Jiang Taixuan was an ordinary person.
He was born in a remote village.
This small mountain village wasnât large, with only a few dozen households.
His familyâs situation in the village wasnât affluent; in fact, they were quite poor. But fortunately, the villagers had very harmonious relationships.
Whenever someone faced hardship, the entire village would lend a helping hand.
Living in such an environment, Jiang Taixuan was very content.
According to the original course of his life, in a few days, his old father would take the eggs they had saved up for two months to Grandma Liuâs house on the east side of the village, hoping she could arrange a marriage for him.
If everything went well, Jiang Taixuan might get married by the end of the year.
By the end of next year, he might even become a father.
If nothing unexpected happened, he would follow in the footsteps of his ancestors, working from sunrise to sunset in this peaceful but unknown village until his last breath.
However, he never imagined that all this happiness would be shattered today.
An old man in red robes suddenly descended from the sky. He said nothing, simply standing in the heavens like a god indifferent to all living things.
No one saw him do anything, and no one heard him speak. All they could see was the old man stretching out a finger, and from it, a blood-red orb floated out.
As soon as the pearl appeared, it radiated a dazzling light that was brighter than the sun.
With each ray of light that fell, a familiar villager would die.
It wasnât long before the peaceful village was turned into a living hell.
Jiang Taixuan even saw his own parents fall slowly into a pool of blood.
He was helpless, unwilling, and furious.
He roared and cursed at the old man in the sky, but to the old man, it was no more than an ant provoking a godâutterly powerless.
Later, Jiang Taixuan picked up a stone and threw it at the old man. Laughably, the old man didnât move at all, and the stone simply dropped to the ground before even reaching him.
He had used all his strength but couldnât even touch the old manâs robe.
Finally, the old man gently waved his hand, and a tremendous force descended. At that moment, Jiang Taixuan thought he was surely dead.
Yet, an hour later, not only was he still alive, but he was also awake.
But after waking up, all he saw was a cold and brutal reality.
Drip...
At some point, the sky had grown cloudy, and thunder rumbled.
Not long after, heavy raindrops began to fall, creating a seemingly endless curtain of rain.
Jiang Taixuan knelt in the rain, as still as a cold, lifeless rock.
"My condolences."
At this moment, a gentle voice sounded beside him.
Jiang Taixuan turned his head slowly and first saw a pair of shoes standing in the rain, yet they remained untouched by a single drop of water. Looking up, he saw a white robe.
The manâs fingers were long and smooth like jade, and he wore several rings.
When Jiang Taixuan saw the ring on the manâs left middle finger, his pupils shrank, and his eyes turned blood red as hatred once again consumed his mind.
He would never forgetâthe red-robed man who killed all the villagers wore the same ring!
"Iâve already avenged your people."
The man, Li Xun, spoke slowly.
He raised his left hand as proof. "This ring can testify to that."
Hearing this, Jiang Taixuan froze, tears mixing with the rain streaming down his face. He raised his arm to wipe his face.
With a hoarse voice, he asked, "Are you an immortal?"
"You could think of it that way," Li Xun replied indifferently.
Having embarked on the path of cultivation, he was already quite different from ordinary people.
Though he wasnât capable of living forever like certain western comic characters or japanese manga characters, flying and escaping the mundane were within his reach.
"Dare I ask the immortal..."
Jiang Taixuanâs throat moved as he looked at his parentsâ bodies and then the ruined village. His Adamâs apple bobbed again as he desperately asked, "Is there a way in the immortal world to bring people back to life?"
"The âimmortal worldâ you speak of is really just the world of cultivation. As for bringing people back to life, there might be a way, or there might not be," Li Xun replied ambiguously.
With his current power, he had never heard of a way to bring people back from the dead, so he couldnât give Jiang Taixuan a definite answer.
He had heard of the technique of soul transfer and rebirth, but Jiang Taixuanâs parents were ordinary people, and the difficulty of bringing them back was extremely high.
The success rate was virtually zero.
"So, thereâs a chance?"
A flicker of hope appeared in Jiang Taixuanâs once dead eyes as he turned again to gaze deeply at his parentsâ bodies.
"Father, Mother, wait for me. I will do whatever it takes to bring you back!"
Saying this, Jiang Taixuan turned around in the muddy water and, with a loud thud, bowed deeply before Li Xun, his head sinking into the rain.
"I beg the immortal to accept me as your disciple!"
"Uh..."
Jiang Taixuanâs action left Li Xun at a loss.
To be honest, the moment he met Jiang Taixuan, he had scanned him with his spiritual sense. As for Jiang Taixuanâs potential, Li Xun could only describe it with four words:
"Once in a millennium."
Well... perhaps it would be better to say he was the worst talent in a thousand years.
Back in Panshi City, the little girl he met was judged to have mediocre talent, but even she was thousands of times stronger than Jiang Taixuan.
Li Xun originally thought that if Jiang Taixuanâs aptitude was passable, he wouldnât mind taking him to the Profound Sun Sect and letting him become an outer disciple.
But now it seems almost impossible.
With Jiang Taixuan aptitude, the Profound Sun Sect would likely reject him, not even bothering to make him a servant.
As for taking him on as his own disciple, that was even less likelyâLi Xun didnât even have a master yet!
"I cannot accept a disciple at this time, but... I can give you two cultivation techniques."
Li Xun smiled and, with a flip of his hand, two manuals appeared in his palm.
