Chapter 237: Chapter 236: Misjudging Alcohol Tolerance
Seeing Lin Wanwan not speaking at all and looking like she could fall asleep at any moment, Lu Shouyue rang the bell, settled the bill, and helped Lin Wanwan downstairs.
Lin Wanwan still had some consciousness, but the drunkenness was indeed strong. She could only walk unevenly, struggling quite a bit.
If it werenât for Lu Shouyue supporting her, she would have rolled down the stairs long ago.
Outside the bar, Lu Shouyue suddenly picked Lin Wanwan up horizontally.
Lin Wanwan weakly struggled twice, "Cousin, are you drunk again? Iâm not studying; if you want to study, do it yourself."
Listening to Lin Wanwanâs nonsense, Lu Shouyue chuckled, "Wanwan, didnât see that coming! Youâre pretty diligent, thinking about studying even when drunk and calling out âcousin.â Which cousin?"
Hearing Lin Wanwan mention another man, Lu Shouyue didnât think much of it. After all, she was calling âcousinâ. In modern society, cousin relationships naturally hold only family affection, not ambiguity.
Lin Wanwan said no more, reaching out to embrace Lu Shouyueâs neck to prevent herself from falling.
Seeing Lin Wanwan completely unresistant in his arms, Lu Shouyue couldnât help but let a smile stretch across his lips, his heartbeat involuntarily speeding up.
After putting Lin Wanwan in the back seat and securing her seatbelt, Lu Shouyue let out a soft breathâ not from fatigue, but from nervousness.
With such a beauty in his arms, her fragrance intoxicating, it was quite stimulating. It was the closest heâd ever been to Lin Wanwan.
Then Lu Shouyue, feeling good, pushed up the armrest in the middle of the back seat and sat down next to Lin Wanwan.
After drinking, naturally, they had to call for a designated driver.
Lu Shouyue said to the driver in the seat, "Letâs go, try to drive as smoothly as possible."
"Alright, please fasten your seatbelt."
Without exchanging words along the way, Lin Wanwan reverted to the sweet and cute doll she was and fell asleep.
The car drove all the way into the neighborhood and parked in the yard of Lin Wanwanâs home.
Lin Wanwan was carried out of the car by Lu Shouyue, looking a bit dazed at the front door of her home, she murmured, "How did I return to the modern era?"
"You thought you were in ancient times?" Lu Shouyue laughed, "Iâll take you inside."
Lin Wanwan ignored him, jumped right off, pushed his hand away, rushed to the door, and used her finger to open the fingerprint lock.
Lu Shouyue followed closely behind her, fearing she might fall.
Once inside, Lin Wanwan kicked off her shoes and staggered upstairs. Lu Shouyue took off his shoes too, and followed her, socks on, once again scooping her into his arms.
With Lin Wanwan wobbling every few steps, Lu Shouyue didnât feel safe letting her walk by herself. If she fell from the stairs, it wouldnât be a joke.
Lin Wanwan was princess-carried again, but she frowned, reached out, and pinched Lu Shouyueâs face, staring at him intently, "Are we going to study again?"
"Weâre not." Lu Shouyue replied hoarsely as he held Lin Wanwan, overwhelmed by her fragrance and the smell of alcohol, his mind wandering, heart pounding, and voice dry, "Which one is your bedroom?"
It was his first time on the second floor of Lin Wanwanâs house and his first time entering a girlâs boudoir, stepping into Lin Wanwanâs personal domain.
Lin Wanwan pointed with her hand, and Lu Shouyue pushed the door open, carrying her into the room, both landing directly on the bed.
Then Lu Shouyue, with some reluctance, watched the drunken Lin Wanwan, unwilling to push away the hands wrapped around his neck, internally torn, with a strong urge to steal a kiss.
Lin Wanwanâs rosy lips seemed to have infinite magic, firmly locking his gaze, unable to move away.
But he thought a first kiss should have some ceremony, at least not during the otherâs drunken and unclear state... yet, she was so captivating, it was hard to resist.
Just as Lu Shouyue was about to go for it, Lin Wanwan suddenly pushed him away with such surprising strength and sat up muttering to herself, "Oh no, my Qingyu canât see me, sheâll cry, I have to accompany her."
Lu Shouyue was pushed to the door by Lin Wanwanâs force, startled, he fled hastily, closing the door behind him. So he didnât hear what Lin Wanwan was saying or see the ancient mysterious door appearing suddenly the moment he left.
Standing at the door, Lu Shouyue took a few deep breaths before turning to go downstairs.
After sitting in the car for quite a while, the heat in his body gradually subsided.
He didnât call for the designated driver again but took out a spare blanket, planning to spend the night in the car.
Lin Wanwan was drunk, he couldnât leave her alone at home.
As the long-limbed Lu Shouyue uncomfortably fell asleep in the car, Lin Wanwan had long since opened the Space-Time Gate and returned to the Great Tang, stripping off her modern clothes scattered all over the floor and climbing into a warm bed.
Even though she stayed nearly sixteen hours in the modern era this night, it had only been four hours in the Great Tang. It was just midnight, and little Qingyu was sleeping soundly.
Lin Wanwan slept soundly too, the only one feeling sore and achy was the poor Lu Shouyue.
Time passed slowly, and outside, the rooster crowed, its piercing call breaking through the dark sky of Lin Family Manor.
Lin Wanwan sat up, her head a bit dizzy, but because of the quality of the wine, it wasnât very painful.

Sitting on the bed recalling last night, her memory was a bit fragmented, but it seemed she hadnât exposed herself.
"Strange, on graduation day our dorm drank beer, I could handle six bottles, why did four glasses of red wine knock me down?" Lin Wanwan ruffled her hair in annoyance, while the "cock-a-doodle-do" outside was quite irritating.
The clan only had hens clucking, and roosters which didnât lay eggs werenât welcome.
"Hua Nong, Hua Nong?"
"Hey, my lady, youâre awake?" Hua Nong came in through the inner room door upon hearing and was puzzled by the cluttered clothes, "Whatâs all this?"
Lin Wanwan rubbed her head and asked, "Whereâs the rooster from?"
At this moment Yun Shang and Hong Yan came in carrying toiletries.
Yun Shang smiled and replied, "Mistress, did you forget? Itâs the rooster reserved for this yearâs Qingming Festival."
"Oh." Lin Wanwan recalled, "Go find the chicken outside, weâre having chicken soup for breakfast."
"Oh, sure." Hua Nong curtsied and withdrew.
Yun Shang and Hong Yan came forward to help Lin Wanwan get up. By now, little Qingyu was awake, hugging Lin Wanwanâs waist and refusing to let her get out of bed.
Yun Shang smiled and said, "Little Miss, now that youâre awake, letâs get up; this way you wonât be late today."
"I donât want to be late!" Little Qingyu shivered, letting go of Lin Wanwan, and sat up.
Yun Shang smilingly hugged her and took her to the potty behind the bed, and little Qingyu obediently took care of her business.
Outside, there was suddenly a fluttering sound from the rooster, then silence.
The morning continued in an orderly fashion, with the men of Lin Family Manor heading to the fields or the sea, and the women cooking or washing.
