Chapter 1164: Rewards (1)
[Wheel of Fortune (???)]
[The foundation of a warrior is their strongest asset and their greatest boon. But often, oneâs starting position is their limiting factor. Regardless of how great you can become in the future, any mistake made here will inevitably rock your chances of growing to your true potential.
[Many take this to be unfair and curse the world, claiming that they would be better if they were just given a better chance. Is that you?
[Prove it.]
â
Sylas stared at the description for a while. Originally, he had dismissed it, but after feeling out his Will, he couldnât help but narrow his eyes.
Once again, the description felt almost too vague and quite useless. But Sylas had his own abilities to see through certain things at this point, especially when they relied so heavily on F-Grade Runes to function as well.
This treasureâŠ
There was a flash of light, and it was pulled out from a mysterious realm that stored his treasures. This was probably where the All-Seeing Eye had deposited everything before it vanished.
When the flash of light faded, there was a jet-black sundial the size of Sylasâs palm that slowly fell into it. Its ticks were a bright gold, and its heft was quite⊠something. It felt like he was holding a world up.
The sundial was heavy to the point veins bulged around Sylasâs arm, but what was odd was that Sylas had found himself catching it almost casually.
âItâs adjusting to my power output, forcing me to strain to my limits depending on muscle activation. It borders on the edge of something casual and something very much notâalmost like itâs teasing me, testing me, trying to push against my boundaries and see what makes me⊠tick.â
A flood of insight entered Sylasâs mind. He was no longer just analyzing Runes based on their logic, but he found himself subconsciously trying to grasp the âhumanâ elements of them.
He found that anthropomorphizing Runes actually not only made them far easier to control, but also far easier to grasp and comprehend. In addition, with his True Pride Seed and his evolved eyes, although he couldnât control them as easily, Sylas found that observing E-Grade Runes wasnât a problem at all anymore.
Of course, in the past, he could even see D-Grade Runes and take control of them under the right circumstances. But he had never felt as comfortable with Runes above F-Grade as he did right now.
At least in terms of observation, there was no longer a dividing line between Sylas and the E-Grade currently. Though⊠that might also be heavily related to the elevation of his Runeweaver Profession as well.
âIâm certain. This treasureâŠâ
The teasing tone in the description and Sylasâs feelings seemed to point toward one thing.
This so-called Wheel of Fortune would force Sylas to put his money where his mouth was. If he really believed he was so much better than everyone else around himâŠ
Then prove it.
It sounded complex, but this Wheel of Fortune only really did one thing. It could take from E-Grade, D-Grades, and maybe even higher, and convert them down to something Sylasâs F-Grade Foundation could absorb.
Essentially, the Wheel of Fortune was a chance for him to access pillars of the F-Grade his current surroundings wouldnât allow him to. This was a chance for him to make use of his so-called talentâas this Treasure would likely call itâand make something better of himself.
âWhat would it take to flesh out the full details of this Treasure?â Sylas asked.
âMm. An F-Grade Wheel of Fortune. Not bad, not bad. You should know that itâs very strict with its requirements. It wonât allow you to use the hands of others to kill for you, and it will only recognize kills that you have the majority of credit for. In fact, youâll need about 80% of the credit for it to register and absorb your target.â
âThatâs not a problem,â Sylas said calmly.
âI wouldnât be so self-assured if I were you. That D-Grade Sylph you killed probably wouldnât be enough for 80%.â
Sylas paused for a moment, calculated some things, then understood where the sticking point was.
In order to lure Cenk in, he had relied on Nosphaleenâs father to bring him into the region he needed. In addition, a lot of Cenkâs actions were restricted because he was afraid of triggering the anger of the world, not to mention the fact that Sylas didnât build the dungeon he had so heavily relied on the Runes of to deal the final blow.
If Sylas was being quite brutal in his assessment, he probably deserved only about 40% or so of the credit.
Of course, that was still the majority, because more than one Sylph had worked on building the dungeon, and there were countless Clypsians involved in evolving the Frost Bane World into what it was made into.
But it still wasnât enough for the Wheel of Fortune to allow him to absorb Cenkâs Foundation to bolster his own.
âOkay. I understand.â
He would just have to be twice as good. Hardly an issue at all. He felt that he still had far more room to improve, and he had only decided to deal with that D-Grade on a whim. If he had more time to prepareâŠ
He would do just fine.
The little girl didnât make fun of Sylas this time, though she was still a bit annoyed. Where was the despair? He was so confident before, but also so confident now. Where was the character development?
She wanted a refund.
âWheel of Fortunes are quite rare Treasuresâbut theyâre also limited-use and not permanent, so that mitigates things somewhat. They also have a good way of⊠adjusting themselves,â she seemed to pick the words carefully so she didnât give too much away. âIf you want to know everything about them, it wonât cost you too much with the discounts. Just 10 Silver Genes will do.â
Sylas shook his head. He remembered a time when 10 Silver Genes would bankrupt him. Now he had over tens of thousands of them in his body and still didnât feel satisfied thanks to his new D-Grade Race status.
He paid.
