Now, back to Yi Feng.
Having made sufficient "preparations," he settled into Feng Qianyue's place, entering a state of waiting for death.
Lazily sprawled on a recliner, basking in the sunlight, he held grapes in his left hand and a peach in his right, humming a tune between chews.
Living idly while awaiting deathānothing could be more fitting!
Beside him, Feng Qianyue, seated cross-legged, no longer offered any words of encouragement.
Yet, she couldnāt help but wonder inwardly.
With only a few days left before the Death Inheritance trial, how could Yi Feng remain so carefree?
Most people would seize every moment to improve themselves, but this man acted as if he were on vacation.
Didnāt he worry at all about failing and perishing in the trial?
Feng Qianyue felt uneasy.
But given her position, she had no right to lecture Yi Feng.
All she could do was leave it to fate.
"Ah, Iām bored. Iām going for a walk in the street. Want to come?" Yi Feng lazily sat up from the recliner, tossing the last grape into his mouth as he glanced at Feng Qianyue.
"Apologies, sir. Qianyue has matters to attend to later and wonāt be able to accompany you," she replied with a bow.
"Alright then, Iāll just stroll around and be back soon."
Stretching, Yi Feng ambled toward the street.
The sunlight was perfect.
A warm breeze brushed past.
The street buzzed with the cries of vendors.
Nearby, a towering tree cast shade over most of the corner, with only scattered beams of light piercing through the leaves, creating dazzling halos when viewed head-on.
Beneath the tree, $2 layer of fallen leaves emitted a faint, earthy scentānot unpleasant.
A stone table stood under the tree, $2here an old man sat, fanning himself with a palm-leaf fan as he studied an unfinished game of chess.
Spotting this scene as he meandered down the street, Yi Fengās interest was piqued.
"Old man, you should move like this," Yi Feng suggested, leaning in.
"Heh."
The old man chuckled, waving his fan as he completely abandoned the chessboard and looked up at Yi Feng. "Young man, youāve finally arrived."
"Oh? You knew I was coming?"
Yi Feng gave him a puzzled look, unable to resist asking.
The old man smiled but didnāt answer. Instead, he gestured and said, "Sit, young man. How about keeping this old man company for a game?"
"Sure."
Yi Feng didnāt overthink it and took a seat. He had nothing better to do anyway.
The more you anticipate a certain day, the slower time seems to pass.
The old man gave Yi Feng a meaningful glance before placing his piece.
Yi Feng, relaxed, followed suit.
Soon, $2he two were locked in a fierce back-and-forth on the board.
Yet, the old manās expression remained composed the entire time, $2s if everything was under his control.
"Recently, I heard the Death Inheritance of Fengyue Island is about to begin againā¦"
The old man remarked casually between moves, his tone laden with implication.
"Ah, yes."
Yi Feng nodded, $2hen placed another piece.
The moment this piece landed, the old manās relaxed demeanor shifted abruptly.
He straightened, his expression turning serious.
His entire focus was now on the board, his hand hovering over a piece but unable to decide where to place it.
Only now did he realizeāhe had fallen into Yi Fengās trap.
No matter where he moved, it was checkmate.
Seeing no way out, the old manās face flushed with embarrassment.
"Old man, give up. Youāve lost."
Yi Feng yawned.
Too boring.
Too effortless.
"Heh."
"Lost is lost." The old man shamelessly swept the pieces aside. "No more chess. Letās talk business."
"What business?"
Yi Feng blinked, confused.
This old man kept saying strange things.
"Heh, young man, youāre the one taking the Death Inheritance, arenāt you?"
The old man grinned.
"Yep, thatās me."
Yi Feng didnāt hide it. So thatās what this was about.
"Good lad, I knew it was you!" The old man clapped Yi Fengās shoulder excitedly, praising, "When I heard someone was attempting the Death Inheritance, I took notice of you. I must say, few have your courage. Impressive!"
"Thanks for the praise."
Yi Feng replied politely.
If not for the systemās demand for his death, only an idiot would volunteer for this trial.
"Of course, what excites me isnāt just your bravery. Throughout history, countless have dared to face the Death Inheritance, yet none have caught my eye."
"What truly excites me is the uncertainty in you."
"Uncertainty?"
Yi Feng blinked.
"Because I canāt see your fate," the old man said gravely.
"Fate?"
Yi Feng smirked. "Old man, are you some kind of charlatan?"
"Heh, young man, Iām not boasting. Every person passing by on this streetāI can see their destiny clearly."
"When theyāre born, when theyāll die, I know it all."
"Even their future path, their future achievementsā¦"
As he spoke, the old man waved his hand before Yi Fengās eyes.
Suddenly, $2i Feng saw a different world.
A black-clad swordsman walked past, his head shrouded in dark mist.
A little girl nearby had a halo of red light above her.
Most others, however, had ordinary auras.
"That swordsman you see wonāt live past three days. No one can save him. Thatās his fate!"
"The little girl beside him? Her future potential is limitless."
The old man explained matter-of-factly.
Yi Feng was astonished.
Heād thought the old man was a fraud, but it turned out he was a true master.
"But your fateāI canāt see it!"
The old man looked up and repeated.
"Those with unseen fates may live mediocre lives⦠or achieve the unimaginable."
"Thatās why your kind has the highest ceiling."
"And thatās what truly excites me."
Yi Feng chuckled to himself.
Of course, the old man couldnāt see it.
After death, heād become an immortal being.
Admittedly, the old man had a sharp eye.
