might not accept it, especially since the degradable liquid was blue.
