Chapter 893: Discreet
Constantine Estate, Uptown Quarter.
A black carriage rolled down the street past the estateās main entrance.
When Adam, seated inside, saw the sheer number of people gathered outside the gates, a look of bewilderment crossed his face.
āWhat theā¦ā He was stunned.
There had to be at least more than a hundred people gathered in front of his gates. Additionally, there were also some people standing on the other side of the street.
āDonāt tell meā¦ā Adam muttered, quickly drawing the curtains shut. āAre they all here for me?ā
Raidon was sitting across from the youth inside the carriage. He looked at Adamās startled expression and couldnāt help but feel amused.
āThat is correct, my lord,ā he said. āTheyāve been gathering in front of the gates for some time now.ā
He paused, thinking of something, before adding, āAnd now that youāve made your presence known in the city, Iām afraid more of them will show up.ā
āTell the driver to head to the back entrance,ā said the raven-haired youth helplessly.
Raidon smiled awkwardly. āIām afraid itāll be crowded there as well.ā
Adam was dumbfounded. āAre you telling me I have no way to enter my own house without dealing with these people?ā
āNo, my lord, there is another secret entrance,ā Raidon let out a light chuckle. āIāve already instructed the driver to head there.ā
Adam breathed a sigh of relief. āThank goodness. I truly didnāt want to meet any more people right now.ā
The conversation with Councilor Halbert Dawson had left a bitter taste in his mouth.
Heād want nothing more than to retreat to the peaceful confines of his home, to think things through and plan his next steps.
More troubles kept piling onto his already overflowing plate.
Raidonās expression turned a little awkward. āMy Lord, I didnāt get to tell you this earlier, but⦠while you were away, I took the liberty of helping your sister and her entourage settle into your manor.ā
Adam waved his hand nonchalantly. āItās Anna, so itās fine. You did well.ā
Soon, the black carriage circled the block and arrived at a hidden entrance to the estate, concealed behind a thick cluster of trees and bushes.
After confirming the coast was clear, Raidon and Adam stepped down from the carriage and approached the discreet gate.
Taking in how cleverly hidden it was, Adam couldnāt help but remark, āCheers to whoever came up with this idea.ā
After entering through the small gate, Raidon guided the raven-haired youth to the manor with great familiarity.
As they walked toward the manor, Adam took a moment to look around at his estate, his eyes filled with curiosity and fascination.
The garden was immaculately maintained, every hedge neatly trimmed and every flowerbed bustling with vibrant colors.
The white marble pathway gleamed under the ghostly light of the twin moons, flanked by rows of tall trees that rustled gently in the breeze.
Graceful statues were placed strategically throughout the grounds for added aesthetics, each one carved with intricate craftsmanship.
Adam couldnāt help but marvel at the sight. āNow this⦠this is an estate,ā he said, genuinely impressed. āRowan truly outdid himself.ā
After all, he had been away from the city for over a year now. Before leaving, he had left everything, including the construction and maintenance of the estate, to his trusted butler.
Raidon couldnāt help but agree. āIndeed, my lord. While the manor was under construction, he spent nearly all his time here, overseeing the workers and making sure everything met your standards.ā
He chuckled softly, his lips curling into a faint smile. āAnd after it was completed, he made it his mission to keep the estate in perfect condition. To be honest, my lord, I wish I had someone like that for my manor! Haha!ā
Hearing those words, Adam couldnāt help but be reminded of the circumstances under which he had met his butler.
At the time, he was investigating clues related to the Cult of Bones in the Corvid Quarter, and the man had approached him, quite literally, begging him to be given a chance to work.
Looking back at it⦠Adam was glad that he was able to meet such an upright and dependable man.
āā¦Right, heās a good man,ā he muttered softly under his breath.
Knowing that it was highly likely that the city of Ravenfell would turn into a battlefield in the near future, he quickly made his decision.
Rowan has a wife and two kids⦠I canāt allow him to stay here, he thought solemnly.
Iāll send them away with Anna and the rest.
After making their way through the sprawling courtyard, the pair finally arrived before the main manor.
When Adamās gaze landed on the building, he couldnāt help but pause in his footsteps and just stand there and silently admire it.
The grand two-storey manor stood proudly, its pristine white marble gleaming with the ethereal light under the radiance of the twin moons.
Its design was a striking blend of ancient grandeur and gothic elegance.
Tall, majestic pillars lined the facade of the manor. Above, pointed gothic arches framed stained glass windows that shimmered with vibrant colors.
A sweeping grand staircase of polished marble rose gracefully from the cobblestone courtyard, splitting into two arms that led up to the massive double doors.
The doors themselves were carved from dark, aged wood, adorned with ornate ironwork and intricate reliefs.
Beautiful marble statues occupied the balustrades on the second floor, watching over the entrance with divine, timeless gazes.
The entire manor exuded both strength and delicate charm.
Adamās lips parted, and he muttered in a slight daze, āSimply⦠beautiful.ā
The maids and servants near the manor couldnāt recognize Adam at first. After all, these people were only hired after the completion of the estateās construction.
But they knew Raidon, and the moment they saw the towering man act so submissively before the young man in black armor and the gray cape, they immediately realized who he was.
At once, they stiffened.
This was the lord of the estate⦠the one they called the Dark King!
Suddenly, the main doors to the manor opened, and a middle-aged man dressed in clean and crisp garments walked out. He had already been informed by the guards of Adamās arrival.
The moment this manās gaze landed on Adam, he displayed a brilliant smile. āMy Lord, welcome home!ā
Adam saw Rowan hurrying down the staircase and approaching him. He smiled warmly and patted him on the shoulder when he arrived. āGood job, Rowan.ā
He paused for a moment before adding, his tone laced with sincerity. āThank you⦠for everything.ā
Rowanās heart was warmed by those simple words. He placed his hand on his chest and bowed respectfully, āIt is my duty, my lord.ā
Adam deeply looked at the middle-aged man, his eyes flashing with conviction.
Yes, Iāll ensure you and your family leave Ravenfell⦠Nothing will happen to you guysā¦
His ears suddenly perked at the sound of footsteps near the manorās entrance. Turning his head, he saw four people descending the grand staircase.
But Adam paid the others no mind, his gaze remained fixed on the crimson-haired woman leading them.
A warm smile spread across his lips.
āHello, sister.ā
