Chapter 830: Quite Observant
Aldo Wagner!
So thatâs the founderâs name, Adam thought to himself, feeling slightly taken aback.
He looked at the elderly Magus with an inquisitive gaze and couldnât help but ask, âMy Lord, just how were you, or rather the Brotherhood, able to find out about the founderâs origins?â
âBoy, our organization is over three thousand years old,â the elderly Magus began. âThat is more than enough time to learn about the founderâs true origins, no matter how small the clues might be.â
Adamâs eyes flashed with a peculiar light.
Great! I finally have a timeline I can work on, he thought.
He then thought of something and asked, âIf the organization is so old, why could it not be able to decipher the journals left behind by Lord Wagner?â
The elderly Magus shook his head, sighing in defeat, âDeciphering a language one knows nothing about is a near-impossible task.
âIt is like staring at the bones of a once-forgotten beast and trying to guess how it once breathed, walked, or spoke.
âWithout context, grammar, or even a hint of shared symbols, every character becomes a mystery, and every word a riddle.
âYou donât know whatâs a noun, whatâs a verb, or whether what youâre reading is even meant to be read from left to right. It is simply blind exploration.â
Adam felt like what he said made a lot of sense. He also thought of another critical matter and voiced it, âMy Lord, I believe⊠divination magic resulted in failure?â
The elderly man nodded. âPerhaps, Lord Wagner thought that his journals might one day fall into the wrong hands someday, so he left anti-divination arrangements.â
âIf so, then how are we, the members of the Brotherhood, supposed to decipher whatâs written in those journals?â
Adam couldnât help but frown.
âThat is a question I keep asking myself,â the elderly man revealed a wry smile. âPerhaps, Lord Wagner never intended anyone to read those journals. Perhaps, their contents were deeply personal. But you know how we Magi areâdriven by endless curiosity.â
The frown on Adamâs face deepened.
I admit that some of the journal entries were deeply personal to the founder, he thought.
But there were several other entries that spoke about Myrrandor and even hinted at the moon containing a secret to venturing into the Greater UniverseâŠ
So then why would the founder not want others to know?
This made him think of another important matter.
He speculated that the Mana Core Magi of the Twilight Brotherhood, or perhaps the entire planet, were aware of the existence of magical civilizations in the Greater Universe, butâŠ
They did not know of a way to leave Tron!
There was only one way to confirm his speculation. He looked at the elderly man and displayed an innocent expression, âMy Lord, if the Brotherhood knows of the existence of magical civilizations in the Great Universeââ
âGreater Universe,â the old man corrected him.
âAh, yes, apologies.â Adam scratched the back of his head awkwardly. âIf the organization knows of the magical civilizations in the Greater Universe, then surely it must also know of a way to travel there?â
The elderly Magus remained silent for a long time. With each second that passed, Adam grew more and more confident in his speculation.
Finally, the old manâs answer confirmed his thoughts.
âThe knowledge of how to traverse to the Greater Universe has long been lost to the ravages of time.â
Even though he had already expected it, it still came as a great shock to Adam.
Why would the founder not tell his people the way to travel to the Greater Universe?
This means theyâre absolutely clueless about the portal on Luna, Adam thought incredulously.
But he still couldnât understand why the founder would gatekeep this information.
Perhaps, there was something that Adam was unaware of? Something he had looked over?
He couldnât tell.
The elderly manâs words drifted into his ears, jolting him out of his thoughts, âWhy else do you think we have been so lenient in handing over Lord Wagnerâs journals to you all this while?â
ââŠYou were hoping I would decipher the contents,â Adam answered in a daze.
The elderly man nodded. âNot just you. Any Agent who requests to study the journals is granted access. Generations of Magi before you have tried and failed to decipher them. All we can do now is hope that one of you younglings succeeds.â
The elderly man displayed a bitter smile, and Adam knew what that meant.
Although the man was standing at the peak of magic in Tron, he was nearing the end of his life.
One day in the future, he would die knowing that there were higher peaks to climb, but he was unable to.
Such was the tragedy of all Mana Core Magi of Tron.
Adamâs heart stirred and he almost wanted to tell the man about the portal on the moon.
No, not now.
Now is not the time.
I must be patient, he thought to himself.
Wait a minuteâŠ
Adam suddenly thought of something else and secretly glanced at the elderly man.
If knowledge about anything related to the Greater Universe is so sought after, then how come he believed me when I lied about the things I received in the inheritance?
Adamâs heart turned cold when he thought about it.
Thereâs only one reason⊠It has to be!
âMy Lord, youâŠâ he called out softly. âDid you use enchantment magic on me again?â
The elderly manâs lips curled into a faint smirk. He replied without even turning to the youth, âOh, what gave it away?â
This bastard!
I was right not to trust you, Adam screamed inwardly.
âJust a feeling,â he said.
The elderly Magus chuckled, âYou are quite observant, boy. Perhaps a bit too observant for your own good.â
Adam could only awkwardly laugh, âWell, now you know I wasnât lying.â
But inwardly, his heart turned cold. It was only at that moment did he realize the true terror of a Mana Core Magus.
The man had cast a spell on him without him even knowing it!
If it wasnât for the white lotus, Adam would have already spilled everything.
But thanks to this encounter, he also got to know more about the lotusâs capabilities.
It can protect my mind from the effects of magic from the School of Enchantment, he thought in shock. Even if the spell is cast by someone more powerful than me!
I already knew the white lotus helps me see through illusions.
But thisâŠ
I have a strong feeling the white lotus grants me immunity to all forms of spell from the spiritual aspect of magic!
