"Mhm." Su Yue turned off the TV, then closed up the can of unfinished potato chips and put it in a plastic bag with their other snacks.
The two of them left the room, but they didnāt go outside to find a restaurant. The hotel offered its guests a complimentary breakfast.
"Wow, this hotel has a pretty impressive breakfast spread!" Su Yue said with a smile as she and Lin Li arrived at the hotelās dining hall, eyeing the dazzling array of food on display.
"Iāll go find us a table. Once youāve gotten your food, Iāll go get mine," Lin Li said to Su Yue, noticing the dining hall was starting to fill up.
"Okay! Try to get a spot by the window, preferably one where we can see the ocean in the distance."
"Mhm."
With their tasks assigned, they sprang into action. Lin Li quickly found a table by a floor-to-ceiling window with a view of the vast, distant ocean.
A moment later, Su Yue returned with a plate, scanned the dining hall, and walked over once she spotted Lin Li.
Lin Li glanced at the plate Su Yue set on the table. It held only a small bowl of fruit salad, a little slice of cake, and a glass of milk. "Weāve got a full day ahead of us," he said. "Youāll get hungry if thatās all you eat..."
"Iām not very hungry right now. This is enough," Su Yue said as she sat down.
People who get drunk on beer usually donāt have much of an appetite when they wake up the next day. Lin Li thought about it for a moment, and the reason became clear. He then said to Su Yue,
"This is what you get for drinking so much last night. See? Now you have no appetite for breakfast."
"I didnāt even drink that much. I usually drink way more than that at home and donāt get drunk.
I must have been too tired yesterday, and thatās why such a small amount made me drunk," Su Yue said, taking a sip of her milk.
"Well, they say you live and you learn. I hope youāve learned your lesson and wonāt drink like that again," Lin Li commented offhandedly before getting up to get his own breakfast.
āNope. Iām going to drink like that again in the future, just so you have to carry me like you did last night...ā Su Yue watched him walk away, a mischievous grin spreading across her face as she muttered to herself.
...
After they finished their complimentary breakfast, they went back to the room and watched TV for a while until Lin Liās phone rang.
"Yes, this is he."
"Okay, Iāll be right down."
"Right, got it. Iāll need my ID for confirmation, correct?"
After he hung up, Su Yue, who was sitting beside him, saw him get to his feet and stood up as well. "Was that the person delivering the car?"
"It was. Go back to your room and grab your straw hat and sunglasses. Once we get the car downstairs, we can start our sightseeing for the day," Lin Li said with a nod.
Su Yue hummed in agreement, then left Lin Liās room to go get her things from her own.
In the hotel parking lot, a young man stood in front of a black SUV, waiting for his client to arrive.
"Hello."
The young man, who had been looking at his phone, heard a voice and looked up. A man and a woman, both wearing straw hats and sunglasses, were standing in front of him. It was the man who had just spoken.
"Are you Mr. Lin?" the young man asked.
"Yes, thatās me. Hereās my ID for confirmation," Lin Li said with a smile, taking his ID card from his pocket and handing it over.
The young man took the ID, checked the name, and after confirming Lin Liās identity, he handed over the keys to the black SUV beside him.
With the handover complete, the young man left. He had a busy day ahead, with many more cars to deliver to clients.
"Letās get in and get going!" Lin Li said to Su Yue. He opened the car door, slid into the driverās seat, and tossed the bag of snacks he was carrying into the back.
Su Yue settled into the passenger seat and, without any prompting from Lin Li this time, buckled her seatbelt on her own.
RUMBLE...
The engine started. Lin Li drove the SUV out of the hotel parking lot, turned onto the road, and headed toward the city center.
Their hotel was located by the sea, on the very outskirts of Qiong City. Their first destination for the dayāthe local history museumāwas in the city center, quite a distance away.
Su Yue had visited Qiong City before, so she had naturally been to the history museum already.
But since Lin Li had never been, she had included it in their itinerary for this trip, planning to accompany him on his visit.
The weather was perfect todayānot a cloud in the sky. Since it was still early, it wasnāt too hot yet. Lin Li opened the sunroof, and a refreshing breeze rushed into the car, feeling wonderful against their skin.
They cruised along the coastal highway with no traffic in sight.
When the car reached an intersection and turned toward the city center, a large stretch of forest came into view.
A straight highway cut through the woods, and on the other side lay the bustling downtown area.
Lin Li and Su Yue had thought it would only take them about twenty minutes to reach their first destination. As it turned out, things wouldnāt go as smoothly as they had imagined.
