The carriage began to move smoothly as the wheels rattled over the cobblestone path leading out of the castle grounds.
Freya sat directly beside him, pressing her thigh lightly against his.
She leaned her head against his shoulder without asking, "You look tense."
Brandon turned his head slightly toward her, "Miss Freya-"
But before he could speak any further, Freya lifted her hand and gently pressed a single finger against his lips.
"Just call me by my name. Drop the honorifics."
She traced the line of his lower lip with the pad of her finger in a slow, teasing caress.
"I think weāve moved past formalities, donāt you?"
"Freya."
A satisfied smile bloomed across her face, and she slowly lowered her finger from his lips, only to trail it down along his jawline instead.
"There. Wasnāt so hard, was it?" She shifted closer, her full breasts pressing more firmly against his arm as she tilted her head. "Say it again."
Brandon let out a chuckle, shaking his head.
*thud* The carriage hit a gentle bump in the road, causing her body to press even more intimately against his for a brief second.
Freya didnāt pull away. If anything, she used the movement as an excuse to settle even closer, her hand now resting boldly on his chest.
Brandon exhaled slowly, his arm draped over the back of the seat behind her.
She laughed softly "Tell me honestly, does it bother you? My teasing? My... forwardness?"
"Oh, if itās about Amelia, Iām not trying to steal you from her."
"Amelia is precious to me. If she wants you... I want her to have you. But I also want a piece of that happiness for myself. Is that so wrong?"
Looking into her eyes, he replied "Itās not wrong, just strange."
He gently took her hand and spoke, "Freya, if you are pushing yourself to make you like me just because of that promise... then you donāt have to."
Freya blinked, clearly taken aback, and the playful, seductive smile on her lips faltered for a moment.
"You think Iām forcing myself?" she asked quietly, looking at his face.
Brandon gave a small nod, his thumb gently stroking the back of her hand "Iāve seen how much you love Amelia. How protective you are of her."
"If this is just you trying to honor an old promise she made as a child... then I donāt want you to feel obligated. Iām not going to hold you to something said by a scared seventeen-year-old girl."
Freya stayed silent for a moment.
Then she let out a soft, almost self-deprecating laugh and leaned her forehead against his shoulder.
"You really are different from others, Kael."
She lifted her head again, "I wonāt lie and say the promise had nothing to do with it. When Amelia came back last night looking so radiant... it reminded me of that silly little promise we made years ago. And yes, part of me wanted to tease her, to see how she would react."
Freyaās voice grew softer, "But thatās not the only reason Iām here. Iām not pushing myself. Iām... curious. Interested. Attracted, even."
She gave his hand a gentle squeeze. "Youāre strong and a kind man. You treat Amelia like a person and not like a princess to be married off for political gain."
"And the letters you sent her... even though you donāt need to, they are so thoughtful. How could I not be intrigued by a man like that?"
She shifted slightly so she could face him more directly, her full breasts brushing against his arm.
"Iāve lived a long time watching men chase power, status, or my body. Youāre different. I am attracted to this kind and beautiful Kael I met in the castle."
Freya leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to his cheek "So no, Kael. Iām not here solely because of a childish promise. Iām here because I want to be. I want to know the man who made my niece so happy... and because I think I might like him too."
"Do not worry that I am forcing myself, I am with you here because of my own choice... and I like you a lot."
She pulled back just enough to look into his eyes, "But if youāre uncomfortable with any of this, just say the word. Iāll behave."
She winked. "Mostly."
Brandon sat there speechless for a second looking at her face.
He could see the sincerity behind the teasing and her real affection.
Letting out a soft breath, she squeezed her hand back "Iām not uncomfortable. Just... trying to navigate all of this carefully. I care about Amelia. And I donāt want to hurt her."
Freyaās expression softened further.
She rested her head on his shoulder again, more naturally this time "I know. And I would never do anything to hurt her either. If this becomes something more... weāll talk to her together. Sheās a grown woman now. She can make her own choices."
The carriage continued onward toward the secluded lake as the two of them sat close together in a surprisingly comfortable silence.
Freya eventually broke the silence with a soft, teasing whisper "So, does this mean I still have permission to seduce you a little?"
Brandon chuckled and wrapped his arm more securely around her shoulders.
"Just a little."
Freyaās smile widened with satisfaction as she snuggled closer, clearly pleased with the small victory.
---
The carriage continued its gentle journey along the winding road, the soft clop of the horsesā hooves and the occasional creak of the wheels creating a soothing rhythm.
She tilted her head up to look at him, "If we ever got married, will my name be Freya Kael? What is your family name? Or is your name just Kael?"
Brandon glanced down at her, momentarily surprised by the casual way she tossed out the idea of marriage "My name is Brandon Kael,"
Freyaās eyebrows rose slightly, "Brandon Kael, Freya Kael... It has a nice ring to it, donāt you think?"
He let out a quiet chuckle "It does."
---
The carriage gradually slowed to a stop as the wheels rolled onto soft grass near the edge of a lake.
Freya glanced out the window with a satisfied smile, then leaned forward and knocked lightly on the front panel of the carriage.
"You may leave us here. Return at sunset to pick us up."
The driverās voice came back respectfully. "As you wish, Lady Freya."
The carriage door opened. Freya stepped out first and extended her hand toward Brandon.
"Come, Kael."
Brandon took her hand and stepped down beside her. The driver gave a polite bow, then turned the carriage around and drove off, leaving them completely alone.
The moment the carriage disappeared down the path, Freya let out a soft, contented sigh.
She stretched her arms above her head, arching her back in a way that accentuated her full figure even more.
"Ah... finally. No eyes watching us. No servants. No nosy niece." She turned to him with a playful smile. "Just you and me for the next few hours."
The lake was stunning, surrounded by soft grass and wildflowers.
A large, flat rock sat near the waterās edge, perfect for sitting or lying down.
Freya walked a few steps ahead, then turned back to face him.
"I come here sometimes when I want to escape the castle. The perfect place to forget about royal duties for a while."
She stepped closer to him, "What would you like to do with these precious hours alone with me?"
