Chapter 2116  Faction Selection

Sandy was stunned and asked, “What ancient tree? What did you say?”

Glennan took a deep breath and suppressed the wrath in his heart. He pointed at a certain place in the depths of the cave.

“There used to be a withered ancient tree there. Mr. Yule told us that this withered tree was once a branch of the sacred tree that guarded the tree spirit race. It was also the evidence of the tree spirit race’s existence.”

“The sacred tree once blessed this land, but now, the branches of the ancient tree have completely withered and become like this.”

Fang Heng narrowed his eyes and looked in the direction Glennan was pointing at.

There, a three-meter-tall withered tree stood.

The leaves had long withered, leaving only a bare trunk and a few withered branches.

They had long lost their vitality.

At this moment, a large number of wires of various colors were wrapped around the branches of the withered tree-like tentacles.

Fang Heng frowned, feeling suspicious.

It seemed that OmniTech Company was carrying out some kind of special detection on the ancient tree.

The game hint appeared on his retina.

[Hint: The player’s current mission completion rate has increased to 45%.]

[Hint (triggered by special reward): The player has completed the lowest level mission submission limit. Due to the high difficulty of the mission, it is recommended to retreat immediately.]

Fang Heng glanced at the suggestions given by the game.

It was only 45% and the game was already suggesting to end it?

Not accepted!

Fang Heng continued to observe the situation below.

It seemed that the researchers of OmniTech Company were very interested in this withered tree. All the experimental equipment was built around the ancient tree.

So what were they going to do?

As he was thinking, Fang Heng noticed a group of people walking toward the entrance of the cave.

The middle-aged man in the lead stopped in his tracks.

Everyone raised their heads and looked at the entrance where they were.

The dozen or so guards following behind him immediately stopped and stood around him in a vigilant position.

“Hehe, intruders…I was a little surprised when I received a report of suspected hacking. I didn’t expect someone to actually infiltrate into OmniTech Company. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen someone interesting.”

“It seems that you guys aren’t tree spirits, right? Are you from the Tree Whisperers Alliance? I knew you would come, but I didn’t expect you to come in this manner.”

The middle-aged man looked up at the cliff with a gentle and elegant smile on his face, “Let me introduce myself first. I’m Ji Haiting, the executive director of OmniTech Company. I haven’t had the chance to have a good talk with you. I think there might be a big misunderstanding between us. In fact, OmniTech Company is very willing to cooperate with you.”

“After all, we all live in the same world, don’t we?”

Fang Heng and the others, who were hiding on top of the high cliff, looked at each other.

Mo Jiawei asked, “Fang Heng, it seems like we’ve been discovered, what should we do?”

“I’ll go and talk to him. You guys stay here just to be on the cautious side.”

Cleriway whispered, “Brother Fang Heng, I also want to go down and take a look. I sense some nature-related aura fluctuations coming from that withered tree.”

“Hmm, alright, follow me and be careful.”

With that, Fang Heng stood up straight from the cliffside, revealing himself, and leaped down toward the bottom of the cliff.

Cleriway followed behind Fang Heng, slowly floating down from mid-air.

As Fang Heng landed, the guards behind Ji Haiting cast wary glances at him.

The guards immediately raised their weapons, aiming at Fang Heng, while the researchers around quickly retreated to the side.

Unlike the external security personnel, the group of guards gathered around Ji Haiting wore uniforms with a consistent style, but they didn’t carry any weapons.

Fang Heng glanced at this group of guards before turning his attention elsewhere.

These people’s clothes were a little strange.

It looked like a one-piece outfit with streamlined lines. There was a diamond-shaped crystal pattern slightly above the center of the abdomen.

It was very strange.

No matter how he looked at it, it didn’t look fashionable, and it didn’t match the clothes of ordinary security guards.

“Don’t be so nervous. We’re just going to talk.”

Ji Haiting gently raised his hand, signaling the guards behind him to put down their guns. He continued to look at Fang Heng and said, “Thank you for your trust. We will also show our sincerity.”

[Hint: The player’s charm has taken effect. The player has obtained additional initial friendliness from Ji Haiting.]

Fang Heng looked at the game hint and could not help but complain in his heart.

Instead of gaining the friendliness of the Tree Whisperers Alliance, he gained the favorable impression of the enemy?

What was going on?

Fang Heng stared at Ji Haiting and asked, “OmniTech Company? What are you doing here?”

“As you can see, we’re doing some basic scientific research. In fact, in recent years, our OmniTech Company has been conducting research on the tree spirits, and we’ve more or less made some insignificant breakthroughs. At present, we’re analyzing and simulating the seeds of the source of power we found, and we’ve locked onto an area with similar power…”

“After that, it was much simpler. We hired a scientific research team and an exploration team to search the vicinity of the marked area and quickly found the ruins.”

Ji Haiting spread his hands and said, “Well, according to what you said, we are all here to find the tree spirits and the ancient sacred tree.”

Fang Heng’s heart skipped a beat when he heard that. He looked at the ancient tree in the depths of the cave behind Ji Haiting.

“Ancient sacred tree? Is that it?”

“It? No, of course not.” Ji Haiting shook his head and replied, “It’s nothing compared to the ancient sacred tree. It has already withered. But we’ve confirmed that it does have something to do with the ancient sacred tree.”

Fang Heng raised his head and pouted in the direction of the withered ancient tree, “Since it’s already withered, what are you still doing to it?”

Ji Haiting calmly explained, “We are conducting tests to assess the vitality of the withered ancient tree. We aim to fully revive the ancient tree. Would you be interested in cooperating with us? Perhaps we could work together?”

[Hint: The player triggered side mission-Collaboration invitation.]

Mission name: Collaboration invitation.

Mission difficulty: D (Decision-making mission).

Mission description: OmniTech Company has extended a collaboration invitation to you to explore the secrets of the ancient sacred tree. If the player accepts the invitation, it will interrupt the mission line of the Tree Whisperers Alliance and reset all contribution points, reputation points, etc. associated with the Tree Whisperers Alliance, and it will affect the friendship level with certain characters.

[Hint (triggered by early special rewards): It is recommended that the player choose to collaborate with the Tree Whisperers Alliance. Choosing this mission line will significantly shorten the progress and overall mission difficulty.]

Fang Heng glanced at the mission hint.

A faction selection decision-making mission.

He no longer needed to hesitate.

The game had provided a clear indication.
