Chapter 325: Not a Burden, Not at All
Now fully convinced of the girlâs identity, Mu Zhaozhaoâs eyes brightened as she offered a warm smile. âSenior, were you looking for someone just now when you were peeking into our dorm?â
âI wasnât looking for anyone,â Ren Jiaojiao shook her head. After a pause for thought, she added, âI just noticed your dorm only has three beds. Does that mean only three of you live here?â
âYeah, just the three of us,â Mu Zhaozhao nodded cheerfully.
Ren Jiaojiaoâs eyes sparkled. âAn empty bed like that is such a waste. Do you think⊠I could move in?â
Mu Zhaozhao blinked in surprise. âYou donât have a dorm of your own?â
âOf course I do. But it leaks when it rainsâthe ceilingâs got a crack right above my bed. Half the time, my quilt gets soaked through,â Ren Jiaojiao replied, visibly annoyed at the thought.
âOh wow, that sounds awful,â Mu Zhaozhao winced sympathetically.
âRight? Total nightmare,â Jiaojiao sighed dramatically. âSo when I saw the spare bed in your room, I figured Iâd ask if I could move in.â
Mu Zhaozhao tilted her head thoughtfully. âI donât mind, but Iâm not the only one living there. Iâll have to ask my roommates firstâwait here, okay?â With that, she ducked back inside.
A few moments later, she returned with a smile. âThey said itâs totally fine.â
âAwesome!â Ren Jiaojiao beamed. âIâll go grab my things.â
âWait, weâve kind of piled a bunch of stuff on the spare bed,â Zhaozhao said, scratching her cheek in embarrassment. âItâd be hard to clean it all up right now. Maybe itâs better to wait till tomorrow?â
It was late, and frankly, she wasnât in the mood to clean. She had other prioritiesâQin Yunhan had already invited her to squad up for some ranked gaming.
âAlright, tomorrow works,â Jiaojiao agreed without fuss. She didnât want to leave a bad first impression, especially not with Mu Zhaozhao.
âZhaozhao, what are you doing? I already formed the teamâweâre just waiting on you!â a voice called out impatiently from down the hall.
âComing, Sister Yunhan!â Mu Zhaozhao answered, hurriedly fishing out her phone.
Ren Jiaojiao glanced toward the voice and spotted a strikingly beautiful girl standing just outside another dorm room. Her eyes widened. âWait⊠thatâs Qin Yunhan, isnât it? The other campus belle from your year?â
âYup, sheâs my bestie,â Zhaozhao said with a giggle.
âCan you not yell in the hallway?â another girl leaned out from the neighboring dorm, irritation written all over her pretty face.
âIâll yell if I damn well please! Mind your business!â Qin Yunhan shot back without hesitation.
Ren Jiaojiaoâs eyes narrowed as she stared at the girl who had just spoken. âThatâs⊠Xu Muyan, right?â
Mu Zhaozhao nodded. âMhm.â
Jiaojiao couldnât help the grin that stretched across her face. Delight shimmered in her eyes, and the excitement building in her chest practically made her tremble.
What a jackpot.
All three of the freshman campus belles lived on this floor.
And by tomorrow, sheâd be moving in with one of them.
She definitely had to start paying visits.
â
First period, the next morning.
Wang Haoran stepped into the classroom and immediately spotted Wei Zhihang slumped over his desk, his right eye dark and swollen like a pandaâs. Alarmed, he rushed over. âOld Fourth! Did someone beat you up? Who was it? Tell me!â
Wei Zhihang was a minor villain in the narrative, with a naturally punchable face. Getting beaten up out of the blue? That was probably the protagonistâs doing.
And wherever the protagonist struck,
halo points
and
villain points
were sure to follow.
Wang Haoran was practically buzzing with excitement.
âN-No, I just tripped,â Zhihang said with a stiff smile, trying to play it off.
âBullshit,â Wang Haoran said bluntly. âYou trip and end up like that? Be honestâdid you try to mess with some beauty and get your ass kicked by her knight in shining armor?â
âIt wasnât a guy⊠it was Ren Jiaojiao,â Zhihang muttered, defeated. âAnd she didnât just hit my eye. She got my brother too. Still hurts.â
âRen Jiaojiao?â Wang Haoran raised a brow.
âOur senior in the Finance Department,â Zhihang clarified.
âYou serious, Old Fourth?â Liu Hua leaned in, openly sneering. âYou got laid out by a girl?â
âI heard Ren Jiaojiaoâs supposed to be gentle and sweet. Why the hell did she get violent?â Lu Ming chimed in.
âRumors, all of it,â Zhihang grumbled. âSheâs brutal. Donât let those skinny arms and legs fool youâshe hits like a damn truck.â
âSo what now?â Liu Hua asked, clearly enjoying this. âYou just gonna let it slide?â
âOf course not!â Zhihangâs face twisted in rage. Lowering his voice to a whisper, he hissed, âIâm planning to buy some knockout drugs online. Once I get her alone, Iâll knock her out and teach her a lesson. Gotta avenge my little brother.â
âLeave it to me.â Wang Haoran clapped a firm hand on his shoulder. âIâll settle the score for you.â
Ren Jiaojiaoâsophomore yearâs famed campus belle. Gorgeous, they said. Now caught in the sights of a minor villain like Zhihang?
That practically screamed female lead. And when it came to handling female leads, only a professional villain would do.
Wang Haoran didnât hesitate in the slightest. He took the job without blinking.
âBoss, thatâs really kind of you,â Zhihang said, grateful but sheepish.
âNot a burden, not at all,â Haoran replied with a calm smile.
âHey, Wang Haoran! What are you guys whispering about?â A bright voice rang out behind them.
They turned to see Mu Zhaozhao walking over, curious as ever.
âTalking about Ren Jiaojiao!â Lu Ming blurted before anyone could stop him.
Wang Haoran shot him a glare that made the boy shrink back. Then he turned to Zhaozhao with a calm face. âJust discussing classwork.â
âOh.â She clearly didnât buy it, but didnât press further.
âLook, itâs Ren Jiaojiao!â Liu Hua suddenly pointed toward the window.
Everyone turned to look.
Outside, a tall girl with a stunning figure walked past. Even at a glance, she scored a 95âgorgeous curves, confident stride, textbook female lead material.
And just like that, she was gone.
âYou couldnât take your eyes off her. You want to get to know Ren Jiaojiao that badly?â Mu Zhaozhao teased.
âWhy would I want to know her?â Wang Haoran scoffed, putting on a righteous face. Then, after a short pause, he looked at Zhaozhao. âYou said that like you know her.â
âSheâs moving into my dorm today. Weâre going to be roommates,â Zhaozhao replied.
âReally? Want me to help you tidy up the room?â Wang Haoran offered, a little too eagerly.
âAre you helping me? Or are you just trying to cozy up to Ren Jiaojiao?â Zhaozhao narrowed her eyes.
âI donât even know her. Of course Iâm helping you,â he said smoothly. Then, with a casual shrug, added, âBut if you donât want help, thatâs fine too.â
âI do, actually.â She smiled. âThat spare bedâs a mess. Weâve stacked a bunch of stuff on it, and I donât want to clean it alone. Come help.â
Despite her suspicions, Mu Zhaozhao didnât mind an excuse to spend more time with him. And if it gave her a chance to watch him up closeâso be it.
