Space folded and collapsed around it as it hurtled toward its target, carrying with it enough power to unmake existence itself.
Julian stood perfectly still, watching the approach of annihilation with eyes that held no fearâonly a strange, almost curious calm. Annie screamed beside him, her voice lost in the roar of approaching doom, but Julian didnât move to protect her or himself.
The ground beneath their feet began to crack and crumble. The very atoms in the air started to tear apart.
Then, just as the orb of absolute destruction was about to make contactâwhen it was close enough that Julian could see his own reflection distorted in its surfaceâeverything suddenly froze.
Not just the sphere, but everything.
The dragonâs massive form hung motionless in the sky, its wings locked mid-flight. The Patriarchâs bleeding tears suspended in perfect droplets around his face. Annieâs scream never escaped her throat, her expression frozen in a moment of absolute terror. Even the particles of dust hanging in the air stopped their dance.
Time itself had come to a complete stop.
Julian closed his eyes, and in the perfect silence of the frozen moment, a familiar voice rang clearly in his head.
Congratulations to the host,
the voice said with robotic tone, though there was something almost proud in its tone.
You have successfully broken through the mortal realm and stepped into the domain of gods. Your ascension is now complete.
Julian smiledâa genuine expression of satisfaction that seemed almost out of place in the midst of destruction.
"Took you long enough," he whispered, his voice carrying the familiarity of someone speaking to an old companion.
It surely did, host,
the system replied with what might have been amusement.
"Well, we can catch up later," Julian said, the casual tone of his words sounding even more bizarre in the frozen reality around him. "I have a situation to handle."
Opening his eyes, Julian gazed calmly at the sphere of annihilation suspended mere inches from his face.
And in that instantâtime resumed.
The air that had been locked in stillness roared back to life, the earth trembling violently as the Patriarchâs black sphere completed its course. Annie screamed, her face pale with terrorâyet the massive sphere never struck.
It simply... vanished.
One moment it existed, the next it was goneâerased as though it had never been formed. The space around Julian rippled slightly, like water disturbed by a dropped stone, then returned back to normal
The Patriarchâs eyes widened in absolute shock, his bleeding tears stopping mid-flow as his mind struggled to process what he had just witnessed.
"Impossible," he breathed, his voice barely a whisper. "That sphere contained enough power to unmake reality itself. How could it simply... disappear?"
His massive form shivered, not with rage now, but with something approaching fear. In all his centuries of existence, through all his battles with divine entities and cosmic forces, he had never seen anything simply erase an attack of that magnitude without any visible effort.
Annie stumbled backward, her hand flying to her mouth as a strangled gasp escaped her lips.
"Rael... what... how did you..." She couldnât finish the sentence, couldnât even begin to comprehend what she was seeing.
The Black Dragon behind the Patriarch let out a roar, but even its ancient voice carried a note of uncertainty now. Its massive eyes, each one larger than buildings, fixed on Julian with something that might have been recognitionâor perhaps wariness of a power it didnât understand.
Meanwhile, Julian stood in the center of this chaos with perfect composure, his expression calm and almost serene. There was no visible aura around him, no dramatic transformation, no outward display of power. Yet the very air around him seemed to bend slightly, as if reality itself was acknowledging his presence.
"You want to know the difference between us, Patriarch?" Julian said, his voice carrying clearly across the devastated landscape despite speaking at normal volume. "You broke free from their system through rage, through sacrifice, through becoming exactly the monster they expected you to be."
He took a single step forward, and the ground beneath his feet didnât crack or tremble.
"But I never needed to break free," he continued, a small smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "Because I was never truly bound by it in the first place."
As Julian spoke, the oppressive darkness that had consumed the sky began to fade. Gradually, impossibly, natural sunlight began to pierce through the gloom, growing brighter and warmer with each passing moment.
The Patriarch stared upward in absolute bewilderment, his transformed features twisting with confusion and growing panic.
"What... how..." he stammered, his voice cracking as he watched his dominion over the very reality simply dissolve. "The eternal dusk... my power... how is this possible?"
The Black Dragon behind him roared in fury, its colossal form trembling as it felt the energies it had brought from the abyss beginning to weaken.
Julian simply looked up at the emerging sunlight with mild satisfaction. "How can your power prevail in the presence of mine?"
The transformation didnât stop with the sky. The massive cracks that had torn through the earthâthe wounds in reality itself that had allowed the dragon to emergeâbegan to seal themselves. The glowing runes and symbols of power that had marked the cracks simply faded away as if they had never existed.
The blood-stained ground where hundreds of villagers had been sacrificed cleaned itself, the bloody stains evaporating like morning dew. The scattered belongings of the deadâclothes, tools, toys left by children who would never play againâall of it restored to pristine condition and arranged as if their owners had simply stepped away for a moment.
Even the air itself changed, the oppressive weight lifted away to be replaced by the gentle comfort of a peaceful afternoon. The scent of flowers began to drift on the breezeâflowers that hadnât existed moments before but now bloomed in gardens that reality itself was reweaving into existence.
"How..." The patriarch whispered, his voice barely audible. "How are you doing this? This level of reality manipulation... itâs impossible. Even the Supreme Deities cannot simply reverse cosmic-scale destruction with such casual ease."
"I simply wished for it to happen."
