Qu Leqi stayed inside for almost an hour, during which Heather moved a bit farther away, standing about as close as Yi Yang.
It was probably to avoid suspicion, fearing she might overhear something she wasnât supposed to.
Yi Yang had already figured out her thoughts and said with a smile, "Miss Hai, youâre not afraid of overhearing something, are you?"
Heather shrugged, "Even though Iâm not sure if I would, better to steer clear just in case."
"I donât think you will," Yi Yang replied. "Mr. Nian is still hurt, even if he wanted toâhis body wouldnât allow it."
"Really?" Heather thought for a moment and said, "Just now, I thought he looked pretty good, his injuries donât seem serious, and he should be fine."
What Yi Yang said to comfort her wasnât wrong; Mr. Nian was indeed unharmed. His robust physique wasnât for nothing, nor were those muscles built for show. Clearly, he exercised often, and his constitution was excellent.
"No way."
"Hmm?" Yi Yangâs confident tone felt a bit odd to Heather.
"No, what I mean is, Mr. Nian wouldnât jeopardize his own health like that."
Just as they were talking, the door opened, and Qu Leqi came out, adjusting her sunglasses. She strutted over to them with a high-and-mighty air and stopped directly in front of Heather.
"Heather," she said pointedly, "you better keep Mr. Nian safe for me. If anything happens to him, donât think Iâll let you off!"
Heather let out a cheeky whistle.
This "show of authority" was utterly unimpressiveâit was almost comical.
Honestly, she was just trying to save face after feeling humiliated earlier, throwing around some empty threats before leaving.
Heather would protect Mr. Nian with all her mightâit didnât require her saying another word.
Once Qu Leqi left, Yi Yang exhaled deeply, grinning. "That Miss Qu really is infamous for her drama. Itâs like she canât go a single day without stirring trouble; she just doesnât know how to stay quiet."
Heather hadnât responded yet when he added, "I really donât understand our bossâs taste in womenâhow did he end up fancying someone like her?"
"Pfft..." Heather couldnât help but burst into a radiant laughâit was her first time hearing Yi Yang talk about Mr. Nian like this. "Yi Yang, arenât you worried about dissing your boss like that? Arenât you afraid heâll fire you?"
"Relax! Weâre standing so far away; he canât hear us anyway. The boss doesnât have superhuman hearing, does he? Whatâs there to worry about?"
You really had to wonderâif Mr. Nian found out, what would he think?
"Personally, I think Miss Hai is so much better than Miss Quâclear in her values, not pretentious, generous, and genuinely good-natured. Honestly, theyâre not even the same league."
"Hey... Yi Yang, donât think flattering me will get you anywhere. Just because Iâm Mr. Nianâs bodyguard doesnât mean Iâll protect you along with him. Youâll need to pay up for that," she joked.
Truthfully, she did feel a bit bad about him getting hurt.
After all, everything couldâve been avoidedâit didnât have to happen.
"Seriously? Then I guess Iâll have to chip in some money too. After all, being close to Mr. Nian can be pretty dangerousâearning money but not living long enough to spend it wouldnât be great. Miss Hai, I hope youâll also look out for me in the future?"
"Haha," Heather was genuinely amused by him, patting his shoulder. "Alright, in the future, stay behind meâdonât wander off. If thereâs danger, Iâll handle it."
She smiled and lowered her head, not realizing that Yi Yang was watching her side profile, a thoughtful look in his eyes.
Donât worry, Miss Hai. If thereâs danger, Iâll protect you.
After all, his life had already been given to him by someone elseâand it was never meant to be lived for himself anymore.
