Chapter 313: Chapter 310: Attending the Wedding
After selling the first batch of three hundred White Feather Chicken chicks, the County Government sold the remaining business to the Zhang Family and the Shi Family.
Although Xiao Chong did not personally handle the White Feather Chicken business, the people still credited it to the Immortal-like Xiao Mingfu.
After all, a County Magistrate who can accurately call out the names of ordinary citizens on the street must hold a different status in their hearts.
Lin Wanwan really admired Xiao Chong, as she still hadnât memorized all the names of people in her own family, yet Xiao Chong knew many names of the ordinary townsfolk. What kind of an extraordinary memory is this?
The common folk thought the White Feathered Divine Chicken appeared out of nowhere in the County Government, but among the gentry and nobility, insiders knew this was the handiwork of the Village Lady of Leâan, who lived in seclusion in Wanghai Village.
The Lady of Leâan had many resources at her disposal, living by the sea, with a Ranger senior brother who came and went without a trace.
Recently, some nobles have started proposing to Lin Wanwan, perhaps because they saw the benefits behind her.
Even though she is an orphan girl, she is a Secondary Fifth Rank Village Lady with family money and mysterious influence. These local gentry of Mao County are not from old prestigious families, so they naturally donât reject her.
Lin Wanwan completely avoids this, firmly expressing her ideology of non-marriage. Itâs a joke to come to the Great Tang for a blind marriage; is she crazy?
Being a wealthy Village Lady is so joyful. Being single doesnât lose happinessâonly impoverished old spinster women become the laughingstock.
Lin Wanwan returns to the modern day, and the time has come for Gu Jingyuâs wedding.
She agreed to be Gu Jingyuâs bridesmaid, so she planned accordingly and drove to Gu Jingyuâs house early.
Before working for Lin Wanwan, Gu Jingyu rented a single apartment downtown for convenience, but after Lin Wanwan recruited her to the new company, it was much closer, so she moved back home.
Her home was in the countryside, not far from the village where Lin Wanwanâs grandparents initially lived, though just outside the demolition area.
The village underwent new rural renovation to unify rural small buildings and yards. Because of this renovation, thereâs no chance for demolition, so hopes of getting rich faded.
Gu Jingyuâs father is a carpenter, her mother works as a clerk at the townâs pharmacy, and Gu Jingyu is the only daughter. Although not extremely wealthy, their overall condition is quite good.
Lin Wanwan arrived at Gu Jingyuâs house before seven oâclock, and guests hadnât filled the place yet, but they set up tables and chairs in the yard, leaving no space to park.
As Lin Wanwan thought about where to park, a warm-hearted aunt approached her and asked, "Young lady, are you here for the wedding feast?"
"Yes."
"Come, come, drive forward a bit more and park in our yard. Donât park on the roadside, or the firecrackers will knock into it later."
"Alright." Lin Wanwan naturally followed the advice and parked.
Gu is a large surname in this village; half of the village are relatives, unlike city neighbors who are all strangers.
Today, as Gu Jingyu is getting married, she is to visit the ancestral hall to pay respects before heading to her husbandâs and returning home to hold a clan feast at her parentsâ.
In the past, girls didnât have to hold clan feasts when marrying. But this generation is mostly single children due to policies, making gender equally vital to families, so now girls hold clan feasts too.
After parking, Lin Wanwan followed the woman who introduced herself as Gu Jingyuâs third aunt into their house.
Gu Jingyuâs mother immediately recognized Lin Wanwan, warmly invited her upstairs, and told her Gu Jingyu had just returned from the bridal shop getting her makeup done and was resting upstairs.
Being her daughterâs only close friend and such a pretty girl, now also her daughterâs boss, her mother naturally remembered her well.
Lin Wanwan smiled and passed through the offering table in the ground floor lobby, heading to the second floor to find Gu Jingyuâs room.
Inside were Gu Jingyu and her two cousins, both married, so they couldnât be bridesmaids. Thus, Lin Wanwan was the only bridesmaid today.
Seeing Lin Wanwan come in, Gu Jingyu happily exclaimed, "Wanwan, youâre here! Hereâs the bridesmaid dress. Please change into it; itâs going to be a busy day for you."
Lin Wanwan congratulated her warmly, then took the bridesmaid dress to the bathroom to change.
The bridesmaid dress was a purple one-shoulder mini gown, a Taobao knockoff of a celebrity bridesmaid dress. Despite its rough craftsmanship and cheap fabric, it looked ethereal on Lin Wanwan.
Some people just look good even with a curtain draped over them.
Lin Wanwan sported a very simple light makeup look and a typical half-up hairstyleâto be a proper bridesmaid that wouldnât steal the brideâs spotlight.
After changing, she picked up her mobile and took a few photos of Gu Jingyu, then curiously asked, "Why havenât I seen the photographer following you? Havenât they arrived yet?"
Gu Jingyu wore a broad smile all day and replied, "They are at his house to film the departure of the wedding convoy and will follow the main wedding car here."
"Oh, I see." Lin Wanwan understood, then complimented, "You look beautiful in your wedding dress today, the most beautiful bride in Yongcheng."
Gu Jingyu sweetly smiled, "Youâll look even more beautiful on your wedding day."
"Ha, I wonât marry, you know that." Lin Wanwan said with a laugh.
Gu Jingyuâs cousin laughed, "What do you mean you wonât marry? How could a woman not marry when the time comes? Are you her classmate or friend?"
Lin Wanwan and Gu Jingyu replied together: "Classmate and friend."
"Classmate? Are you the same age then?"
"Yes."
Gu Jingyuâs cousin continued, "Then youâre 25 (counted in rural tradition), not young. Still donât have someone?"
Lin Wanwan calmly smiled, "Yes, Iâm still single."
"Still looking, huh? You must have high standards or youâre too picky." Gu Jingyuâs cousin eyed Lin Wanwan with curiosity. "Girls should find someone while young and attractiveâlater youâll be picked rather than being the one who picks."
Gu Jingyu interrupted her cousin laughing, "Our Wanwan has many admirers, lining up from here to France, cousin, you donât need to worry for her."
"Hahaha, I was just saying." The cousin laughed awkwardly.
"Are you really a non-marriage advocate? Never been in a relationship?" Gu Jingyuâs younger cousin couldnât help but inquire, undoubtedly curious about Lin Wanwan, a beauty.
Lin Wanwan replied good-naturedly, "Never. I have no intention of marrying at allâmarriage sounds exhausting. So, tell me, Xiao Yu, what time did you get up today? Been busy ever since?"
Gu Jingyu promptly replied, "Yes, my uncle woke me at 2:30 to worship the Buddha. You saw the offerings in the lobby downstairs, right? When the tide rises, Iâll worship, then go to the ancestral hall to pay respects. So much to do!"
