Chapter 255: Testing Poison on Herself
The conversation between Divine Doctor Xue and Lin Chen was becoming a strangely animated exchangeâan old man and a child chatting away like old friends.
But Bian Suwenâs expression was heavy with worry. She finally spoke up, cutting through their back-and-forth. âLetâs focus on what matters first. You can talk as much as you like once this crisis is handled.â
âYouâre right, Senior,â Doctor Xue said hastily.
Lin Chen also nodded and zipped his mouth shut.
âThis way,â Bian Suwen said, leading Divine Doctor Xue to an isolated ICU room.
Wang Haoran and the others followed. As they approached the door, Lin Chen looked up at Bian Suwen. âThird Sister, can I come in and take a look too?â
Though still young, Lin Chen had indeed acquired a measure of medical knowledge through the Prodigy System.
Bian Suwen considered it for a moment, then gave a nod.
Wang Haoran didnât object either. Lin Chenâs medical skills had most likely been exchanged through the system, but his available points were limitedâespecially since Wang Haoran kept interrupting his opportunities to show off. With so few points, there was no way he could afford top-tier skills like Grandmaster-level Healing Arts.
If Lin Chen really were that capable, he wouldâve long since made a show of detoxifying the victims himself instead of jumping through hoops to rescue Doctor Xue. That alone confirmed how limited he really was.
So Wang Haoran watched him walk in without the slightest concern.
Inside the ICU, Bian Suwen had already examined the three poisoned girls earlier. There was no point in her doing it again. Lin Chen, however, did his own check and soon fell silent.
He couldnât solve it.
Divine Doctor Xue bent over for an inspection, but as he examined the victims, his expression quickly darkened. He turned to Bian Suwen, his voice low. âItâs just as I feared.â
Bian Suwen nodded gravely. âLast night, Shao Wanwan from the Poison Sect formally challenged me.â
âThat Shao Wanwanâis she insane?! She actually dared to use one of the Poison Sectâs forbidden poison?!â Doctor Xueâs face twisted with alarm.
âThe forbidden poison you mean isâŠâ Bian Suwen recalled something sheâd once read in the medical texts of the Immortal Doctor Valley.
Doctor Xueâs face was grim. âYes. âBlood Prison of the Poisoned Feather.â If it erupts, the victimâs body explodes, turning their blood into toxic mist that spreads for ten kilometers. Anything that breathes it inâhuman or beastâwill be infected by the same poison.â
âBut it doesnât stop there. Secondary infections become more potent than the first. Once the second wave of victims explodes, the poiison range expands even further. If this cycle continues, the entire world could turn into a living hell.â
âPoison Sect maniacs,â he spat.
âBlood Prison of the Poisoned FeatherâŠâ Bian Suwenâs face paled at the name.
She had suspected this, but her knowledge of the forbidden poisons was too shallow. And sheâd underestimated just how ruthless Shao Wanwan could be.
But Doctor Xue had trained under his senior brother for many years. His understanding of the Poison Sectâs dark arts was far more comprehensive. If he said it was this poison, then it almost certainly was.
âCanât we just bury the infected? That should stop the airborne spread,â Lin Chen offered, thinking aloud.
âIf it were that simple, it wouldnât be called a forbidden poison,â Doctor Xue shook his head.
âYouâre Divine Doctors, though,â Lin Chen said. âEven you canât cure this?â
âThis poison would stump even my master if he were still alive,â Doctor Xue sighed.
âBut poison is still man-made. If it exists, so should its antidote. I donât believe thereâs anything in this world that canât be cured,â Lin Chen argued.
âYouâre not wrong,â Doctor Xue said, âBut as far as we know, the only one who can easily neutralize the Blood Prison of the Poisoned Feather⊠is the Poison Sectâs Ancestor.â
âWhat?â Bian Suwenâs expression changed. âThat man was in the same generation as my senior brother. He must be over 150 years old now. How could he still be alive?â
âMy master lived in harmony with nature. He never pursued immortality or tried to defy fate,â Doctor Xue explained. âBut the Poison Ancestor believed in the opposite. He was obsessed with defying heaven. Back then, I heard my master say he was working on a youth-reversing pill. Now that decades have passed with no news of his death⊠it seems he may have succeeded.â
âBut if the Poison Ancestor is still alive, why hasnât the Poison Sect made it public?â Bian Suwen frowned.
âBecause their talents have dwindled. They lack successors with real power. And even they canât fully understand the forbidden poisons. Thatâs why, until now, they never dared to use themâfearful of drawing the wrath of hidden clans.â
At that moment, Bian Suwenâs heart was already filled with dread. Her mind whirled as the reality settled in.
The Poison Sectâs Ancestor was still alive.
And based on Shao Wanwanâs behavior, she must have just learned this herself. No wonder sheâd acted with such confidenceâshe had a monster like that backing her now.
The weight of it all made Bian Suwenâs heart sink. This wasnât someone she could possibly contend with.
Was this the beginning of Yixian Valleyâs downfall?
She thought of her late senior brother, who had technically taken her as a disciple in their masterâs stead. In many ways, they were master and apprentice.
When he passed, she had promised him that she would lead the valley to gloryâthat she would never let it fall under her leadership.
But nowâŠ
âSeniorâŠâ Doctor Xue saw her expression, and his heart filled with sorrow.
âIâm the current Yixian Valley Master . Even if it costs me my life, I wonât let our name be stained,â Bian Suwen said, her voice firm, her tone cold yet resolute.
Doctor Xue understood. She was going to try the only thing leftâto test the poison on herself.
He straightened up and bowed deeply. âPlease, Command me.â
âIf anything happens to me⊠youâll be the next Valley Master.â She took a deep breath and sat beside one of the poisoned girls.
âNo! You mustnât!â Doctor Xueâs face drained of color as he rushed forward.
But it was too late.
In one swift motion, Bian Suwen pierced the girlâs finger with a silver needle, drawing a drop of tainted blood. A faint thread of dark-red vapor curled upward from the tip, activated by a surge of True Qi.
Without hesitation, she inhaled it all.
In the next instant, her complexion turned ashen.
This poison was insidiousâjust a trace was enough to infect someone. Even with her strong Internal Energy, her resistance only bought her some time. The dizziness came almost immediately.
âThird Sister!â Lin Chen panicked and rushed forward.
âDonât come any closer!â Doctor Xue stopped him in time. âIf youâre exposed, youâll be infected too.â
Lin Chen froze mid-step, his heart pounding with helpless frustration.
âWrite down what I say,â Bian Suwen forced out, swaying slightly.
Doctor Xue immediately recognized what she was doingâanalyzing the poisonâs ingredients from the inside, in real-time. It was a method often used by true Grandmaster-level Poison Arts experts. But it was also incredibly dangerous.
There was no turning back now.
âIâm ready,â Doctor Xue said, bracing himself.
âZhen poison⊠black mulberry leaves⊠blue aconite⊠Tibetan saffronâŠâ She spoke slowly, naming each ingredient one by one.
But after just four items, her body suddenly trembled.
A searing sensation coursed through her veins.
Her bloodâit was boiling and she knew instantly.
This was it.
The first stage of the Blood Prison of the Poisoned Featherâs eruption.
