All things must come to an end. Corpses littered the desolate plain, piled high as mountains.
The blood-streaked young chieftain gazed into the distance, tightening his grip on the spear in his hand.
âMr. Song, those you did not finish killing, I will finish for you!!â
The demon race crumbled in defeat, scattering in all directions.
Mu Cang charged alone into the demon realm. Countless wandering spirits fell under his spear. Across the vast demon realm, screams rang out without cease.
He was determined to kill his way from this desolate plain all the way to the Thirty-Six Caves.
And upon that desolate plain.
An exhausted warrior collapsed to the ground. His eyes fixed on the distance, he murmured, âWe wonâŠâ
âWe won!!â
Mortals, with their human bodies, had fought the demon race.
When hearts unite, men overcome Heaven!
On the city tower.
Du Aâniang, her wrist wrapped in cloth strips, took a long draught of wine. She gazed into the distance before pouring the entire jar of wine over the city wall.
âVictoryâŠâ
âYou stubborn axe-wielderâŠâ
Du Aâniang murmured. Her thoughts drifted away, and a faint smile touched her face, likely for that âKilling Talent.â
Among Green Mountain, the dozens of surviving cultivators watched the corpses being carried deep into the demon realm.
They looked at the vast expanse of demon race corpses strewn across the ground, astonishment clear in their eyes.
Someone spoke: âHe wonât come back until heâs killed his fill.â
âSong is gone. Mazi is gone. Old Scar is gone. If I were him⊠Iâd be even worse than he is.â
âSighâŠâ
The group fell silent for a moment. Then someone asked, âDo we still follow him?â
âLetâs wait here. Heâll come back.â
That day, the demon realm suffered annihilation.
One man, one spear; he slaughtered almost every demon within the realm. By the time he returned, he was drenched in blood, his body seething with baleful aura.
Seeing this, everyone present froze.
Mu Cang merely glanced at them. Without a word, he turned and walked towards the Divine Domain.
The group stared at his receding figure, momentarily dazed.
âToo similarâŠâ
Too much like that âKilling Talent.â
As if carved from the very same mold.
âŠ
When the curtains fell.
Chen Changsheng stood up and looked at the âYu Xuanâ beside him.
He said, âWell?â
âYu Xuanâ breathed out. âChen Changsheng, you are truly capableâŠâ
Chen Changsheng looked at him. âNot that I am capable, but that you are blinded by your pride. You underestimated these seemingly insignificant mortals.â
âYu Xuanâ shook his head. âIf you truly wish to protect this realm, then you had better never leave this place.â
Chen Changsheng replied, âI probably wonât stay more than a few years.â
âYu Xuanâ heard this and said, âIs that soâŠâ
Chen Changsheng continued, âIf such methods are required, I would rather forgo the âSutra of Rebirthâ entirely. Given that, why cling to it?â
âYu Xuanâ snorted coldly. âShe did it for you. But I am different. To me, you are nothing.â
âYou cannot kill me, Chen Changsheng.â
âNone can replace me. In this world between Heaven and Earth, one who lacks the desire for oblivion cannot truly exist. People who harbor desires⊠they can never become the Heavenly Dao. If I die, this world you guard will be destroyed even faster!â
âYu Xuanâ had long known this, thus his fearlessness. Otherwise, he would always hold some wariness towards that Taiqing Sword.
Chen Changsheng raised his hand, grasping the Taiqing Sword.
âYou speak correctly. I have yet to find a suitable candidate.â
Chen Changsheng gripped the Taiqing Sword and stepped forward. âHowever, you will not depart unscathed today.â
âYu Xuanâ raised an eyebrow, grasping the Shangqing Sword at his side.
In an instant, a wave of blood fiend energy surged around Chen Changsheng.
âYu Xuanâsâ brow lifted. âSo it was a bluff earlier.â
Chen Changsheng looked at him. âShall I strike, or will you surrender yourself?â
âYu Xuanâ stared back at Chen Changsheng, his sword held ready but unmoving.
The Taiqing Sword was indeed extraordinary. Success against it wasnât guaranteed.
âI can promise you three things,â âYu Xuanâ offered.
Chen Changsheng shook his head. âThat is not what I seek.â
âYu Xuanâ frowned.
Chen Changsheng then spoke. âTwo hundred and one strands of Heavenly Dao Power. I want ninety-eight strands!â
âYu Xuanâs expression hardened. He flung his sleeve. âYou dream!â
Chen Changsheng said calmly, âDo you truly have a choice?â
âYu Xuanâ gritted his teeth. Seeing Chen Changsheng grip his sword and step closer, he knew hesitation was no longer an option.
Fierce confrontation⊠could demand far more than this.
âYu Xuanâ lifted his hand. At his will, ninety-six strands of Heavenly Dao power coalesced within his palm.
He raised his hand, sending them forth. Chen Changsheng reached out, a golden light enveloping the near hundred strands of power, suspending them above his own palm.
âYu Xuanâ shot Chen Changsheng a cold glare and prepared to leave.
âNot done yet,â Chen Changsheng stopped him.
âYu Xuanâ glared back with open hatred. âWhat more do you want!?â
Chen Changsheng pointed at the sword in the otherâs hand.
âThat sword.â
âYu Xuanâ looked down at the Shangqing Sword gripped in his palm. After a momentâs hesitation, he handed it over.
Chen Changsheng took the sword and examined it briefly. âThis will suffice.â
âYu Xuanâ gave a final cold snort. His form began to fade, dissolving into the air before Chen Changsheng.
.
.
At Great Demon Peak.
The body of the Great Toad Demon lay still.
Tu Hu sat at the stone table nearby. He gazed far into the distance. In just a few short hours, the fortune of the demon race had plummeted, thin as dust.
Yet when he raised his head to look at the sky above, he saw no change at all.
Tu Hu paused, a question forming in his mind.
As he glanced aside, a sword streak flew towards him, landing nearby.
Tu Hu looked at him. âDid you fail?â
Chen Changsheng looked at the toad demonâs corpse. âAn unexpected difficulty arose. Iâm afraid remaking this Heaven and Earth is beyond me now.â
Tu Hu frowned. He paced back and forth. âIf we miss this chance, trouble lies ahead.â
âOpportunities will come.â
Chen Changsheng sighed softly. âWith the situation in Heaven and Earth stabilizing, we should see several peaceful years ahead. Thatâs a good thing.â
Tu Hu asked, âHow long until the next chanceâŠâ
âIt wonât be too long.â
Chen Changsheng continued, âI came to tell you⊠I must leave this place soon.â
âLeave?â Tu Hu stopped. Panic flickered in his eyes. âIf you leave⊠what becomes of me? With my strength alone, isnât Heaven and Earth playing us both like fools?â
âSet your mind at ease.â
Chen Changsheng said, âMy efforts werenât entirely in vain. From this day onward, this demon realm shall no longer be subject to the will of Heaven and Earth.â
