On the circular tier just below, Zhang Yi observed thirty-six silver seats.

From top to bottom, the tiers were, in order: Golden Thrones, Silver Thrones, Bronze Thrones, Black Iron Thrones, and Wooden Seats.
One could easily discern the hierarchy of the seats—from their color, their size, and their grandeur—which clearly decreased from top to bottom.
Looking at the number of seats, Zhang Yi made a deduction.
