Chapter 1344: Whose Fault Is It?
The Golden Void Lightningâs words exploded in An Linâs mind.
He shuddered and fell into a daze as he recollected all of the gruesome scenes of sufferings and deaths he had witnessed.
âI⊠I killed them?
âNo! I was trying to save them!
âI was only trying to save their lives!â
An Lin clasped his hands to his head, and he shook his head relentlessly as he yelled.
âSave them?â The Golden Void Lightning spoke in a cold voice, âLook at all those people that have been impaled by sabers. They are all the people you abandoned.â
An Lin looked down at the countless bodies below. All of them had sabers pierced through them and had died extremely gruesome deaths, and their blood stained the entire ground below crimson.
This hellish scene of slaughter was presented to An Lin mercilessly.
Despair and death were all that remained.
âI⊠I did this?â An Lin murmured to himself.
âThatâs right. These are all those who were ârescuedâ by youâŠâ The Golden Void Lightningâs demonic voice pulled An Lin toward the abyss of no return. âYou did all of this. You killed ten thousand people!â
âNo! It wasnât me! I didnât do this!
âI didnât want this to happenâŠ
âIâm not responsible for their deathsâŠâ
An Lin looked down at all of the gruesome bodies below, and tears of crushing remorse flowed from his eyes.
âYou were sacrificing people during the process in which you rescued others. Hence, you were unable to save anyone in the end. You made all those decisions to kill all of these people!â The living Golden Void Lightning cackled.
âDo you know how much pain and despair they experienced before their deaths⊠Should I show you?â
Boundless agony and negative emotions flowed instantly into An Linâs mind.
An Lin was struck by heartwrenching agony, and he collapsed to the ground, wailing with anguish.
There were simply too much pain and negative emotions for a mortal body to bear.
An Lin felt as if he was about to collapse. His eyes glazed over, and his heart was filled with guilt, pain, and remorse. âThey all died because of me? I killed all of them? Ten thousand lives⊠I deserve to die!â
He drew his Evil-Slaying Sword and was just about to commit suicide.
However, he suddenly realized something, and his eyes regained clarity.
âNo! You are the one who killed them!â An Lin raised his head with flaming wrath in his eyes. âYou put the humans there, and you made me choose! I had no other choice, and I only wanted to save them! Theyâll understand my true intentions!â
âTheyâll understand?â The Golden Void Lightning cackled. âAlright then, let me show you whether theyâll understand your decisions⊠Come on out, dead souls!â
All of a sudden, countless perished spirits rose up from the bodies on the ground.
After learning about what had happened, all of them pounced toward An Lin.
âHowl! Itâs you! Why did you abandon me? Was it just because I was standing on the side with the minority?!â a vengeful spirit screeched as it flew toward An Lin.
âWhat gives you the right to decide whether I live or die? I didnât want to die⊠How could you be so cruelâŠâ A female ghost flew toward him while extending her vicious claws.
âYou killed me, so you have to pay with your life!â A malevolent ghost hurtled toward him.
Countless vengeful spirits unleashed their pent-up emotions as they scratched and clawed at An Lin.
An Lin curled up into a ball, and his entire body was soon riddled with wounds.
âBig BrotherâŠâ a clear, crisp voice sounded.
An Lin looked up to discover a little girl standing before him.
She was the little girl who he had chosen to save as his final choice.
The little girl stared at An Lin, and she suddenly smiled.
âBig Brother⊠Youâre such a bad person. You killed so many people, and you even killed my grandma. You really⊠deserve to die!â
The little girl plunged a dagger viciously into An Linâs chest!
âA demon like you should not exist in this world! Die!â A ruthless smile appeared on the little girlâs face.
Searing agony shot through An Linâs chest, and his eyes were filled with pain and remorse.
âHahaha⊠Do you see now? All of these living beings hate you! You were trying to save them? That may be the case, but no one thinks that!â The living Golden Void Lightning crackled with laughter, as if it was celebrating something.
âYouâre right. No one is grateful to me. Everyone thinks I should die. But what else could I have doneâŠâ An Lin smiled as tears of blood flowed from his eyes.
âYou actually have another choice,â the Golden Void Lightning suddenly said.
âWh⊠what is it?â An Linâs body shuddered slightly, as if he was trying to make one final, desperate bid for redemption.
The Golden Void Lightning spoke with a smile in its voice, âYou couldâve chosen not to save them from the start and to let them all die!â
An Linâs heart jolted. âLet them all die?â
âThatâs right. This is the nature of humans. They wonât understand you, they donât know your pain and struggle. If you made those choices that let them die, they would vent all of their resentment and rage upon you.
âBut if you hadnât done anything and just let them die, they can only blame fate. How could they blame you?â
A peculiar feeling welled up in An Linâs heart upon hearing this.
âThere is no point in saving humans as they donât deserve to be saved, isnât that right?â A hint of coercion appeared in the Golden Void Lightningâs apathetic voice.
âHumans donât deserve to be savedâŠâ An Linâs eyes were glazed over as he repeated the Golden Void Lightningâs words in a monotonous voice.
âYes, just let them all die.
âRescuing one side will make you someone who deserves to die for the other side. In that case, you might as well go with the flow,â the Golden Void Lightning continued.
âYouâre right. Theyâre all going to die anyway, so why did I insist on being some stupid savior⊠I went through so much pain and turmoil for them, only to have them condemned me as vengeful spiritsâŠâ An Lin chortled as he coughed up mouthfuls of blood.
Bolts of Golden Void Lightning fell from the sky, tearing the ten thousand vengeful spirits apart!
An Lin dragged his wounded body to its feet before looking up at the Golden Void Lightning before him.
The Golden Void Lightning was only about half the size of a grown man.
Even though it was quite small in stature, it appeared to possess a high level of intelligence.
A burst of paramount lightning might erupted forth, making one feel as if they were impossibly insignificant and tiny in its wake.
âYou are the sole essential Golden Void Lightning in this world?â An Lin murmured.
âThatâs right, and Iâm very happy to make your acquaintance.â The Golden Void Lightningâs voice was imbued with a brainwashing quality as it said, âHumans are going to be extinct sooner or later, so just let them die. They donât deserve salvation anywayâŠâ
An Lin didnât know how they had arrived at this topic of conversation.
However, for some reason, he felt like the Golden Void Lightningâs words were quite reasonable.
The Golden Void Lightning adopted a humanoid form before extending a hand. âAn Lin, you donât belong to the human race. Come with me.â
