Both of them were attending the temple fair for the first time. The streets were bustling with groups of people out for fun and many couples.
Ye Fei joked, "Well, darling... You should have got your hubby to accompany you at a time like this. I should just go and play by myself. Gu Liancheng is pretty unreasonable; he has already come here, whatâs the harm in accompanying you around the fair for just an evening?"
"Alright already, Feiâer stop grumbling, since we left home, you havenât stopped. Why donât you just call him and tell him off? You know when you see him youâll just back down like me. Now, here you are pretending to be all high and mighty!"
"Iâm just trying to support your cause, do you have a heart at all, you little brat!"
"Alright alright, sister Feiâer is the best!" Eleven didnât bicker with her.
"Itâs not right, I still feel somethingâs off. How about we just pick up a couple of random handsome guys from the street to keep us company this evening, Eleven?"
"I donât want to!" Eleven rejected immediately, "Do you forget how bad things were for me? I was nearly dead in bed, and I had to write 20,000 words of self-criticism; I canât even write 200 words! Once bitten, twice shy."
"Look at your courage..." Ye Fei scoffed at her, "itâs no wonder that youâve been oppressed by Gu Liancheng all these years! Donât you think itâs high time this slave of yours overthrows him and sings her own song?"
"Well, that will have to wait until our divorce is finalized!" Eleven grinned, "Itâs just a month, two tops. That âthird wheelâ has been seen around more often lately ... Itâs coming!"
"Hey, you little devil, are you actually hoping for the divorce? Have you ever seen a wife like this? Not only are you not resisting the âthird wheelâ, but youâre also voluntarily stepping down... Youâre crazy enough, huh!"
"You would never understand! Iâm doing this to retain my last sliver of dignity! I canât cling onto his thigh and beg him not to divorce me! Do you believe that the more I plead, the more heartlessly he will kick me away? A woman, in such times, should hold her head high and stick out her chest. Keep calm and strong, do not cry, and do not beg. Let him know that I can survive without him, but itâs better with him! At the very least, people think you have a spine and let you go politely."
"Oh... so now you have dignity... Can dignity feed you?"
"...Haha, it really canât!"
The two of them joked around and didnât take the matter seriously. They went back to enjoying the temple fair.
After playing a round of games and taking loads of photos to capture those happy moments, they ended up at a booth that was a game of catching goldfish. Your objective was to scoop goldfish with a paper net, you got to keep whatever you managed to catch, but typically, the net would break before you could catch anything.
This game was tantalizing. Both Ye Fei and Eleven squatted in front of the stall, refusing to give up. Rolling up their sleeves, they kept saying, "One more time!"
The game required patience, which neither of them, with their increasingly impatient approaches, could muster. The fact they managed to catch even one fish was a miracle.
"Brother Liancheng! Letâs go play that goldfish game! It looks really fun!"
Ye Fei and Eleven were both taken aback, looking at each other, "Who?"
Did someone just say Brother Liancheng?
Without turning to look, Ye Fei lowered her voice and asked: "Your husband Gu Liancheng?"
Did someone really just call him as "Brother Liancheng"?
"Kids stuff."
The familiar male voice sounded, confirming their suspicions.
"Shit, is that really him?" Ye Fei was amazed.
And the sound was not far from them.
Ye Fei wanted to turn around and look, but Eleven pulled her back.
Gu Liancheng clearly was not interested in this childish game. By the time they had moved further away, Ye Fei could only see their two retreating figures.
"Hey! Youâre still playing! Stop playing!" Ye Fei pulled Eleven up, "Your husband was just led away by a sly fox! We have to hurry and catch up!"
