As soon as Spiritâs assassin necromancer was dealt with by Wang Zhifan, his fate was almost sealed for an ending.
As a mage player, he wasnât skilled in quick movements at all, and his physical stamina couldnât compare to Wang Zhifanâs. So, in the subsequent time, the mage youth, realizing that his greatest hope had already vanished, gradually became hysterical.
Not only did he begin to manipulate the female gunnerâs necromancer to shoot aimlessly behind him, trying to prevent Wang Zhifan from catching up, but he also had his audio zombie slap the speaker again to cast the "Mass Zombie Coming" skill, presumably hoping to rely on the gathered zombies to block the advancing Wang Zhifan.
But these responses were obviously futile. The female gunnerâs shooting was always within Wang Zhifanâs Dream Vision, which he could easily avoid. Gathering zombies was even laughable, as Wang Zhifan had the Chapter of Obscurity, which allowed him to completely ignore ordinary zombies. His skills and speed had long surpassed ordinary peopleâs imagination; he could pass through the mageâs position before the nearby zombies could gather.
Thus, as the mage youth, having exhausted his stamina, dashed down a tall building under the protection of several ordinary necromancer guards and hid in a room about a hundred meters away, he saw from the window the Corpse Kingâs direction still heading straight towards his current position, leaving him psychologically collapsed. Yet, he had no choice but to leave the room and keep running in hopes of maximizing his chances of survival.
But after about ten more minutes of this, the stamina of the mage player was nearing its limit. He still ran desperately, but his speed had decreased to a very dangerous level. The outside Corpse King was getting closer to his position, and he even started to hear the increasingly louder crashing sounds of the Corpse King destroying the concrete around him, to the point that it started hurting his ears.
"Why! Why canât I escape at all!"
The mage youth felt utterly desperate at this moment. He was very aware that the person he targeted was trying to rely on the outside Corpse King to kill him. He had to quickly escape the path of the Corpse Kingâs advance. It should have been simple, as long as he saw the Corpse Kingâs direction clearly and dodged to the side, everything would be fine. But bizarrely, the youth seemed to know his location at every moment, constantly adjusting his position to guide the Corpse Kingâs advance, making it impossible for him to escape the path of destruction, remaining in constant flight.
He even became so desperate that he wanted to use all his necromancer puppets to block the more obvious target, the Corpse King, rather than dealing with Wang Zhifan, who couldnât be caught or located. The constantly approaching pressure of death was driving him to the brink of madness.
But often, desperation is terrifying, arriving with such ferocity that it leaves little room for maneuver. When the mage youth heard increasingly deafening roars from behind, the ground underfoot shook violently, and the surrounding areas saw pieces of debris falling like hail from the sky, he dashed out of his current room onto the street, trying to evade the approaching death god. But in the end, his speed and stamina were at their limits, and his silhouette was quickly engulfed in the destructive path of the giant Corpse King advancing from behind.
"He should be dead...he was instantly shredded into pieces by the approaching Corpse King. The Corpse King probably didnât even notice that its advancing aftermath killed a player."
At this moment, Wang Zhifan, hiding in a building about fifty meters ahead of the Corpse King, had already seen the mage youthâs instant obliteration through his Dream Vision, specifically tracking his target. Confirming he had completed his revenge, he continued his escape, quickly fleeing from the room to the nearby street. In such a street environment, better suited for running, he continued to lead the terrifying Corpse King, locked onto him, on a chase.
With the example of the mage youthâs instant demise, Wang Zhifan was no longer considering how to deal with the massive beast pursuing him. He only intended to endure until the instance ended, becoming a thorough instance runner.
Thus, as nightfall descended, Wang Zhifan, drenched in sweat while fleeing in Zombie City, braced himself to withstand the final and toughest hours.
At this moment, he was in fact quite exhausted, having expended a significant amount of stamina chasing the mage boy not long ago. Still, he firmly believed he could endure until the instance ended, because, at present, he was merely tired and hadnât reached the point of physical exhaustion. In the instance, he could push his body without concern, even to the point of coughing up blood, for as long as he could persevere until the instanceâs conclusion, any physical damage would be fully restored, which was the assurance that gave him the confidence to keep running to the end.
However, contrary to Wang Zhifanâs determined thoughts, as night fully fell and the bright moon appeared in the sky, the Corpse King which had pursued him all day suddenly stopped chasing him relentlessly and quickly burrowed into the cityâs underground, becoming silent.
At first, Wang Zhifan thought this Corpse King was playing dirty, attempting to track and ambush him from below, so he continued to run, constantly distancing himself from the spot where the Corpse King burrowed into the ground.
But later, after he reached an overpass area and deliberately paused on the elevated bridge for a while, he found that the Corpse King still hadnât emerged from the ground to ambush him, so he simply began to rest there, recuperating his already very tired body.
It was during this time, standing at a height, that he observed several Corpse King Layer presences rampaging in the moonlit city.
Among them was a slender zombie towering over a hundred meters tall, manipulating the nearby buildings like toys. There was also a flying giant corpse with multiple heads and wings, spiraling the cityâs sky, breathing fire and poison gas towards the ground below, causing widespread fires and toxic fog. A unique sound-emitting zombie was present as well, relatively small and too far for Wang Zhifan to see clearly, but wherever it went, all ordinary zombiesâ sizes would grow several times larger and enter a berserk state. Many berserk zombies, unable to find a target, began to slaughter each other, sparking internal wars among previously united zombie groups.
These rampaging Corpse King Layer presences, in addition to the one that initially attacked Wang Zhifan and disappeared into the ground, numbered five in total. Their activity in this final night imposed tremendous pressure on all surviving players, with an estimated at least half struggling to endure and consequently succumbing to death for various reasons. However, all of this wasnât much of a concern to Wang Zhifan, as he found himself rather relieved this last night. No second Corpse King sought trouble with him, so he relaxed, staying hidden in the corner.
