After the sets of photos, the rest was all textâor rather, Zhao Yuanyiâs diary.
As far as Su Ze knew, Zhao Yuanyi didnât have a habit of keeping a diary, as there was little he could afford to write down.
If he wrote anything and everything, the diary could one day become evidence against him. That was why Zhao Yuanyi typically committed everything to memory.
The diary entries in this notebook seemed to have been written all at once, sometime after the events had transpired. Zhao Yuanyi had chronicled his investigation into the whereabouts of Zhao Lingxiaoâs body, and it felt as if he had written it specifically for Su Ze.
The story began with Su Zeâs first public appearance, which had been over half a year ago. Su Ze had represented Dongli in the War of Judgment, winning by an overwhelming margin and skyrocketing to fame.
At the time, Zhao Yuanyi had worried that Su Zeâs public debut would expose the fact that he had used a clone as a substitute, thereby inviting retaliation from the King of Mu. For this reason, he had specifically sought protection from Qu Jianbai.
But everything remained calm. It was as if the King of Mu was completely unaware of the situation.
Even back then, he had sensed something was off. Furthermore, the previous warden of Pan Shi Prison had also died suddenly around that time. He felt it was no coincidence.
Later, he learned a great deal about Bloodline Crystals from Feng Boyi, which led him to form several theories.
Thus, he began to secretly investigate the whereabouts of Zhao Lingxiaoâs body. Sure enough, he managed to learn some things from a confidant of the former Pan Shi Prison warden.
The Pan Shi Prison wardenâs claim to have cremated Zhao Lingxiaoâs body had been a lie. The ashes he handed over to Zhao Yuanyi were not Zhao Lingxiaoâs at all.
The warden of Pan Shi Prison had wanted to keep Zhao Lingxiaoâs body to use as blackmail against Zhao Yuanyi later.
In his diary, Zhao Yuanyi speculated that the Pan Shi Prison wardenâs murder must have been related to Zhao Lingxiaoâs body.
After all, Zhao Lingxiaoâs body had contained a Bloodline Crystal at the time. According to the properties of Bloodline Crystals, upon Zhao Lingxiaoâs death, the crystal would be expelled from his body.
Because the energy of the Bloodline Crystal within Zhao Lingxiao was also incomplete, an incomplete Bloodline Crystal would have been expelled.
In the normal course of events, this Bloodline Crystal would have ended up in the hands of the Pan Shi Prison warden. Zhao Yuanyi guessed this might be why the King of Mu had the warden killed.
Su Ze suspected it wasnât that simple. Both he and Zhao Lingxiao had Bloodline Crystals in their bodies, yet the King of Mu had paid them no mind. It seemed he didnât care if the crystals fell into someone elseâs hands or were absorbed by them.
He turned to the next page of the notebook. It described how Zhao Yuanyiâs extensive investigation had revealed that, just before his death, the Pan Shi Prison warden had been in frequent contact with people from Evolutionary Technology.
âCould he have been trying to sell the Bloodline Crystal to Evolutionary Technology?â Su Ze had a flash of insight, and all the pieces suddenly fell into place.
A fragmented Bloodline Crystal with a high absorption threshold was useless in the Pan Shi Prison wardenâs hands. It would obviously be more valuable if he sold it.
And the King of Mu clearly wouldnât want that to happen. As long as the Bloodline Crystal remained within Mu Country, he didnât much care who possessed it. But if it were about to be traded to another country, leaving his sight and control, he would have to intervene.
And so, the warden of Pan Shi Prison died, and his deal with Evolutionary Technology was naturally terminated.
âIn that case, itâs highly likely the remaining Bloodline Crystal really is in the King of Muâs hands.â
Having killed the Pan Shi Prison warden, the King of Mu certainly wouldnât have just discarded the Bloodline Crystal. He must have kept it as bait, waiting for Su Ze to take the hook.
Su Ze frowned. It seemed a confrontation with the King of Mu was unavoidable after all.
