Chapter 32
Linda felt uncomfortable inside but forced herself to say, âShe wouldnât do that. You all shouldnât make wild guesses.â
Lilyâs gaze landed on Elizabethâs gown, and she said resentfully, âYour parents are really biased, buying Elizabeth such an expensive gown.â
âWhat?â Linda was confused.
Lily snorted, âThe gown sheâs wearing is a limited edition from July; thereâs only one of its kind. Itâs priced at several million dollars; I saw it in a magazine. Thereâs no way I could be mistaken.â
Lindaâs eyes lowered as if she was pondering something. Finally, she shook her head, âThe gown my mom ordered for my sister isnât this one. Although I donât know why my sister didnât wear it in the end, my parents would never buy something so expensive.â
So, where did Elizabeth get this gown?
Seeing Lindaâs hesitant expression, Lily suddenly realized, âDid she wear knock-offs again?â
Linda had unintentionally revealed to her earlier that when Elizabeth had first returned to the Wilson family, sheâd inadvertently pointed out that Elizabeth was wearing knock-offs, which had angered Elizabeth.
Now Linda denied that this was the gown, inevitably leading to more speculation.
Friends around them overheard and immediately wore disgusted expressions.
Thereâs no need to wear knock-offs for the sake of appearances; the Wilson family can certainly afford beautiful gowns. How hypocritical.
Linda quickly said, âI might have remembered wrong. My mom loves my sister so much; she should be willing to buy it.â
However, her words only seemed to make matters worse for those who heard.
Lily felt that this wouldnât do. With so many high-profile people at the banquet, if someone exposed that Elizabeth was wearing a knock-off, wouldnât that be embarrassing for Linda as well?
Before Linda could stop her, she walked directly to Elizabeth and said with what she considered great politeness, âHello, Elizabeth, Iâm Lily, your distant cousin.â
Elizabeth lifted her head, her gaze indifferent yet stunning. She glanced briefly before returning her focus to her phone.
Lily looked displeased but continued, âElizabeth, if possible, I hope you can change into another gown.â
Elizabeth glanced at her and languidly replied, âNo.â
If she changed, Peter would give her a hard time.
Lily choked back her words and lowered her voice, âHonestly, itâs my first time seeing such a convincing knockoff. But no matter how convincing, a knockoff is still a knockoff.â
âAs her sister, you should consider Linda. Is tonightâs birthday party for her just a venue for you to target her?â
Elizabeth looked at her as if she were looking at an idiot, âDo you need an ophthalmologist referral?â
Lily felt that Elizabeth was being utterly ungrateful. Her well-meant warning was now being mocked.
Linda tugged at Lilyâs sleeve, âLet it go; if my sister likes it, itâs fine.â
âHow can we just let it go?â Lily felt a surge of indignation, âSheâs doing this on purpose, wanting to ruin your birthday party.â
The friends around them furrowed their brows upon hearing this. Wearing knockoff clothing to Lindaâs coming-of-age party? Whom was she trying to irk?
Such malevolent intentions really ruined her beautiful face.
âDonât waste your time. We wonât accept you into our circle. Picking on Linda is opposing us.â
âFor all the years you were absent, Linda was the one who kept your parents company. Donât you feel grateful?â
Linda looked displeased, âIf you continue to talk like this, I will get angry.â
Although her face was full of reproach, Linda was secretly delighted. Let that overshadow her? She was the true Miss Wilson; Elizabeth had no right to steal her place
And Elizabeth had no right to enter her social circle.
Lily sneered, âIs it because youâve never worn such a nice gown in your life that youâd rather buy a knockoff?â
Elizabethâs brows furrowed. The next second, she suddenly stood up and walked over to Lily, staring at her intensely.
