"Knock, knock, knockââ" Someone is knocking at the door.
Eleven lifts her head and sees Wen Qianxi.
"Sister Wen Qian!"
"What are you thinking about that keeps you so entranced?"
"Nothing in particular." Eleven laughs and stands up.
She is Gu Lianchengâs first love...
Looking at Eleven, Wen Qianxi shakes her head and smiles helplessly, "You look like nothing bothers you."
"Ah... Sister Wen, you are referring to the divorce, arenât you?"
"Exactly. He is such a nice person, treats you so well. How could you bear to divorce him?" She distinctly remembers the protective look he gave her at dinner that day. Treating her like a treasure. It didnât seem like he was acting. How could he bear to let her go?
Wenâs tone suggested she didnât know him at all. She wasnât planning to discuss their relationship. If it werenât for the photo that Eleven saw, she might still be in the dark.
"Hee-hee, I donât have much to say. His public relations department has posted a lengthy blog, Sister Wen, you can read it. Everything that needs to be said is there."
"These days, do we trust PR statements?" Wen Qianxi mocks with a smile.
She believes that their divorce must have other reasons.
That PR piece, it might fool the casual reader, not her.
"Hey, when a lie becomes true, the truth becomes a lie. What matters is not what actually happened, knowing the outcome is enough."
"Hmm," she says even so, what else can she say? "He needs an IV drip, his fever is too high."
"Shouldnât we take him to the hospital?"
"He doesnât like hospitals."
"..."
He doesnât like hospitals? He had stayed in a hospital for a while even when he wasnât sick. Made it seem like his own home. Maybe Wen knows something.
"Oh, what I meant is, people of his status avoid hospitals." Wen realizes she might have misspoke.
"Can we administer the IV at home? After all, youâre a doctor, Sister Wen. You know what to do. Let the housemaid take you to the pharmacy to have a look, everything you need is there."
There are also plenty of medical supplies, obviously meant for Dr. Shao to use.
"You can take care of him; I need to go out for a while."
Wen thinks for a moment and asks: "Is it... those two children downstairs?"
One is Gu Mengmeng, now recognized worldwide as his daughter. The other...
Looks so much like him... it is no doubt!
"Yes," Eleven admits without reluctance, "Our children."
Wen no longer asks, "Donât worry, Iâll take care of him. Go ahead and attend to the kids."
The pharmacy has everything. Wen readies the IV fluid, two bags total, plus one fever reducer shot needed. She temporarily puts on Dr. Shaoâs white coat and a mask, and instructs the housemaid to bring all necessary medical supplies into the room.
"Hold him for me."
The housemaid helps hold him sideways. She pushes the needle in.
Suddenly, Gu Liancheng wakes up and grabs the hand thatâs pulling down his pants.
The maid releases her grip immediately upon noticing him awaken. The master is fearsome even when ill.
Even though Gu Liancheng is sick, his grip on Wenâs hand is strong. She has to stop what sheâs doing.
His bodyâs alert, and thatâs why he woke up.
He turns over, arranges himself, looks at the person in front of him, and freezes.
She is wearing a mask, but those eyes, he canât forget.
He squints, shakes his head with some force, unsure if what heâs seeing is a real person.
Somethingâs not right...
It should not be a hallucination.
He would rather believe itâs a real person. Only intense longing can summon an imaginary person.
