The Tracker
"Name."
In the dim interrogation room, two police officers sat at a desk. One held a pen to take notes, while the other stared coldly at ćNie Yuć inside the cell.
After a brief silence, one officer tapped the desk twice with his pen, his voice incredibly stern:
"Name!"
"Don't you have my file? Why are you still asking?" ćNie Yuć said faintly.
"The file is the file, and an interrogation is an interrogation. No matter who you used to be, please cooperate with our work now." The officer paused for a moment. "Name!"
"...ćNie Yuć."
"ćNie Yuć, former member of the ćThorn Special Operations Unitć. You defected and fled the country six years ago... Where have you been these past six years? What have you been doing?"
"In the ćGolden Triangleć, working as a mercenary."
"Why did you defect?"
Hearing this question, ćNie Yuć's brows furrowed tightly. He stared icily at the two people outside the cell, seemingly gradually losing his patience...
"I don't want to repeat the things written in the file."
The face of the officer conducting the interrogation darkened slightly, but he didn't flare up. His gaze fell on the next page of the file, and he fell silent.
After a long while, he finally spoke, "This file states that your wife and mother went missing during a trip to Thailand. You left the special operations unit without saying goodbye and smuggled yourself out of the country just to find them? Why didn't you request Interpol's intervention?"
"Interpol?" ćNie Yuć sneered.
"You think they weren't dispatched? But did it do any good?
That was Thailand! That was the ćGolden Triangleć!! In a barbaric and chaotic place like that, once you're targeted by the local bosses, even if you have three heads and six arms, you'll be dismantled on the spot and sold across the ocean by the next day... How many people who go missing there are ever found?
They searched for a full week and didn't even find a shadow... Since they couldn't find them, I could only go find them myself.
To other people, they might just be one of the vast number of missing persons. But to me? That was the wife who was willing to endure loneliness for my career in the special forces, and the mother who raised me with her own hands!!"
ćNie Yuć's shackled hands slammed heavily onto the metal desk, emitting a muffled
thud
. His eyes were full of anger and killing intent.
"So no matter what price I had to pay, I had to find them and bring them back... If they were alive, I wanted to see them; if they were dead, I wanted to see their corpses."
After an unknown amount of time, the officer spoke again, his voice somewhat softer than before:
"It says here that after you defected and fled the country, you hunted relentlessly in the ćGolden Triangleć for fifteen days, alone with a single gun... Did you track them down?"
"...I did."
ćNie Yuć's emotions gradually calmed down, and he spoke as if devoid of feeling. "One of them was stuffed into a vase, and the other was thrown into an underground brothel. When I found them, they were already dead."
The air fell into a brief silence.
"So, these past few years, you've been..."
"Killing." ćNie Yuć said faintly, "As long as someone hired me, as long as it was someone from the ćGolden Triangleć, I could kill anyone. Regardless of their faction, regardless of their affiliation, regardless of their skin color..."
"What meaning is there in doing that?"
"The ćGolden Triangleć shouldn't exist in the first place... No, 'national borders' shouldn't exist at all. Humanity should only follow one kind of order. If a mistake is made, they should receive uniform punishment, instead of everything being wiped clean just because they crossed some border."
"Are you talking about world unification?"
The officer shook his head. "That's too sci-fi. You should know that this world doesn't operate like that..."
ćNie Yuć didn't speak. He just sat quietly behind the cell bars, giving a disdainful and cold smile.
"Getting back on topic... Why did you hijack the plane?"
"Damn it, I said I didn't hijack the plane!!"
The image of the mysterious young man in the seat next to him suddenly surfaced in ćNie Yuć's mind... He remembered very clearly that he was the only person who went to the restroom mid-flight and didn't return until right before landing. If someone really hijacked the plane, it could only be him.
In his years as a mercenary, it wasn't as if ćNie Yuć hadn't seen people with extraordinary powers like himself. But the other party was not only able to transform into him, but also tamper with the surveillance video and slip a ćHandgunć into his pocket from a distance... He had simply never heard of such bizarre methods.
"It seems you're still unwilling to cooperate."
The two officers checked the time, picked up their pens and paper, and headed towards the door. "Think it over carefully. Later on, higher-ranking personnel will come to continue interrogating you... until you confess everything."
Bangāā
As the heavy door of the interrogation room swung shut, a deathly silence once again enveloped the cell.
Wearing shackles, ćNie Yuć sat in the chain-wrapped chair, his gaze fixed on the clock on the wall, his eyes narrowing slightly...
He gave a cold snort and exerted a slight amount of force with his hands. The sturdy, heavy shackles broke apart in his hands as if they were made of paper mache, dropping to the floor with a muffled
thud
.
"I don't have time to waste here."
ćNie Yuć tore off all the chains with his bare hands and slowly walked up to the wall of the cell, cracking his knuckles until they popped... A sharp, icy gleam, like that of a wolf king, flashed in his eyes.
The next moment, he clenched his right hand into a fist and smashed it howling towards the thick, heavy wall!!
Boomāā!!
With a single punch, a massive hole was effortlessly blown through the thick wall, breaching the building's facade. The howling cold wind from the fifth floor swirled into the interrogation room through the opening, sending the hem of ćNie Yuć's clothes fluttering wildly.
This sudden, deafening crash instantly attracted the attention of the other police officers in the building. A commotion immediately broke out in the corridor outside, as if a group of people were approaching.
ćNie Yuć remained entirely unmoved. He just stood there before the shattered hole. In his icy wolf-like pupils, the first glimmer of dawn gradually spreading across the horizon was reflected, along with the young face that had revealed a brilliant smile on the airplane.
"Don't let me run into you again," ćNie Yuć said grimly. "Otherwise, I will track you... to the ends of the earth."
ćNie Yuć tapped his toes lightly and leaped down from the fifth floor, a blur of black clothes.
A few seconds later, numerous police officers pushed open the door to the interrogation room. Seeing the massive hole that penetrated the wall, they all froze on the spot, their eyes filled with disbelief.
"How... how was this made? ćExplosivesć?"
"Impossible, we already searched him. He couldn't possibly have had ćExplosivesć on him."
"And this is the fifth floor, he just jumped down like that?"
"Quick, issue a wanted poster! Mobilize everyone in the bureau, seal all checkpoints leading in and out of Jingnan City, we must find him!"
"Also... apply for heavy armed backup from the higher-ups. This ćNie Yuć is not simple."
...
"Old Chen, help me hire a few people near ćGusuć." In a dim ćAlleywayć, ćNie Yuć pulled a cell phone from an unconscious passerby on the ground and dialed a number.
"..."
"That's right, I need to kill someone in ćGusuć, but I've run into a bit of trouble right now... I need you guys to keep an eye on her."
"..."
"The more manpower, the better. The more sophisticated the weapons, the better. I'm worried someone might come out halfway and ruin things."
"..."
ćNie Yuć spoke faintly, "Don't worry, you won't be short on money... I have plenty of money right now."
