After finishing the statement, it was already past nine in the evening.
"Gurgleāā"
Lin Wan frowned, "Iām so hungry."
She was deepening her cultivation but hadnāt yet mastered the level of avoiding grain for short periods, so her energy consumption was quite high.
Since she effectively hadnāt eaten dinner, even a normal person would be hungry by now, let alone Lin Wan, who needed more energy intake.
"Letās go find a barbecue place for some grilled meat."
"Mr. Lu, Miss Lin."
On the other side, Tony also walked out from another interrogation room.
"Thank you, Mr. Lu, for saving my life."
Tony reached out and shook Lu Zhengās hand, "You two probably havenāt had dinner yet, how about joining me for a late-night snack?"
Lin Wan looked at Lu Zheng.
Lu Zheng didnāt mind, after all, he saved Tonyās life, whatās wrong with having a meal?
The three of them arrived at the entrance of the police bureau and saw a stretch Rolls-Royce parked by the roadside with four or five men in black standing beside it. An elderly man, around fifty years old, who looked like a private butler, quietly stood by the car door.
Seeing Tony come out, the old man immediately walked up quickly, bending slightly, "Young Master."
He spoke in Italian, which Lu Zheng couldnāt understand.
Tony spoke to the old man in Chinese, "These two are Mr. Lu and Miss Lin, they saved me by catching the guys my brother sent after me."
The old man, with fluent Chinese, said to Lu Zheng, "Hello, both of you. Thank you so much for saving our young master."
Lu Zheng smacked his lips, since when did Chinese become an international language?
"No need to be so formal, it was a coincidence."
Tony told the old man, "Back to the hotel, I want to treat Mr. Lu and Miss Lin to dinner."
The old man immediately opened the car door, "Please, everyone, get in."
Lu Zheng wasnāt polite, took Lin Wan by the hand, and got in first, followed by Tony.
The old man sat in the passenger seat, while the other men in black had their own cars.
"Anthony, does the restaurant have barbecue?"
"Yes, it does."
Butler Anthony nodded, "There is a restaurant specializing in barbecue on the fourth floor of the hotel, open until 2 AM."
"Great."
Lu Zheng nodded, Tony apparently just overheard his conversation with Lin Wan.
...
Hotel, restaurant.
True to its reputation, the riverside five-star hotel had delicious grilled meats and seafood barbecue.
After being seated, Lu Zheng and Lin Wan were once again thanked by Tony and they heartily enjoyed the feast.
"Miss Lin is actually a policewoman,"
Tony said in amazement, "I really couldnāt tell, Iāve always thought those pretty female officers in movies were made up, you know, Iāve never seen a policewoman as beautiful as Miss Lin in Italy."
"Itās a pity I didnāt get to hear Mr. Luās piano performance today, but I hope to catch it next time when I visit."
"By the way, if you both have the time, please visit Italy, let me extend my hospitality."
"Donāt worry about my brother, he was taking a big risk this time, but he failed and left evidence, so heās forever lost his chance to inherit the family."
"Are you sure it was your brother who sent the assassin?" Lu Zheng asked, then looked at Lin Wan, "Did the assassin confess?"
Lin Wan shrugged, "How would I know?"
Tony shook his head with a laugh, "It has to be him, the family only has me and him as heirs, no room for anyone else to frame us."
"Alright then..." Lu Zheng raised an eyebrow, "Italy... family... fighting for inheritance, even using assassins..."
Lu Zheng pulled out a lamb skewer, looking meaningfully at Tony, "You guys..."
Tony waved his hands, "No no no, you misunderstood, while we have to maintain certain engagements due to reality, weāre not the Mafia."
"If someone not in the Mafia can hire a killer, imagine the real Mafia!"
Tony smiled wryly, "In fact, ordinary people generally wouldnāt be involved with the Mafia, Italy isnāt as dangerous as you think."
Lu Zheng nodded, "I believe that."
"Thatās why Iām going back this time, to handle family affairs," Tony said, "My father is about to officially retire, probably within two or three months, heāll hand over family affairs to me. As for my brother..."
Tony shrugged, "He broke the rules, and will likely be sent by the elders to manage some minor role in South America or Africa."
Lu Zheng raised an eyebrow, "Arenāt you afraid heāll cause trouble behind the scenes?"
Tony shook his head, "No, heās permanently lost his right to inherit, even if I die, it wonāt be passed to him."
Lu Zheng nodded, he was merely asking casually, not really interested in Tonyās family matters. Saving Tony was unintentional, thanks to the unprofessional hitman who poisoned both glasses of red wine on the tray.
Seeing that Lu Zheng and Lin Wan werenāt interested in his family affairs, Tony quickly changed the subject, chatting with Lu Zheng about music, and with Lin Wan about cases he had heard of in Italy.
The late-night snack lasted until eleven, after which Lu Zheng and Lin Wan bid farewell together.
...
They had the hotel car drop them off at a shopping mall in the city center.
Then they walked home.
"That Tony was lucky, if you werenāt there, heād be dead," Lin Wan said.
"Yeah." Lu Zheng nodded, then smiling said, "I saved his life, and all I got was a meal, feels like a loss!"
Lin Wan nodded repeatedly, "Yeah, yeah, that guy doesnāt have any sense, didnāt even throw a bank card our way!"
Lu Zheng replied, "Or didnāt offer me an irresistible number for guarding against poison while being by his side."
The two exchanged a look.
"Not professional!"
"Have you been reading too many novels? Skipping work to read them all day?"
"Youāre the one who reads too many novels, otherwise how would you know all this?"
...
The next day, Lu Zheng received a call from Lin Wan.
"The assassin confessed, it was indeed instigated by Tonyās brother," Lin Wan said.
"Confessed so easily again?" Lu Zheng said, quite surprised.
Lin Wan found it ridiculous, "Caught red-handed, itās not a mind-bending game, nothing to hide."
"So whatās the sentence?"
"Just following procedure, on our turf, we follow our rules."
"Beepāā"
At this point, Lu Zheng received a message, which he casually checked; it was Tony preparing to return to Italy, bidding farewell to Lu Zheng.
"He invited us to Italy for National Day, covering all our expenses."
"Iāve realized, whenever we go out, we always manage to find ways to do it for free."
Lu Zheng said helplessly, "What does this have to do with me, Iām quite hopeless too."
Lin Wan also said helplessly, "If itās not a helicopter crash, then itās a poisoning case, why is the price of free travel always so high?
Without your skills, we would have lost two lives, still talking about travel!
How about we pay for the next trip ourselves?
Free things are too costly!"
