Chapter 644: Chapter 642: Candid Confessions
The two closed the courtyard gate and walked toward Lu Shouyueâs car. Both had their own thoughts, remaining silent without idle chat along the way.
Upon entering Lu Shouyueâs building floor, Lin Wanwan noticed that the layout here had changed.
Previously, it was a one-apartment-per-floor design, with the shared hallway separated by hollow wooden screens.
But now, the partitions in the hallway had been dismantled. After the two bodyguards of Lu Shouyue said goodbye, they entered the unit across the door.
As Lu Shouyue unlocked the door with his fingerprint, Lin Wanwan casually asked, "Mr. Lu, did you buy the west suite too?"
Lu Shouyue replied, "I bought the entire floor initially, but hadnât opened it up, so it remained empty."
"Oh~," Lin Wanwan said, impressed by the ostentatious gesture.
The door opened, and they both entered.
This was Lin Wanwanâs third visit to Lu Shouyueâs home, and with things weighing on her mind, she wasnât in the mood to appreciate the decor.
Lu Shouyue poured two glasses of warm water and brought them over, "Wanwan, have some water."
"Thank you."
Lin Wanwan thanked him and took the glass, sitting on the small sofa, while Lu Shouyue sat on the main sofa to her right.
Lin Wanwan took the lead, "Mr. Lu, I heard from Lawyer Tan that two thugs came to my house today and you caught one?"
"Yes, as I left, I saw a deliveryman carrying a hiking bag, which seemed very odd, so I quickly turned back."
Seeing that Lu Shouyue didnât ask where she went after stabbing the thug with a sword, Lin Wanwan didnât mention it for the time being and continued, "Uh, Mr. Lu, did you see Fugui at my home?"
Lu Shouyue said, "Oh, Fugui got shot. Iâve sent someone to the pet hospital for rescue. The veterinarian called me, saying theyâve removed the bullet. As long as he survives tonight, heâll be fine. You can relax."
Upon hearing the good news about Fugui, the German Shepherd, Lin Wanwan lightly sighed in relief, "Thatâs great, thank you, Mr. Lu. Oh, by the way, you mentioned there was something else you wanted to discuss, what is it?"
Lu Shouyue paused, then slowly said, "Do you remember previously in the Ancient City, when we went out and encountered two pit bulls attacking you?"
"I remember, why, is there a follow-up?"
"Yes, that incident wasnât just an accident. Those pit bulls were actually trained by a group of thugs targeting you, but the woman walking them wasnât aware, which exposed them prematurely."
At this point, Lu Shouyueâs face showed a hint of guilt and unease, as he apologized to Lin Wanwan, "I was too self-righteous and should have told you sooner to let you have some precautions. Iâm sorry."
Lin Wanwan was astonished upon hearing this for the first time! Were there seriously two vicious dogs raised near her rented courtyard in the Ancient City just to deal with her?
Is this for real? She thought she was living in a peaceful place like Huaxia, yet such incidents happened right around her!
"Mr. Lu, you mean the armed intruders at my house tonight followed me from the Ancient City, having been targeting me for a long time?"
Lu Shouyue nodded, "Yes, itâs all my fault for not telling you earlier. After the odd incident with the dogs attacking you, I ordered an investigation with the police and pursued legal action. The police traced the perpetrators, discovering a kidnapping plan targeting you."
Lin Wanwan couldnât help interrupting Lu Shouyue, "A kidnapping plan targeting me? What? I wasnât in the Ancient City for long, and I havenât offended anyone."
Lu Shouyue looked at her, "Remember when you made some transactions in the Ancient Cityâs antique circles involving Tang Dynasty Porcelain?"
Lin Wanwan opened her mouth slightly, "Is it the people from that antique shop who wanted to kidnap me?"
Lu Shouyue shook his head, "No, the shop owner is merely a middleman, and though he deals in gray-area business, heâs not that insane. The people he deals with got hold of information about you and developed malicious intent."
Lin Wanwan gasped, full of regret, "I never thought something like this would happen in Huaxia! I was too careless, so foolish."
Lu Shouyue comforted, "Itâs not your fault, the mindset of criminals is never on the same level as normal people, itâs not surprising that you didnât know."

Lin Wanwan sighed, "Mr. Lu, stop comforting me. Ultimately, it was my own carelessness to casually dive into unfamiliar antique markets. I should have realized that dealing in these is risky."
Lu Shouyue looked at her warmly, half-joking, "That was just your bad luck, not finding legitimate and compliant stores. In the future, if you want to sell something, just give it to me - why let others do the business? Is there something wrong with my Buzhou Studioâs service?"
Lin Wanwan sheepishly touched her nose, "No, no, it was mainly that I found it by chance in the Ancient City and wanted to sell it nearby. Besides, it wasnât anything good, it had a large surviving amount and didnât sell for a good price."
Hearing Lin Wanwanâs random story, Lu Shouyue showed a half-smiling expression, "Oh~ Wanwan usually has good luck, great at finding deals."
"Haha, haha," Lin Wanwan replied with an awkward yet polite smile.
Lu Shouyue continued, "Should I continue?"
Lin Wanwan nodded, "Mm-hmm, Mr. Lu, please continue, what happened to those people after?"
Lu Shouyue said, "After the police discovered their kidnapping plan, I provided additional evidence of their dealing in underground artifacts to the police. They then carried out a raid and captured them, but unfortunately, one grave robber slipped through.
I was overly arrogant, thinking I could resolve the matter quietly, thus didnât inform you in time. Once back in Yongcheng, I relaxed, giving them the opportunity.
Wanwan, Iâm sorry for putting you in such a dangerous situation, blame me."
Upon realizing how much Lu Shouyue had done for her behind the scenes, Lin Wanwan was overwhelmed with gratitude, unable to blame him.
She awkwardly took a sip of water, alleviating the tension, then said, "Mr. Lu, what kind of unreasonable person do you think I am? You were trying to help me."
Lu Shouyue looked deeply into Lin Wanwanâs eyes, seriously, "Wanwan, this whole thing was my fault. I promise you that if anything similar happens in the future, Iâll never keep it from you."
"Mr. Lu, you keep blaming yourself, which makes me feel awkward."
After discussing this matter, the two stayed silent for a moment, each quietly drinking water.
Moments later, Lu Shouyue suddenly said, "Wanwan, when I returned to look for you, I saw you suddenly disappear from the room."
"Cough, cough, cough..."
Lin Wanwan was so startled by Lu Shouyueâs unexpected words that she choked on her water and couldnât stop coughing.
Is her cover blown so completely today? Not only in front of Xiao Chong but also witnessed during the crossing process by Lu Shouyue?
